Chapter 5 - Countdown to Doomsday

I wonder whether Alex would make it up to the rooftop before the beginning of the end. For whatever reason that causes him to be late, it should still be fine, as there is a good delay between the spawning and offensive of the first wave once the Zoning happens.

Even if Alex doesn't make it here in time, he should still be able to defend himself against the monsters of the first wave with the handguns that I have told him to purchase.

Those monsters are not hard to kill. They are just too numerous for anyone to fight them head on and remain unscathed. That is why it is better to find a good vantage point and make use of a sniper rifle.

Unfortunately, obtaining a sniper rifle right now is a bit difficult. Therefore, I settle for handguns. Sure, automatic assault rifles are better, but Alex has no mean of concealing those on his person. I can via my Inventory, but I want time alone to myself to test a few things.

Used handguns should cost about $100 to $150. I can purchase them directly from the Shop if I actually have enough GP. I have to sell one first for it to be purchasable, however.

Since I do not have access to the Shop Interface or my Status Window, I have to keep track of my Gold Points (GP) manually. I should have exactly 31GP for all the trashes I have sold.

Not quite enough to buy anything useful from the Shop, but any amount helps in the long run.

I check the time on the huge clock in front of the school, finding there is only a handful of seconds left until the Zoning event. I count every second until –

Nothing happens.

I am surprised for a second. Perhaps I have misremembered the exact time and date. No. I have never forgotten that day. The day when all hell broke loose. Then perhaps I have forgotten the exact time.

Thus, I wait and wait and wait.

5 minutes.

10 minutes.

15 minutes.

"Shit. I almost got caught by her," Alex calls out and closes the door to the rooftop behind him. "Those asses try to cheat me too."

16 minutes.

I sigh and eye Alex. It seems that something is amiss, and I am actually glad. Perhaps the world would not gone to shit today. Or tomorrow. Or the next day. Perhaps my slaying of the Ruler of the Dead has changed the event of the past.

It is the only Ruler I have managed to kill thus far, and it cost me almost everything I have. To kill them all, I will require more than myself and my possessions. It is not the reason that I have returned to the past to save those that I have lost, but it is still a worthy cause.

"You have the guns?" I request, and Alex reluctantly hands me the weapon in a paper bag. Neither are loaded since Alex isn't stupid to hand me a loaded weapon, but that does not matter.

One of the guns vanishes within the bag, and I hand the bag back to Alex, wowing him.
