Flipping the letter open, Bai Chen could not help but flinch at the stench that cam from the card. It was as though it was doused in cologne. In fact... Was it? Holding the card, she realised it was very dense. Moving her fingers up the card, in fact, there was a part that was still damp... and looking to the bottom she realised a bit had molded.
Gross!!!
She wanted to throw the card away immediately while her maid just watched in curiosity. Her maid had no clue what her Miss was doing. It was tradition to scent a card before sending it. Obviously this case was overdone but it may have been the person's first time writing?
Trying to ignore the pungent smell of Cologne, Bai Chen began reading,
"To my dear honeypot,
I miss you oh so dearly and cannot wait for your return upon the high school entrance ceremony. I can only reminisce of our previous meetings. So many things I miss about you;
your smile,
your kindness,
your beautiful blonde hair,
that's all I can think of. either way, I miss you and cannot wait until you come back to the capital.
sincerely,
the prince"
YIKES.
Bai Chen regretted reading it. Jumping out of her bed, she ran to her door while holding the card as far away from herself as humanly possible. Her maid looked at her, wondering what she was going to do. Finding a nearby cleaning cart, Bai Chen dunked the card into it's bin and ran away in terror.
She still had to return to the capital.
SH*T!
During her outing today she was too groggy from the carriage rides to remember that she still had to return for high school. She tried to think of a way to get out of it.
"Maybe I don't have to go. I could just live life peacefully here! There's a way to get out of it, right? Right?!" She was too optimistic.
Her maid got up off the bed and walked to the door, finding her miss pacing around in circles.
"Miss."
"Eh?"
"You left the door open."
"Oh... Alright."
Bai Chen walked glumly back in and sat on her bed only after washing her hands of that putrid smell. Her maid sat back down too.
She turned to the girl, "Are you really sure there's no name you have a liking to? Anything at all?"
"No, Miss."
"Are you really sure?"
"Yes. Miss."
"Oh."
....
.....
...
The two sat in silence.
"Are you really really sure? Like really really?"
"Yes Miss."
"Okay. Let me think about it then."
Fortunately this topic got Bai Chen's mind off the capital as she said good night to her maid and went to bed.
In bed, she tossed and turned.
Thinking of how she was going to name her maid, Bai Chen got lost in thought...
'Is this what it's like to be a mother? Is she my child now. Mum's name their kids so I guess I am now an adoptive parent."
No, Bai Chen, you're not.
But who would guess, either way she would now treat the maid as one of her own, like her child. Even though the maid was at least four years older than her at current. If she was still in her own body, they would probably be around the same age so where did the child idea come from?
Our protagonist's mind is one I have stopped questioning.
