Thud!
Lilia allowed Moli to fall to the floor. Guns clicked.
"Hold it!" Peter yelled.
Peter's eyes were trained on Moli who was convulsing. There was a look of anger.
"Lilia , how dare you!" Peter yelled.
With his strong reaction, Lilia was reminded of the past. She always thought the way Moli looked at Peter was too lovey-dovey. She never tried to mask her lust. She remembered the times when she would ask Peter about their relationship. He quickly pacified her with kisses and reassurances. But the truth was not only what she suspected but they both conspired for the lives of everyone she ever knew.
Lilia kicked Moli. She rolled to her back.
Lilia smiled. She wouldn't be able to get to Peter with all these guns trained at her but Moli was a different story. She practically walked into her death.
"Are you upset Peter? It such a shame I can't make you know what it feels like to lose those closest to you today."
Peter smiled. It was as if he was watching something that had nothing to do with him.
The years of spying and collecting information was nothing to him. They were partners for so long. She wondered how she hadn't noticed his deception in the beginning.
It was truly terrifying to wonder how much of his ability he hid just to get close to her. She was the leading agent in their organization but to have such a sleeper by her side made her question her ability.
"In this world emotional connections only slow you down. What do you think? If I don't love you do you think I'd love her? She was a tool just like you were. I'll ask you again Lilia and you should think about the answer before you respond."
A part of her knew he didn't love her but to hear him say was another thing. It pained her heart to think that everything they had was one sided. To be fooled over the span of so many years was a slap in the face to her.
She couldn't believe she could be so muddled by love. Peter was right there was no need for emotional attachment in their world. It made you blind to all the clues before her.
Her hand tightened on the blade handle. She really wanted to slit his throat.
He was asking her as if he expected her to give him exactly what he wanted. But she didn't trust him not to kill her.
There were hundreds of small teams like hers around the world. She could not compromise their safety for her life. It was too shameful. This was simply her loss and bad luck. What could she do?
What Peter wanted was worth too many important lives to her. This world had nothing for her before the Organization. It was the same for the rest of her comrades.
She would never give up her leader till death!
"I cannot give you what you want". Lilia made up her mind. She didn't know what was going to happen with her and her baby.
"Very well. I can always torture it out of you. Don't think because you are pregnant with my child that I can't hurt you."
Peter motioned to two mercenaries. "Grab her."
They came towards her. She had to choose death versus an uncertain future.
She dodged under their arms and ran towards Peter. She was going to stab him. He Grabbed her arm and twisted it and took the blade from her. She kicked him and he released her a little.
Peter placed the knife in his pocket. He went to punch Lilia, she dodged and struck back. They exchanged blows.
Soon Lilia was against the wall. She went to punch him again but he grabbed her arm. She tried to wrestle away but his grip was too good. He twisted her around, shoving her face to the wall.
"Last chance. Speak on what you know." Peter pushed her arm to the center of her back in an awkward position.
Peter pushed her arm till a loud snap was heard. Lilia screamed. He pinned her broken arm to her and used it to keep her against the wall.
Lilia's breath was ragged.
"You should listen to me when I speak Lilia . I could have given you the world but like I said- Emotional attachments makes you weak."
The same blade Lilia used to kill Moli entered her stomach with two swift motions. Lilia was already losing too much blood. This was the final act. She felt her blood run cool, weakening her.
She slumped back and Peter caught her. He sat with her in his arms. Lilia wanted to roll away from him but paralysis was taking root. She was taking sharp shallow breaths.
Peter combed her hair from her face in an intimate way. "Just let it go."
"Peter Han. I hope you live very long. I will turn into a vengeful spirit and I will haunt you. Into this life and the next."
His cold face blossomed a sweet smile, "My love, you can wish all you want for the next life but in this life you have lost. And It's time for you to say goodnight."
He raised the blade and delivered the final blow to her chest.
Her angry eyes slowly lost their light.
