Chapter 8 - The Damned Race and The Bet

Andi was appalled! She was disgusted of herself for being nice to the jerk who disrespected her this morning. She is pretty alright, but she does not know what kind of reaction her face showed when he blurted about the race. All this time. All the minutes, the effort, the talking, the kindness he showered upon him. This is what she got. She does not care if she looked mad or ugly. But the beast inside her is growling and wanted to scratch his beautiful blue eyes out and destroy that handsome face.

"Are you okay?" he asked.

How can you ask that? Are you stupid? I am planning on how to murder you. She cleared her throat and her mind, so she does not lose her cool. They have only met for a few hours and only her close friends knew how ugly she can get when she's mad. Now, where are they when she needed them most? Useless friends! I am transforming and you're nowhere to be found.

"Ah uhm.. yeah, of course. I just remembered something bad." She lied. "You were saying?"

"Oh, are you sure you're okay? Do you need something? Like going to the clinic?" Concern is evident in his face. "Maybe, there's something wrong in your stomach?" He questioned like he's a friend.

How dare you toy with me. Don't you know the saying, first impression last? I will forever remember you as a jerk, idiot. And there's nothing wrong with my stomach but there's something wrong in my brain.

"Yes, I'm okay. Now, you were saying?" She almost gritted her teeth. Why couldn't he just finish what he is saying. If I still stay here, I might really turn into a vampire and suck all his blood. She smiled at him to show that she's really fine. Come on, speak! I am running out of patience, human!

"Oh yeah, about the race… earlier. That was me. In the blue sportscar. Did you recognize me?"

"Honestly, no. I didn't clearly saw the driver's face because of the cap. And if I remember it clearly, he's also wearing black shirt and leather jacket I suppose." When she realized what she had just said, her eyes opened wide because yes! He is wearing those except for the cap!

"It's really you." She whispered to herself but loud enough for him to hear.

"Yep. And you agreed to be my girlfriend once you lose." And right there her eyes shot back at him in surprised.

"What the hell did you just say?" Uh-oh. She really can't control it anymore.

"At the stoplight, before we raced, I asked you to be my girlfriend once you lose and you nodded or thumbs up in agreement."

She observed him and looked like he's telling the truth. He is also somewhat shy as she noticed his hand scratching the back of his head again. What shall I do?

"Umm. Zach, I'm sorry. But I didn't agree to that. Actually, I did not hear you clearly, so I just agreed assuming it was just about the race or something." Of course, she won't agree to that bull. Its harder to win her heart than the lottery. When she was talking she saw a hint of sadness or disappointment in his face.

"Oh. I'm sorry. I should've discussed it with you first and in person. Face to face I mean to make it clear. But I was so shy to speak with you earlier. And I tried so hard in the cafeteria and in the locker room but things happened so fast and then you were mad, so I didn't get a chance to talk with you…" He trailed off at the last part. Is he really sad? Oh, come on. One look and everyone knows you're a playboy.

"Yeah. You should have talked to me frankly so you wouldn't have those thoughts. If I had known I wouldn't have agreed to it. I mean, I don't do those kinds of bets. And frankly speaking, I was mad with you the entire time because you cheated and now, I learned that you cheated because of the bet? That's just ridiculous." She crossed her arms in front of her.

"I'm sorry you just reminded me of the incident that caused my crankiness." And she saw he was hurt. Yeah, boy. Feel that.

"I cheated? When? I can't remember. I raced fairly, that's what I remembered." His eyebrows furrowed as if trying to remember what he did wrong to irritate me.

"Yes, we were racing just fine remember. And then there was the second stoplight which made me panic because I thought I wasn't going to make it, but I did stop on time. She got mad again. She even pointed her finger on his face, "And you! You just went past me! You went past the signal! You freaking cheater!" He was just staring at her. Realizing that the reason she's like that to him because he cheated.

"I'm sorry Andi. But I didn't notice the stoplight, I swear! Please, believe me." His shoulders dropped.

"Why should I believe you? The stoplight was there. It was always there. How come, you wouldn't notice? What are you blind?" Yep. She lost her cool.

"I promise. I didn't really notice it. Come on. I'm new here. I haven't been around that much to memorize everything." His voice pleading. Is he telling the truth?

"I don't know what you're up to. But that bet is invalid." She looked at him. Why does she felt bad for making him sad? As if, it's my fault. They were silent as if both don't know what to say.
