Chapter 32 - Safe

POV

Nym:

The metal door was locked. I fished around to find my lock picking set. I pulled out a small black case and snapped it open. I unwrapped the black silk that contained my tools and began to work on the lock. "Why would you need to learn that?" An officer beside me asked.

"For situations like this. You can't just blow open the lock with a bullet in situations like this ." I replied while continuing to work at the lock. The officer looked away embarrassed.

"Done. Let's go, and remember we are here to save this children." Renewed fury in my voice. They turned to look at each other. The looked as though they were soldiers heading off to battle. No fear was seen on any of their faces. "Do not get hot and let anger cloud your judgement." I paused, "Do you understand?"

In unison they said "Yes ma'am!" In low voices. I grabbed the door handle and my grip tightened. I pulled my revolver back out of its holster. I pulled the hammer down. Nothing could have prepared any of us for the scene we were about to see.

The smell intensified by a hundred fold. One of the men began to cough and gag. We pointed out flash lights around the large room. Several children were bound in chains. It encircled their ankles and neck. Defecation was all over the cement floor. We could see blood all over the floors and walls. We fanned out to make sure they were alive. Whimpers would resound in the room and in our hearts. Some of the officers had tears streaming down their faces. "Silvano get the medics now!" He got his phone and made the call. "I need a pair of lock cutters." I also shouted towards him.

I walked around to look at my men. Some turned back and shock their heads. "Ma'am six of the children..." his words became choked.

I grimaced, "What matters now is that we save the others." Pain was on everyone's faces. "Don't worry we aren't here to hurt you." I paused. "It will all be okay. We are here to save you." I said gingerly. Some loud cries could be heard.I re-holstered my revolver and took the lock pick set back out of my pocket.

I walked forward to a child in front of me. He wore no clothing and his body was extremely dirty. I crouched down and began talking to him very softly. "I am going to take these restraints off of you, and I need you to stay very still. Okay?" I gingerly reached out my right hand. He looked at my face squinting with apprehension and fear. His lavender eyes looked very dull. I looked closer at his skin which was much paler than the others. Even his eyelashes and brows were a silvery white. He just looked at me not moving. I reached my hand a little further and touched his hand softly. He bared his teeth at me like a caged animal. "It's okay, it's okay. I am only here to help nothing more."

A loud thud was heard where the door was. Twelve men dressed in medical gear headed into the room. Shock was on their faces. They had two pairs of cutters and began to slowly approach the children. "Do not cut the chains around their necks. You will scare them. You must carefully pick those locks." They nodded in appreciation towards me and began to start working.
