Tim is pained seeing Pam this way, something in his heart felt unclogged but it still hurts. After waiting for so long, reality is, he has never seen her cry. For the moments they were together, he can only remember her the sweet face that brought sunshine to his day. He cannot bear to see her this way. When they initially met, he had a different impression of her as if she is a different person.
He moved forward sliding from his seat to be near Pam and hugged her.
Pam was startled but it gave her comfort. When was the last time he was this intimate with Tim? She has convinced herself that she has moved on, but God know how he missed this guy. Maybe she was too idealistic back then. It did not help that she did not have the courage to confront Tim. Its very late to regret now.
The scent maybe different now but the familiar warmth of his hug is still there. "Don't cry anymore. It's all in the past." He rubbed her back, gave it a soft tap and released her. "I wish you well Pam, be happy in the future."
In tears and snot, Pam raised her head and smiled brightly to Tim. After a long time, she is able to genuinely smile back at him. She wished this happened sooner or maybe 6 or 7 years ago. Maybe things would have been different now. "I wish you well and happiness too." She wiped her tears, "I need to get my face fixed; they are returning anytime soon." She then stands and proceeds to the washroom. One burden is lifted but the bitterness of the 'wish' in inevitable. She not just wanted to fix her face; Tim's hug and presence now is suffocating her. She needs to breath.
As he watched Pam go, Tim had mixed emotions. Momentarily, she saw that same pretty little face of the girl she adored. He missed it! He finds pleasure observing her back then. Her movement, her facial expression, her innocence and candidness. He painfully missed it for the last 5 years. He almost gone crazy looking for answers back then. 'Why did she leave me?' He always thinks that he is someone who is never lacking, Pam made him re-evaluate himself.
Mark and Jenna witnessed the point where Tim hugged Pam. They looked at each other and seem to have understood what each is thinking. Their effort has not been wasted.
Earlier while they are figuring out what will happen as they gave the couple time and space to talk, they both agree that they were truly in love with each other back then. They spoke about the ex-couple after agreeing to set them up to talk.
"Even if they cannot be friends, I earnestly hope they can have a closure of what had happened. They should not be shooting daggers with each other and move on. And…" Jenna purposely stopped and squinted her eyes on Mark.
"What?! What?! This is about Tim and not me."
"Just making sure you keep this between the two of us." Mark sighed, he thought Jenna is going to pick on him. Then she continued.
"When Pam left Tim there were so many things that happened that added into her heartbreak. The worst is…her mom died after knowing her only daughter got a miscarriage."
Mark's eyes widened, "She got pregnant? With whom?" He was so damned surprised that he failed to consider Tim as the only possible candidate until Jenna glared at him.
"Was there ever another man?!" She rolled her eyes. "Your friend is so lucky to have her first! Who knows probably the only man she had sex with. Just imagine, Pam blames herself for all these things and no one! Literally she has no one to share her grievances back then.
Mark final understood how tragic it was for Pam because if its just for sex who cares about first time and virginity. This opened his mind how communication is important especially in their case where they get assigned elsewhere.
Over the past weeks since she was back in touch with Pam, the puzzling break up became clearer to Jenna.
"I was thinking, what could have happened if I told Tim where Pam Is back then?" They hid in one side of the restaurant observing.
"It was bound to happen, maybe they were not meant to be together but who knows what could still happen." After his 'boys talk' with Tim, there is something puzzling about his situation, but he chose to keep it to himself.
"So, I am thankful to run into you still single babe." He continued to coax Jenna and kissed her temple. They leisurely walked towards the table.
Jenna was thinking they could be happily talking in a double date; however, the train has departed, and they have navigated a different path. Seeing them hug, there was a bit of regret in her heart.
She acted clueless as they are back and asked, "where is Pam?"
"She went to the restroom." Tim was still in deep thoughts. When Pam cried earlier, when he hugged her, there was fleeting feelings of wanting to protect and completely own the young girl.
The couple could not ask what happened as they planned for this to happen. Tim is not dumb; he knew the two had something to do with this meeting. Whatever the purpose is, it's not to confuse him but likely to clear things out.
His face may not look dark, but it had traces of gloominess. He has always been sure of what he wants and his feelings. Pam is someone he was sure of back then. The pain compounded in his heart because he was clueless why that someone, he wanted so badly left him. He waited until longing became hatred. Although he is not someone who has superiority complex, any guy would be hurt to be dumped.
There is no need to hate. He had to wish her well, the pain after all is not one sided.
