Chapter 35 - The smell

POV

Nym:

*After Nym puts the boy in the ambulance*

There is something about that boy that makes me ache. The way his eyes were searing with hate and pain when I first saw him. It reminds me of myself, and how I was back then.

*Flashback to after I was rescued*

I woke up in an unfamiliar room. It was a soft blue room. I found myself on the softest purple blanket. I reached out and brought it up to my cheek and caressed it. I looked up to find a young girl with light brown hair looking at me. She was dressed in a green tank top and black paints. Her hair was tied back into a bun.

There was a loud knock and a man came in. I pushed myself back up against the white bed frame. He looked at me perplexed. "Emi your mother is waiting for you down stairs." He said calmly.

"Okay Dad!" She said excitedly and bounced out of the room, shutting the door behind her.

I winced at that word. Dad what a disgusting word, as if that excuse if a man was worthy to be called that. My father used me. He did that. Rage darkened my gaze as he approached me. I stood up and ran to an ornate desk on the opposite wall. I grabbed a letter opener towards him threateningly. It was only him and me in the room.

He continued walking toward me. I counted his steps. One,two three, four, five..... in a total of eight steps he was only two feet away from me. My body shook and I slammed my blade at him swiftly.

"Shing shing" the sound of it crashing on the floor was deafening. My wrist was in his hand. "Now you will have to better than that if you are going to kill somebody." He said dangerously. I trembles and tried to back away. I couldn't; his grip was to strong.

I snarled at him and tried with all my might to get him to let go. He didn't; I began to pant heavily. My body couldn't continue like this.

*Flashback ends*

I re-entered the house and made my way back down to the other children. People were rushing out while carrying small children in their embrace. They looked like sick puppies just dangling there.

There was a total of nine children left six of which were dead. I looked around the room once more.I picked up a small girl. She couldn't of weighed more than twenty-seven kilograms. Her knotted hair was falling out in certain places due to lack of nutrition. I made my way back up the stairs slowly and handed her over to another medic. I walked back down to that dark room.

The other two children that were alive had already been brought to the medics. Now all that was left were the unfortunate ones that had perished. I sat down beside of them and offered a prayer to the gods. I looked up to the ceiling and closed my eyes. I folded my hands," Please oh heavenly mother look after these young children's spirits. May they never need ,or fear anyone ever again. May they find true peace in your ever loving embrace. May your love be overflowing and nurturing. As the most loving mother in all of existence please watch over the children that I could not save in time. Please allow me to save the others that have become lost because of that waste of flesh that was that man.Guide their spirits back to your light oh mother." I said softly in my mother tongue.

I turned around to find an officer behind me. She looked at me with confusion in her eyes. I muttered softly, "it was a prayer for the dead." She nodded at me," it sounded very pretty even though I don't know what you said. I shuffles over to pick up two children. One boy and one girl; they couldn't have been older than 10 years. What kind of sick bastard would do this to children, I thought to myself.

I pulled them into my embrace with one head leaned up against each shoulder. Their bodies were extremely stiff and carried the fowl stench of rot. They must have been dead for several days. "Be careful with their bodies." I said coldly. She nodded once more. I walked the stairs once more .I made it outside and I put them into seperate body bags. Medics rushed past me and put them in a very cold van to prevent any more decaying of their once soft and warm skin.

I waited outside for a moment more and gazed up at the sky. It began to darken with thunderclouds. A loud crash and bang sounded. The storm was officially here. Rain began to fall swiftly to the ground. "Ah you must also be mourning the loss of you beloved children." I said with thoughts swirling swiftly in my mind.

I called Emimile and asked if she would book a hotel room for me. She responded sullenly after I told her what had happened with a yes. Silvano told me that he would take me there, and so we hoped into his car. No sound except for our breathing could be heard. We drove for 45 minutes before we arrived. "Thanks for the ride Silvano." He smiled and said, " I wish it would have been under better circumstances Agent." He then drove off.

I made my way inside and grabbed my keycard from the receptionist. She did her best to smile and not retch at the smell of me. I walked out and heard her say," I don't know if I'll ever get that pungent odour out of the carpets." She sighed heavily.
