Chapter 30 - Chapter 20.3: Welcome To Charlottetown Rural High!

Sarah was pacing anxiously up and down at the school parking lot, waiting for Aiden, Mavis, and Pauline to show up. She didn't expect them there, but she could still hope. As the clock struck six, Sarah noticed three figures approaching her from a distance. It was none other than Aiden, Mavis, and Pauline. Sarah asked with surprise, "You guys came?" The three of them exchanged glances, and Aiden said, "We're still mad at you, but we nevertheless came because all of us have something to say." And the four of them departed to Charlottetown Rural High.

*FLASHBACK*

Olivia's parents punished her for her behavior at school, causing her expulsion. But with time, they understood that her heart was in the right place and eventually forgave her. Olivia still faced the consequences for her actions. She had to go to a counselor for months until she learned how to control her anger. Her parents didn't even speak to her for several months. Later her parents decided to put her in Charlottetown Rural High school where the majority of students are Indians. As there goes a very well-known saying, "Time's the greatest healer." Eventually, everything turned out to be healthy as things were before. Olivia was delighted to be friends with people of her kind. She would often remember her friends from Colonel gray. But her anger towards Sarah got the best of her. She tore all the notes, books, and gifts that commemorated their memories together and discarded everything in the garbage.

At her first day, she learned that even Samar was a student of Charlottetown Rural High. Samar was shocked to see her there, but he understood everything after Olivia shared the details of her expulsion. After joining Rural High, Samar and Olivia officially got back together with their relationship even stronger than before. At the grade twelve final exams, both of them topped the grade with the same marks. All the students were excited and couldn't wait for the graduation ceremony.

*FLASHBACK ENDS*

The four of them sneaked from the back entrance to the institution and arrived at the gym where the ceremony was taking place. They changed into their formal outfits to match with their surroundings and hid behind an empty counter and witnessed the event. The principal of the institution stepped on his stage and took his place at the podium. He began his speech about the history and pride of the school. Mavis whispered from behind the counter, "Where is Olivia? How long do we have to bear this?" Pauline covered her mouth and asked her to remain silent. Then the principal announced, "So now we will now on to the valedictorian of the year." Sarah scoffs, "Finally!"

The principal continued, "For the first time, in the history of Charlottetown Rural High School, there are two valedictorians of the year. Please give a big round of applause for Olivia Madhavan and Samar Anand! I never speculated that the valedictorians of the semester would also turn out to be an excellent illustration of an ideal couple." Sarah and Aiden gave out a huge gasp, but before they could cause a further commotion, Mavis and Pauline covered their jaws. The principal announced, "Now, either Samar or Olivia will present a speech on behalf of both of them." Samar gave Olivia a knowing look and gestured her to appear at the student podium. Olivia took a deep breath and spoke out, "I would like to congratulate each one of you for performing well up to the grade requirements. We all have the potential to achieve various tasks in diverse fields of interests. All of us have what it takes to fulfill our dreams, no matter how arduous that might be. There goes a very well-known saying, "There is always a hand behind a person's success." I have three hands behind my success today, and they are my parents who have given me their love and support for everything I do and for everything that I accomplish. And the third hand is Samar Anand, my boyfriend. He supported me during a time when I had no one by my side." Samar smiles with tears in his eyes. Olivia glances at him, and continued her speech to the audience, "We have conquered one of the biggest challenges of our lives, and that is high school. We have proved that we're ready for what comes next. Today we're all here, and tomorrow we will spread around various parts of the world. We need to promise ourselves that no matter how successful we become in life, we will never forget where we started. We will make our institution proud!" The crowd cheers loudly with excitement and motivation.

The principle steps on the podium and declares, "Students, now it's time to party!" As the DJ commences an item song with all students dancing, Sarah, Aiden, Mavis, and Pauline sneak out behind the empty counter and merge into the crowd to find Olivia and talk to her. After the song ended, Sarah succeeded to locate Olivia in the mob of students. Olivia noticed Sarah standing beside her with tears in her eyes. Sarah burst into tears, saying, "I extremely sorry, Olivia! I should've listened to you! Please forgive me!" Olivia was at the verge of getting sentimental, but she composed herself and asked with attitude, "Who are you? Are you a new student? The administration office isn't here." Sarah continues to cry, and she shakes Olivia with her hands, saying, "I know I made a huge mistake! I know that you're somewhere in there! Where did you go?" Olivia loses his temper, and she raises her hand to slap Sarah but suddenly stops midway. Olivia's eyes fill with tears, and memories that she had in Queen Charlotte and Colonel Gray started to wander in her mind. But she also remembers that she got an expulsion because of Sarah. She composes herself and says, "Sorry, but I don't know who you are." She runs away from that area and straight bumps into Aiden. Both of them felt a certain awkwardness between them.

Aiden broke the silence by yelling angrily with tears in his eyes, "Why didn't you tell me?! Why did you leave me like that, huh?! ANSWER ME!!!!" Olivia stood there speechless, and Aiden pulled her into a tight embrace. Aiden added, "Don't ever leave me like that!" Oliva's voice got stuck in her throat. After a long moment, she pulled away nervously, and blurted out, "I'm leaving for Oxford TOMORROW!" Aiden's eyes widened with shock and anger. He composed himself and replied, "Wow! Umm... their acceptance rate is remarkably low. Congratulations and good luck, Olivia. I will m--" Aiden stops mid-sentence. His rage kicked in like the flames of enraging fury. He continues in an angry tone, "Great! You're good at nothing but leaving the people who love you! Just push and go away, right? It's straightforward for b****** like you to do that! Who do you think you are, you a******" Olivia's eyes widened with shock, and she left without a word.

Pauline found Aiden and asked, "Did you find Olivia?" Aiden replied with anger, "Olivia went to hell!" and stormed off the school premises. Mavis came out from behind the counter nearby. Pauline scoffs, "Please tell me that you weren't spying on Aiden again!" Mavis gave an evil smile of agreement and shared the details of what happened between Aiden and Olivia. After a few minutes, Sarah found Mavis and Pauline with her head hanging with depression. She spilled out what happened between Olivia and her. Pauline responds, "I've been quiet for a long time. Now, it's my turn to speak. I've been observing all of you, the moment we stepped into Colonel Gray. Sarah, you came here with everything you accomplished, and you're leaving with a big dent. Everything you had, has been snatched away because you chose the wrong path. You lost your self-esteem, your dignity, Olivia, Aiden, and ME!" Mavis added, "What you did was wrong, Sarah! You didn't even tell Aiden the truth! I don't know what the hell Vincent did to you! You've lost everything you valued before, including me too!" Both of them storm off the school grounds leaving Sarah alone. She had nothing. Everything she cherished was lost because of her decisions. "Decision-making is a lifepath building."
