Once she was done playing, Bai Chen began exploring her new home. The door left of the couches led to a large wardrobe. It was massive, at least fifty metres in length. Each rack of clothing was filled with with clothes, all pastel in colour. Bai Chen was impressed yet also very disappointed. Why was everything pastel! In her previous life Bai Chen almost only ever wore black and white, with a few splashes of neon. And dresses? She had only ever worn one for school, which if you didn't think she wore bike pants underneath it, you were sorely mistaken. Three lines ran down her forehead.
It was a beautifully expansive wardrobe, anyone would agree, but the clothing inside was a different thing for Bai Chen. In fact, all the clothes looked the same to her, the same colors, the same material, the same garment... Ugh. Bai Chen felt queasy. Living a life in this sort of clothing... impossible!
She scurried down the sides of the wardrobe, narrowly missing hitting her body on the centre storage drawer. Hurrying down the sides, Bai Chen pulled at each piece of clothing, pulling at each piece in search for a rare, non existent black tee. Her search was to no avail, the only dark clothing Lily owned was mourning attire and as such still a black dress. Bai Chen looked at the dress disappointingly, after searching multiple times there was still no luck of anything nicer. This dressy was made of black lace with an intricate design on the chest. The long sleeves were thin with a pattern at their ends.
Bai Chen looked at the dress wondering if she would be able to fit in it before remembering that she was in a new petite body. It had been a few days and it was obvious Bai Chen still couldn't get used to this body of hers. Although she managed to flee from those zombie like boys in the capital, that was merely a fight or flight response. Her daily life was by no means consistent with the level of fitness that day. Each day Bai Chen noticed the difference of her strength previously VS as "Lily". If she even carried something of five to ten kilograms this girl may be unable to carry it. As a person from a less weak body, Bai Chen thought it must be really difficult to maintain this miniscule level of strength. Lily must have never had to carry her own school bag, or a litre of milk, or even a water bottle. Heck! Bai Chen's body must be like goku in front of this girl! She was so weak.
Snapping out of it, Bai Chen picked herself up from her moping state on the floor and asked her maid to leave the wardrobe. Each time she would do this the maid with her, previously a different one on her journey to the capital, would look over concerningly as it was obvious this was not one of the previous Lily's abilities. This one unexpectedly didn't however and just bowed and excused herself. She then put the dress on her tiny, almost sickly thin figure and walked to the mirror on her side.
Yuck...
As a previously fashion savvy teen, Bai Chen was appalled at the clothes she was wearing. It was filth. The dress did not accnetuate any of her body and its hem hit the ground. She looked like a door. Sure, Bai Chen didn't expect funeral wear to be breath taking, but this was too much!
She hurriedly removed the dress, it pooling at her feet as Bai Chen put on a new dress which was somehow a little less unappealing to her. Then, scurrying out of the room she rushed to the maid by the door. Through Bai Chen shaking her shoulders the maid was still more or less despondent. Replying after a second of shaking, "Yess, Miss?" As though she was just called. Bai Chen replied through a shaky voice, "Do I own any black clothes!?" She was too concerned about the clothing dilemma to realise that she was being rude to the maid. The maid still replied absently, "Yes, Miss."
Bai Chen stopped shaking the girl, instead lightly removing her grip and falling to the floor in relief. Apparently this was a very important thing to her, especially as a design student back in her previous life.
Yes...
Yes!
YES!!!
"Where please?" Bai Chen ran back into the wardrobe, the maid following her in as she ran down the aisles once again. Every few seconds she would stop, looking hopefully at the maid once again. After a few seconds the maid finally walked over to the end of the wardrobe. Bai Chen looked on in suspense. Unexpectedly, instead of the clothes to the side, the maid bent to the floor. Bai Chen's face sunk, and so did her whole body as she fell to the floor.
The maid picked up the dress and handed it to her with ease. "Here you are, Miss."
The lace draped loosely off her two hands which were still cupped, as if begging for water, her life source. But it was gone, her hope had diminished completely. Like a shriveled balloon, Bai Chen deflated to the floor.
It was a sorry sight. Her tears ran down her face directly onto the carpeted floor. Bai Chen had always hated carpeted floor, it was such a pain to clean. Her mood was worsening by the minute.
"...Stupid dress.
...Stupid world
....Stupid game." It was obvious that a person wouldn't be able to easily adapt to reincarnating, and Bai Chen had finally snapped. The culture differences were one thing that no one would be able to combat. Games didn't even exist here! It was like a weird mix of fifties fashion and the the Victorian era with a little bit of modernness to let a player familiarize themself with it.
She had to keep reminding herself that this was indeed just a game. She wouldn't be here forever, right? Bai Chen felt a chill run down her spine. The thought of staying here forever stunted her. There was so much she missed about her previous world. Not even mentioning the cultural change, what about her friends and family?
