The next day was indeed busy. De'rax had me continue working with Griffin and Fi'lo on our connection. Griffin seemed a little put out that he wasn't the one going to the surface but I told him we could still talk. That helped brighten his smile a little.
I had to work more with Fi'lo because he was going to be on planet. I couldn't get a word in edge wise he was so excited he kept jabbering. I had to laugh.
"What is so funny Kyra?"
Oh I forgot that when I wasn't paying attention De'rax could hear me. "Fi'lo has been talking non stop to me since we started. Now I'm all for working on our bond but this is crazy ridiculous."
I heard De'rax laugh as he walks into the room. "Fi'lo my boy you have got to give Kyra a chance to respond to you. The bond has to be strong both ways."
Fi'lo stops mid sentence and looks up at De'rax. His face turns a darker shade of gold as he blushes. "Sorry. I was just so excited I did not realize that she had not had a chance to speak."
De'rax laughs some more. "It is okay. I am glad you are excited about this. However it is a bridge between minds it needs communication for it to work."
Fi'lo nods at him and you can see the look of determination come across his face. "Okay I am ready Kyra. Tell me anything you want."
I went from looking at De'rax laughing face to Fi'lo determined one. I shook my head at the two. I haven't figured out who acts like the bigger kid De'rax or Fi'lo.
"Alright Fi'lo. If I tell you something you have to promise me to never repeat it to anyone ever."
"I promise" He said crossing his heart.
"I am not a wolf."
His eyes grow wide and before he realizes what he is doing he says out loud. "What?"
De'rax still in the room turns and says. "Wait what? What is your conversation about?"
Fi'lo looks over at De'rax and freezes. "Oops I just said that out loud?"
I nodded. De'rax is now looking at the two of us suspiciously. "Quick think of a reply."
"Why do I have to?"
"Because your the one that got us in this predicament."
"Oh uh I did not hear what she said and was asking her to repeat it."
"You did not hear her? Fi'lo this is why you are conversing with her."
"It is not that I did not hear her it is that I was not listening. I was in my own thoughts."
De'rax nods. "Very well I understand. But try to pay attention from now on. I am going back to the bridge to monitor our request to arrive on planet." He waved his hand at us in a "carry on motion" as he left.
"That was hell."
Fi'lo looks back and me with a curiousity killed the cat look. "Did I hear you correctly?"
"Yes you did."
"How is that possible you are a wolf right in front of me?"
"This is not my original form. I'm a human shifter."
His eyes grow wide as he hears my explanation of events leading up to this moment. "Can I see your true form?"
I nod. "Yes but I dont have any clothes to put on after."
He stands quickly. "Wait here I will fetch one of my tunics." Then he stops at the door and rethinks that. "Better still I will bring you one of De'rax tunics." With a emphatic nod he rushs out.
He is back a few minutes later with a large tunic. He lays it down in front of me and the smell of leather, pine and sunshine reaches my nose. I take a deep breath and hold in the scents. I release and slowly relax my mind. Thinking of my human form I slowly shift. Pulling the tunic over my head it goes to my knees.
"You can turn around now."
Fi'lo turns and gasps. "You ARE human." He stares as if transfixed. "I thought you were pretty as a wolf but your beautiful."
I smile. "Thank you. Your the first person I have told."
"But not the first to know?"
"No Caylee knows because she is my cousin. No one else knows that either. Now I want you to never tell. This is our secret."
He covers his mouth with his hand marking his silence. "I will not tell. But does that mean that Caylee is like you? I think it is exciting about you being able to change forms."
"Not change, shift. I can't shift to anything other than my wolf. Yes she is like me she can shift to a wolf as well. Hers is a different color than mine though. "
"Ah okay shift I got it. Why have you not told De'rax?"
"I don't know. I have been this way since he purchased my cousin and I. I stayed this way to protect her but now I don't know why I haven't told him. Just haven't found the right time or way."
"You might want to find that out and soon. The longer you wait the angrier he will be you did not tell him."
I nod. I agreed with him but I still didn't know how to say it. Like hey De'rax I'm not a wolf, or shift in front of him and say hi.
