*Flashback*
*CLINK*. There was a sound of a small metal object hitting the hard concrete below. Wren smirked and turned to face Josai, now that her hands were free she could stand a chance, "So tell me again how am I going to DIE here Josai? Now that my hands are free were are evenly match" *WHACK!* Josai was furious and lifted a wooden bat above his head, striking down to injure Wren.
At the same moment, Wren moved her arms from near her sides to quickly protect her head. Josai hit down with so much force than Wren's partially limp arms took the brunt of impact but they still collided with her face with enough force to cause a dull headache. Josai was astonished that she could move that quickly even after being restrained for so long, but he didn't give her anytime to recoup. He continued to strike at her with the wooden bat, yet each time Wren blocked the attacks. *WHACK! THUD! CLANK!* With Josai's last attack Wren was able to swat the bat out of his hands causing for a loud clank of the bat hitting the floor. "Enough Josai *pant pant* Why are you doing this? *pant* What is the real reason..." Wren trailed off as she continued to try and catch her breath. Josai was also panting heavily near by. 'Damnit, there's no way I can beat her. Even with her body in an unfavorable position,' Josai thought to himself.
Throughout the attacks, Wren was still restrained from her waste down, to a long medical table, resembling a patient being restrained in a hospital bed. "J-Josai..." Josai looked up towards Wren. He slowly put his head back down then stood up from his spot near Wren then walked over to the bat and picked it up. He looked it over and noticed there was blood on the end of the bat, but also in the area that he was holding. He then looked over to Wren's arms and saw that the skin was already raised slightly, turning purple, and had spots that were bleeding from the force of the impact.
Josai raised the bat once more to strike her, but this time he stood within her reach. Wren looked up at him, 'I will make it out of here alive!' She continued to say this to herself as motivation. 'If I could just-' without waiting another second, Josai leaned slightly forward and went to hit Wren near the torso area. Not missing the opportunity, Wren made contact with her first and middle finger, directly to his temple. Josai immediately froze in place, the bat still hovering around his head. Wren then closed her eyes and entered his mind.
"Josai? Josai, where are you?" Wren looked around and tried to figure out where exactly she was. 'This place...it looks-wait are we at the temple?!' Wren was surprised, then she saw a young boy come out from behind a big wooden door. "Lady Wren, I'm glad you were able to reach me. Sorry for my appearance, they did this so I would be less likely to cause trouble." The teenage boy was steadily walking towards Wren, "It's me, Josai. I'm also sorry for hitting you earlier, I really didn't want too, just like at the hospital, but I didn't have a choice." Wren was shocked but walked towards Josai. "What is this about? You mention Diego, you beat me, you mess with my memories-" Teenage Josai shook his head. "Follow me deeper into my memories. You will get some answers but not all that you desire. Once they realize I've helped you, it will be the end for me. It's the lovely life of an assassin after all," Teenage Josai chuckled sadly.
Wren followed him inside the temple. There was less foliage around, which meant it was sometime before the war was over. "Elder, what are we to do with this boy? He knows too much, his entire family has to much knowledge on the subject. We need to eliminate them before our plans are ruined." Wren could hear a man talking and when they finally came into view, she immediately recognized the boy to whom they were referring. 'Diego,' She noticed that his hands and feet tied to prevent his escape, and he also had a blind fold over his eyes. Wren did not recognize the man nearest Diego, but she recognized his uniform. He was a part of the military that started the war on the island. She looked to the other direction and noticed their previous leader Elder Takeda, was sitting on a throne, looking down towards the man and Diego.
"Do not worry, for the woman has arranged an incident. She intends to recruit the Traveler to handle the matter of her two young children and her betrothed. Everything will continue according to the plan we previously discussed. Be patient Soldier, for they will be disposed of very shortly." Wren silently looked on in horror, "...I'm sorry Wren. I know we were once friends, but I let me emotions get the better of me and was soon trapped within his grasps." Josai put a hand on Wren's shoulder. "I hoped it would never come to this. The next one won't be so easy to digest, we need to go quickly, your current body is reacting to our fight and has way too much damage to easily repair itself" Wren nodded and followed him farther down the corridor.
"AAH! HELP!" Wren could hear the screams of her brother and without much thought, rushed towards the sound. When she arrived, she saw that her brothers young body was badly beaten and he tightly clung to their father who was motionless on the ground. There was only one man within the same area and she recognized him as Conner. "Oh what is it ya' wee lad? Want some more? Ol' Conner can give ya' plenty. Ya' dear old daddy can't help ya' this time." Conner raised his sword, aiming for the same spot that had been cut open on the young boys back. He then sliced his back slowly starting from his shoulder down to his waist, all the while Diego cried out in pain.
"Wren, I apologize once again, but it seems our time will be cut short. I did my best to collect my thoughts to show you but we are out of time. Go to the temple, find the last closet in the east wing, find and open the trap door, follow along the wall for 20 paces then you will find more information." During the time he was talking both he and Wren started running towards the direction they came. "If I don't see you in the world of the living after this, be sure to find my spirit and let me know when you find the answers. Remember the Traveler named Conner, he goes by other names but he is a bad man. Since this involves your family I also suggest you peak into your records."
They finally stopped running and Josai stood directly in front of Wren with his hands on her shoulders. Even though he was only a teenager in his memories he was still taller than Wren. "One more thing My Lady, Takeda is not who or what he seems, find the river, find the knowledge. Please be ca-" Wren felt her connection with Josai forcefully separated. She yelled out in pain and took a deep breath in but immediately felt as if there was a tremendous weight on her chest. She tried to squirm away from it but she stopped when she suddenly felt a hot stinging sensation in her arms and legs. She tossed and rolled hoping to alleviate this feeling. The weight on her chest, and now within her head seemed to be increasing to the point to where she could no longer breath.*
