Chapter 14 - Calm Water

As I finally let out the pain my screams slowed down to just whimpers. My body curling up into a fetal position as searing pain throbbed through my body.

"Kasey!!" I heard him call for me but i could only see the flames of anger and hate. "Kasey stop!! You have to stop!" I felt a hand on my shoulder as i looked up and met the orange eyes of fire. Eyes of pain and anguish and worry. Memories flashed through my mind as I gasped for air, smoke burning my throat and lungs. My last thought was encircled by a name, Jackson. But the longer i reached for the memory, the tighter the oppression of my mind became. And before i could touch the edge of the image, the smoke curled around it and snapped at my throat.

My old friend curled its claws around me, its power pushing me into the all to familiar slumber...

The gears in my head started to crank again, and i slowly dared my eyes to open. I glanced around confused and slowly lifted my hand to my left eye. I started to pant as I slowly felt around my eye, feeling nothing unusual. But the chilling emptiness of the darkness sending me bolting up. I stumbled as I used my one good eye to look around rapidly for a mirror. I looked over at the doors, one would lead to a hall, the other to a closet, so the last one should be.....

I ran over to the first door and flung it open, a hand shielding my left eye as I looked into the small space full of clothing. My ragged breathing the only sound I could hear other than the blood in my ears. My heart was faster than a galloping horse as I rushed to the other door and threw it open, my hand flinging around, fumbling for the light switch. As my hand finally flicked the light on, my one eye was momentarily blinded as I turned to the mirror. My face was pale, and as I slowly lowered my hand, I felt my stomach lurch. A black patch seemed to devour part of my face; the unusual black coating my skin from my eye brow to my cheek bone, encircling my left eye. Looking closer at the horrifying change, I stared at my sclera, or white of my eyes that was now black, and the iris that was now a crimson red. And the last observation, was how my pupil was now a slit, like a demons.

I puked my guts up in the white porcelain toilet, my left eye still completely blind. As I slowly stood back up, I flushed the toilet with shaky hands and slowly turned to the rose quartz counter and slowly ran my hand under the cold water. I watched the water flow smoothly over my skin as I made a cup with my hands and let the water fill my hands up. As I splashed the water on my face I felt my throat knot as I choked on my tears. I slowly looked up at my reflection, the haggard look seeming almost normal.

The gentle knock on the doorway to the bathroom made me swirl to look at the figure who sadly watched me, those blue eyes looking me over as I blankly stared at him.

"I.. want to apologize..." Apophis mumbled as he took a step closer. I looked over the bandages that was covering his body. "I didn't know.... that... I didn't know that you harbored so many strong emotions..."

I couldn't help but scoff. I slowly brushed past him, my feet taking me to the familiar comfort of bed. I sat at the edge of the bed, my left hand slowly raising to cover my left eye. My voice was hoarse as I snapped at him, "and I didn't know you were still alive."

The deep sigh of regret sounded around the room, "Samael didn't have the guts to kill after seeing how badly Vetis was burned. And....How... uh..." He seemed to stumble over his thoughts as he turned away. Clearing his throat he whispered, "Do you want to see with that eye..?"

I almost laughed again, "what do you want to do with me now? Make me even more cursed than I already am?"

Apophis slowly moved closer till he was in front of me. "I want to take away the seal Samael put on your eye so you can see what we see.." he crouched in front of me, making me meet his blue eyes. "We can see more than the average human... That eye of yours is a demon eye...So you can see what we see.."

I glared at him before growling, "and what can you see?"

He sighed softly and looked away, "many things. Like auras or sometimes the strength of a certain spirit. And most of all, the demon spells and seals.." He met my eye again, "of course, you will only be able to see weaker seals and spells. I highly doubt you'll see much more than that, since you have only one demon eye."

I stared for a few moments before looking away, "but... then I wont be a human anymore..." I slowly dropped my hand, letting my blind eye blankly stare at the darkness. "How can I ever go back to my world... if I loose my humanity here...?"

He slowly reached his hand up and stroked my left cheek, making me look at him. "I won't let that happen...I'll do everything I can to protect you..."

I sniffled slightly as I felt tears trail down my cheeks, "but why would you waste your time? Why would you even think about giving up your life for someone like me?"

Apophis took my face in his hands and slowly put his lips on mine; the kiss lasting for a few seconds before he pulled away, and whispered, "Because someone like you, is worth dying for."
