She was just figuring out her bearings in this world when she was kidnapped by a Terrorist Group for being born to an "elite" family... Chapter 1 - Time Travel?

It didn't make any sense.

One moment she was asleep on a plane and the next, she is in a hospital?

It wasn't one of the normal-looking hospitals too, it was a kind of futuristic-looking room with all the medical appliances neatly tucked into the walls!

In fact, the only reason she knew this was a hospital was due to the rhythmic tones that echoed her heartbeat and the tag on her wrist that was typical of hospital visits.

Confused, she tried to stand up and take a look around, only to collapse on the floor.

"Owwww... I really should not have tried that."

She heard the door open and what sounded like people talking. Rubbing her ankle which was seemingly bruised in the fall, she looked forward, only to be greeted by a line of white shoes and what seemed to be some really tall people dressed smartly in white.

They reached out to her, easily pulling her up and settling her back comfortably on the bed, speaking in gibberish she did not understand.

They fussed about her and sent her for some tests, all the while asking her questions that she did not understand and therefore, could not answer.

After what seemed like hours of tests, blood drawing, as well as question and answer sessions (of which she could only shake her head at), the tall people dressed in white (seemingly doctors and nurses of this world) finally wheeled her back into the room she had woken up in where she saw a lady sobbing in the embrace of a male, who was petting her back and comforting her with a solemn face.

They both turned to look at her as she was wheeled in, and the lady burst into fresh tears again as she broke free of the male's embrace and lunged towards her.

She flinched, not feeling comfortable after being poked and prodded for the tests hours before. But her body seemed to feel comfort at the somewhat familiar embrace. The lady spoke excitedly to her as she gestured with her hands while the man kept petting her bag, sometimes giving her quick hugs.

Lys did not reply; she did not feel comfortable speaking in English, which no one seemed to understand. The lady looked worriedly at her and turned to the nurse to find out what was going on.

"Miss Lys doesn't understand anything that is being said," the nurse saw what happened and tried to explain. "We have done a check and confirmed that all her body functions are normal. Please try not to overexcite her until we have fitted the translator chip and can do more tests. All initial scan results are normal and this may just be a temporary condition as she has just woken up after a 30-year coma."

The couple held hands and nodded, then fussed about her, taking out toy after toy to entice her into playing, and running about trying to make her comfortable. They gave her some treats and tried feeding her the porridge they had bought from the hospital canteen.

Lys was still confused though...

What was going on?

Why couldn't she understand anything?

Where on earth was she?

She was quickly fitted with a translator chip. The nurses brought her to a sterile room, got her to turn around and injected something to the back of her head. It was just a little pain and then she could understand everything that was being said.

The couple? That was her parents.

But she was an orphan!

She was in a coma for the past 30 years.

Hmm... that explains the aches and pains (or was that the fall she had taken when she awoke?), and the weakness she felt when attempting to stand.

They were in a hospital.

Yea, she had figured that one out based on all that whiteness, the uniforms of everyone who came into the room, all that poking and prodding and all that...

It was the year 4019.

What? It was just 2019 and she was on her first plane flight! She was supposed to fly to Malé for a co-worker's wedding!!

What happened to the plane? How did she "sleep" for 2000 years? Or was it 30 years? Was it even of the same millennia or was it some new calendar?

How did she "survive" this long? Was it time-travel? Cryogenic freezing? Could it be like some of those internet novels where they somehow changed their world or something? What happened to the her that was on the plane?

And where did this pair of parents come from? How did she suddenly get adopted at the age of 28?

Answers! She needed answers!!

But even though she understood what everyone was saying now, they didn't necessarily understand her. Or at least not unless they used the translator as well (Such convenience!! Travel would be awesome with it!).

One parent always stayed to accompany her while the other was occupied, either with the calls they received or when talking to the medical staff.

The doctors took her in for more question and answer sessions, after which they proclaimed her as: healed but amnesia regarding her past (of this life) and language but retaining all motor skills. The current language that she knew was classified as "ancient and unknown" and more study needed to be conducted to identify what it was.

As for how she knew it? It was one of the miracles of her coma... after all, there were records of people waking up from their comas knowing or doing all sorts of stunts and feats they never could before.

She dared not say too much about her past, after all, she seemed to be in this unknown place with unfamiliar people and is alone. And as history taught her, being the odd one out will cause massive amounts of attention.

And she may be put into a box to be studied.

No no, that she didn't want.

Time to pretend to be Miss Lys and learn what she could.
