Chapter 21 - Coincidence

"Once she awakes and is strong enough I need you to take her and visit the Southern Territory. Keep her alive and safe as best you can." Sir Shoyo handed the book over to Michael. "Look over this for the time being and do not ever let your guard down." Without another word, Sir Shoyo stood up, put his stool back behind his desk, and walked out of the small room.

Michael looked down to the old book in his hands, then over to Wren. "Just how much of your past am I unaware of My Lady?" Michael began flipping through the book, trying to understand the meaning, and why everything was happening out of no where. "Ngh...M-Mi..." Michael looked up from the book over to Wren. Her eyes were still close but her face was scrunched in pain and she began to move her body around. "Hey, it's okay My Lady. I'm right here...I'm right here." Michael tried to softly touch her forehead to check for fever but Wren evaded his hand. She began to toss and turn more, "Lady Wren, please calm down. I am sure it hurts, but you will heal in no-" CRASH! There was a loud crash outside the room that startled Michael. He quickly got up and went over to the door. Slowly looking outside he saw a maid of the temple arguing with a young man with an average height and an athletic build.

'Why do you look familiar to me?' Michael decided to step outside the room, "What is all the noise about? We currently have patients in these rooms. Be mindful of your surroundings," The maid nervously apologized and went to fetch a broom to sweep the broken vase that had fallen. The man walked over towards Michael with a smile on his face, 'Well now, I didn't think we would meet each other so soon,' the young man thought to himself as he approached Michael. "That is far enough," Michael had moved forward so he would not be directly in front of the room Wren was in, incase this man meant trouble. "Identity yourself and why you are here within the inner temple, and in the medical ward." The young man stopped and nervously scratched the back of his head.

"My bad- uh I mean...My...apologi-ugh sorry man, I'm bad with etiquette, I didn't mean to worry you, my name is Jayce. I helped you out a few days back; when you were in the hospital and fainted? Remember that?" Michael was surprised, not many knew of his condition at the hospital. "I mean you and the Princess no harm. I saw and heard some sketchy stuff and a rumor so I left the hospital and tried to find you. Heh, I sure was surprised when I asked around; for being a warrior or guardian or whatever, you sure have a decent amount of ink and piercings." Michael went silent, 'Hm, I never really thought about it before, maybe I should consider hiding this,' Michael subconsciously reached up and touched the piercings on his left ear.

"Mr. Jayce, what is your business in finding me and informing me about hearsay and rumors? We have locations near the mainland as well as the hospital that take account of complaints, rumors, and overall concerns." Jayce let out a sigh, "Look, just call me Jayce, I'm only 25, hardly younger than you I'd imagine. It's kinda weird. Anyways, the truth? My older sister was married to someone from this island, I was just a little toddler back then but I remember her telling me how beautiful this land was and the awesome tech you guys made here. I worked odd jobs to get more money and I heard about some territory disputes where I'm from, and I caught wind of the war here. I was too-" "Alright enough. You seem credible, stop talking so freely about topics of the sort in plain view. Come into this room, however I will first need to ensure you to not have weapons, do you understand?"

Jayce nodded and walked after Michael, they reached the room where Wren was and Jayce made attempts to look inside the room, but he couldn't see anything. "Hey I thought you were guarding a Princess or something, but where is she?" Michael ignored Jayce's question and motioned for him to lift his arms so he could search for weapons. After Michael was sure he did not have any weapons, he turned to walk inside the room and Jayce followed. "Oh shi-" "Please mind your language Jayce. We all have an occasional slip of the tongue, but you are in the presence of a powerful figure among our clan, once again, be mindful of your surroundings." Jayce was looking back and forth to each end of the room, then he turned to walk out the door, then came back inside. "Wow this is cool, this must be part of the power, people from the island can have huh? I couldn't see anything from outside, it just looked like a dark dusty room, but when I crossed the doorway, it's all bright, warm, and there's a beauty in...oh my mistake, 2 beauty's in here."

Michael was amused by Jayce's reaction, 'Right, he's not aware of the range of abilities we can hold. It's only a simple illusion and here he is going...*sigh* why does he keep going in and out of the door like that?' Michael shook his head lightly, "Jayce will you come over here and focus please? I do not have all day to spare, watching you run back and forth between the doorway. If your information proves useful I will explain this more to you at a later date." Jayce froze and his cheeks turned slightly red, "Heh, my bad," Jayce walked towards Michael and sat down, "Where was I? Oh yeah, I heard there was a war here but I was too late. By the time I saved enough money to travel to this island I lost my sister, my nephew, and it seemed the people from this island lost all of their tech and trees and stuff. After spending the majority of my savings to get here, I didn't have enough to get back so I tried to find a job. Janitor at the main hospital was all I could do. It was helpful though, I learned about this culture more from the nurses and listening on patients conversations.

One day I was mopping a spot on the floor and I saw this Princess-" "She is a Priestess, not a princess," Jayce rolled his eyes, "Same same, anyways, I saw this PRIESTESS come in and she had horrible wounds on her, I didn't think she would make it, then I saw you all worried by her side. I assumed you were her man or something because you didn't look like a guard and had tattered and slightly torn clothes, that's how I could see the tattoo on your arm and part of one on your back, because the torn shirt. I made a point to go there more often and I noticed you standing and she wasn't there so I got worried, before I could ask you what happened, you fell to the floor so I called for help. The next day I saw this weird tall and kind of skinny guy hanging around, he had on a doctor's coat, but I knew he wasn't a doctor. I went to find a nurse and get her help, oh and then I also saw Wendy coming out of the communications room really mad one day, and coincidentally I noticed you were on the phone just before I saw Wendy storm out. I never trusted her; I'm not sure what trouble you got into, but there were definitely a lot of people watching the two of you at the hospital, trying to monitor your movements.

Ever since I first laid eyes on the Princ-sorry, Priestess, I've felt drawn to her and I feel like I need to protect her. I'm not trying to step on your toes or anything, I'm just not sure if anyone else would ever let you know, and...well like I said, there is just something about her. There is tension in my native lands as well as here on this island. I've been gathering information I can and trying to figure out what is credible and what isn't and also who I could share the information with. I'm sorry if you think I'm just wasting your time, but I just couldn't keep it to myself." Michael had been listening intently the entire time, "Jayce, what is the rumor you mentioned earlier?" "Oh right, well not a fully rumor, but I have been hearing two names over and over. One was Haruchi? Hauki, I'm not really sure how to say it and the other is Takar-Hmm Takera, no no, oh right Takeda!" Michael's mouth dropped open slightly and his eyes went wide. 'He was right.'
