Chapter 28 - Chapter 20.1: The Results

Grade 12 was the toughest year for Sarah, Aiden, Mavis, and Pauline. They stopped conversing with one another after Olivia left the school. Vincent got back together with his ex-girlfriend and broke Sarah's heart. The time came when all students had to get the results for their final exams. Since Sarah was distracted with her love life, she wasn't confident about it. Dr. DK returned to homeroom 12 B with his bundle of answer sheets, and said, "There are only ten students in this class who scored above 90% in their exam! The rest of your performances are extremely miserable. And I mean it! Other than these ten students, everyone scored less than 70%! I am ashamed of you!" After a few minutes, Dr. DK began distributing the answer sheets and announcing the best results amongst them. He called out, "Aiden Zhou!" He approached the teacher with nervousness until Dr. DK cracked into a smile and said, "Congratulations, young man! You scored the highest mark in the class, a 99.9 percent! You've made me proud! Well done!"

Aiden grinned with happiness for the first time since Olivia left. Then Dr. DK called out, "Pauline Dela D'cruz! Excellent job! You've scored the second-highest in class with 97.5%!". After a few minutes, he summoned, "Mavis Granzreich! I can see that you've worked hard to come in the top ten and scored 91%. Well done! But still, I don't like your attitude very much." After calling out Mavis, Dr. DK announced, "These are the top ten students, now let's move on to the embarrassing ones." Sarah's heart sank under the ocean. She was devastated about the fact that she wasn't among the top ten students who scored above 90%.

After distributing several papers, Dr. DK finally called out Sarah's name. Sarah was shivering with nervousness. Dr. DK looked at the mark, let out a gasp and said, "Oh My God Sarah! I cannot believe this! You barely passed you 12th grade! You were a bright student! Seriously!? You scored 50% in your final exams! I'm sorry, Sarah, but I must have a word with your parents this evening." Sarah was devastated by what had happened. But this time, there was no one to console her. She was all alone. Of course, she had to be! She was being punished for choosing the wrong path.
