I awake. De'rax isn't in the bed any longer. How long did I sleep. I sit up and look around. There is a plate of food on the table along with a note. I wonder how De'rax figured out I could read. I quickly eat the meat and read the note.
I have gone to the observation room to speak to the men. Meet us there when you wake.
I nod my head and leave the room. As I get closer to the observation room I hear yelling. I walk into chaos.
De'rax is sitting against the window watching a couple of the men argue. I don't know how to stop it. I can't yell or whistle in this form. However I can bark or howl. Bark seems the most appropriate.
BARK!
Everyone freezes. They turn towards me. I glare at each of them in turn including De'rax. When I get to Fi'lo I stop.
"What the hell is going on here? I sleep for an extended period because I need it and you all go hay wire."
"Forgive us Kyra we were discussing why Grib would want you from lord General."
"I understand that. But it is still no reason to be yelling. I could hear you down the hall before I even came to the room."
"We are sorry."
"I don't want to hear your apologies Fi'lo I want to know what has happened."
"We received a threat message from Grib. He says he will do anything in his ability to make you his property. He determines that the lord General is not fit to own you. Now that he has seen your abilities he says you will be better used with him."
"He thinks I'm the property of De'rax? I thought it was made clear that I was his partner. If I choose to leave I could."
"I have to know something Kyra?"
"What is it Fi'lo?"
"Does Grib know you can shift?"
"No I don't believe so… why?"
"That would make sense on why he wants you so badly."
I freeze. I can't move. I had never thought that. I still wasn't sure if he knew or how he knew. I needed to speak to Caylee.
"De'rax I need to speak to Caylee."
"You figured something out?"
"Maybe. I am not sure if I am correct."
I follow him back to his room where he brings up the communication to his home. As soon as it is answered he requests Caylee.
"Can you leave so I can talk to her in private. "
"What do you need to say that you do not want me to hear?"
"It is part of my theory but I need to discuss it with her before I let everyone else know."
He thinks about my response for a minute then nods his head and leaves the room. I quickly lock the door and go back. Shifting so I can speak to her. I pull the blanket from the bed and wrap it around me.
" I needed to speak to you on a sensitive subject. The Grib that De'rax is partners with wants me. I have not figured out why but I have a theory."
"Your theory is that he knows you can shift."
"Yes. Makes me glad we are related. That is it but I am not sure how he would have found out. The only one besides you that knows is Fi'lo and I have been inside his head. He wouldn't have told."
"Since your speech is in the mind in that form I don't think anyone would have over heard. Wait…did you speak of it out loud?"
I stopped to think. I gasped. "Yes twice. I shifted the first time in front of Fi'lo. We spoke for a bit. The door to the observation room was locked though. The second time was when De'rax stormed out. Fi'lo came into comfort me after De'rax laughed at me."
Caylee looked affronted. "Why did he laugh at you?"
"I wore his tunic when I talked to Fi'lo. He smelled me on it and flipped out for some reason. I tried to convince him it was me that wore it and he laughed. Speaking of the flip out do you know why?"
"Hmm I don't as of yet. I am still reading up on the agrithian people. If you want I can look up their biology and let you know what I find."
"Please that would be helpful. But I still need to tackle who would have told Grib."
"Well since De'rax room is the most secure than I would start at the observation room. Could anybody have been hiding?"
"No I would have smelled and heard them. There has to have been another way."
"That has to be it but then the question is how and who. Can you talk this over with De'rax?"
I sigh. "No remember he thinks my shift is a joke."
"Shift in front of him. Show him."
"I had thought of that. Not sure what will happen. Can you find out about his flip out first then I will try the shift?"
"Yes I will look as soon as we hang up. Then I will let you know. I wonder if I can mind speak to you this far away. If I can it will save us with privacy."
I laugh at her face. She looks at me and starts to laugh as well. "You can try when you find the information. If it doesn't work call me. I may not be able to talk to De'rax yet but I can try Fi'lo."
"Good idea try him. Love you Kyra."
"Love you to. Will see you soon."
"Right. Caylee over and out."
I laugh again as she winks and disconnects.
