Chapter 29 - Rescue Part1

POV:

Nym

I slowly opened my heavy eyelids, and wiped the remaining tears out of my eyes. I had been asleep for seven hours. I took a deep breath to calm myself down from my spiked adrenaline and anger. Music continued to play in my earbuds. I reached down to pick up my phone, shifting my weight onto my right side.

My battery was at 8 percent. I grabbed my bag that was sitting beside me. I searched through my bag to grab my black charging cube, and acetaminophen. My head was throbbing due to the sound of the helicopter, crying, exhaustion, and dehydration.

I plugged my phone into the cube and laid it beside me once more. I popped open the medication and pulled out a 625mg tablet. Gary looked back at me. " There is a basket on the side wall that has water, protein bars, and some instant coffee. It is not much but... " He paused " You need to eat something before you take any medicine because it can make you become sick. I also know that you haven't been eating. You need your strength; many people depend on you." He said seriously.

I smiled to him in gratitude. I undid my seat belt and began to cautiously walk to the bin. I dragged my hand against the seats and wall to help maintain my balance. When I made it to basket I pulled out two bottles of water, two peanut butter protein bars, and one instant coffee.

I opened the cap off of the water and took a swig. I then added the instant coffee and shook the bottle vigorously. The once clear liquid turned into a rich chestnut color. I opened one of the protein bars and headed over to Gary. I broke a chunk off and placed it into his mouth. His eyes turned upwards into crescent moons in appreciation. I placed the bottle of water and the remaining protein bar next to him. I turned away and liked the peanut butter off of the tips of my fingers.

I made my way back to my seat. When I sat back down I opened the protein bar and took a small bite. My stomach rumbles in appreciation. I guess I must have been hungry; I scarfed down the remaining bar. Thirsty I grabbed my drink and took a long sip of cold coffee.

"Mmmhhmm" I groaned out quietly. 'Oh thank the gods for caffeine.' I thought to myself. I popped the pill that was in my hand into my mouth and took another swig of my coffee.

I began to prepare myself for what to expect once we landed. I knew that this was something that I wasn't prepared for, but it had to be done. I had to save those children. After another hour and a half we landed outside of Lecce, Italy.

The helicopter landed softly as a result of Gary's expert flying. The grass surrounding the landing pad whipped down quickly. All of the blades became flush to the ground. Eight black SUVS were lined up on the side of the runway that was opposite of the landing pad. A tall man with wide set eyes and a Roman nose approached me.

" Special agent Lullaby, I am Agent Silvano. We have been waiting for your commands." He said in a professional tone. His dark sunglasses did not manage to hide his raven colored eyes in the bright sunlight.

"We will be heading out while I brief you about the situation." I said in a steady voice, even though, my heart and mind were anything but steady.

"Thank you Gary. You will be picking me up as well I assume?" I asked him.

"Of course special agent. I am here whenever there is a need, just give me a call." He smiled at me.

"Silvano let us not waste anymore time. There are children at stake." He nodded and I hurriedly walked to the car. When I got into the car I briefed the agents over the phones. Silvano's face twisted with disgust.

"Let's go save these children from that bastard!" He said angrily. He sped off and the tired squeaked against the asphalt leaving black marks on the road.
