Chapter 8 - 8 Tailors n Tomfoolery

Most of the sketches were simple, for things such as hoodies and tracksuits as well as some bags. There was sketches of one dress, three skirts, twelve sets of pants, two tracksuits, and fifteen shirts. It was obvious Bai Chen was ecstatic about getting new clothes and was by no means allowing any excuse as to why she would be forced to wear one of those tacky dresses again in her life.

She put her measurements on all of the pages to ensure the man would get the right sizes. It was rather bizarre looking at the measurements of a body that was not her own and imagining herself wearing the clothing. She could only think about how it would look on her previous body, not on this one.

He looked at the designs with an eyebrow raised. He had never seen fashion like it before and was both concerning and intriguing. Who would come up with such bizarre clothing?

He flipped through each of the pieces before asking, "I can do these designs however only for a hefty sum, and they won't be finished until I complete the rest of my work, is that okay?"

"Of course, if you have any issues, please contact the manor on the hill." Bai Chen replied, at ease with the fact that she would never have to wear these d*mned dresses again.

The man hurried back into his workshop, leaving Bai Chen in the store front with her maid and the clerk. Bai Chen thought to herself that since she would never be able to remember his name, she would just call him Betsy instead from now on.

Since Betsy left, she too shall prepare to leave. Taking the strapless dress she saw earlier, Bai Chen left the store as her maid paid for it.

Bai Chen stood outside of the carriage waiting for her maid as she paid. Stuck in thought she wondered if since she renamed Betsy she should give the maid a nickname too.

Bai Chen was stuck.

Maybe a rapper name? But what like? Lil something? Lil is a cute first name, right? At this point Bai Chen wished she had her phone to look up some random name generators.

Lil Hoody?

A$AP Stony?

Skittles?

She shook her head. None of them seemed good. Hearing a voice behind her, Bai Chen turned around and saw that her maid had finally walked out. Instead of making a name up out of the blue, wouldn't it be best to ask the person in hand?

"Hey, do you want a name? It can be anything. What do you want me to call you?" She asked.

The maid looked at Bai Chen as stone-faced as ever. "Miss, please call me whatever feels natural?"

"Then..... Draine the Rock Swanson? hmmmm no." Bai Chen really wanted to give this girl cool name. Although she started looking for names similar to people she idolised, the girl in front of her really didn't suit them. In the end, Bai Chen left the idea for another time. She would be able to come up with a name sometime.

After considering her choices for less than a split second, Bai Chen decided not to use the carriage. In her eyes there was only one option since there was no way she would get into a carriage. After dumping her dress into the carriage, Bai Chen grabbed a ribbon and tied her hair as well as she could by herself. The fact that there was no hair ties in this world was extremely disappointing and sad for Bai Chen. And it showed in her terrible attempt at putting her hair up with a ribbon. When she came back to Ben's Tailoring Service, Bai Chen knew she would have to ask him to make some scrunchies, or in fact, maybe she could make her own?

It clicked in Bai Chen's head. She was a design student, and although scrunchies were one of the most basic things you could ever make it doesn't mean they weren't popular and wouldn't go with her outfits. Plus, if she had a sewing machine at home it meant she wouldn't need to go to Betsy's 24/7 to get new clothes even though she was now a rich kid and totally could.

Bai Chen had a plan. Dragging her maid along with her, Bai Chen asked with excitement for the closest shop she could buy a sewing machine and material. Now she could make her clothes from home.

Walking around the streets was surreal. Everyone was bustling around so happily with no awareness that this game world was just a simulation with no meaning. It was a chaotic inescapable thought.

Walking from hop to shop with her maid, Bai Chen felt a little lonely. This girl acted emotionlessly. All she could hope was that her maid was not configured by the game developers to be emotionless. Then she may make a friend. In hope of getting her maid to show off more about herself, Bai Chen asked, "So did you never have a name?" She craned her neck backwards to look at the maid in hopes of a non-automated reply.

Bai Chen was left with an affirmative response. "Yes." Maybe there was more to this maid then what she previously thought.

Bai Chen hummed in affirmation. Her maid didn't bother to say her previous name so she didn't bother to pry. All information would be told in due time.

"So what names do you like?" Bai Chen slowed down to walk beside the girl. They didn't look uncommon, just two maids walking together through a marketplace instead of one behind the other.

The maid paused and looked over at Bai Chen. It was the first time in a long time that someone asked her a question about herself and cared about the response. Bai Chen looked at her patiently. "I never really thought about it," She answered softly.

Bai Chen could all but hope that she was on a path to tearing down the walls her maid had made for herself.
