Chereads / War God's Unyielding Bride / Chapter 8 - Awaken (4)

Chapter 8 - Awaken (4)

The axe came out smoothly. She couldn't tell it exactly alloy in the way she could see. She touched the edge of the blade. It seemed as if it was sharpened not to long ago.

What should she do next?

[Little human, come back here.] A deep voice done from somewhere.

Lilia looked around. Was that the snake?

Was she curious enough to find out? Nah. It was best to get as far away as possible.

[I know you want to cultivate]

Oh yeah… That was what got her in this situation in the first place. It would be ashamed to just walk away.

But clearly the serpent was trying to trick her. It was best to cut her losses. Today wasn't the best day.  Another day she could find more energy she'd just take the axe with her.

As she started to walk away,a wind blew by her ear. Suddenly Ezer was standing before her. She could have used him three hours ago but he decided to appear when all the action was done.

She wanted to voice her complaints but one look at his stone face told her it was best to keep it to herself.

"You aren't going to kill the serpent? " Ezer asked but it sounded like a statement.

What was she supposed to use? Her bare hands?

"He's a cultivated beast. I can't fight him." Lilia's reply was curt.

Ezer stared at her for a moment. Didn't he tell this girl she wasn't like other humans. Attacks, as  long as they weren't too forceful, couldn't do anything to her.

What was that half dumb snake supposed to do to her?

If Lilia knew what Ezer was thinking, he probably would be the one hacked to be hacked up. This whole world wasn't second nature to Lilia. Half of what was happening didn't make sense.

To make matters worse the former host had no useful battle information. This was something she'd have to learn on her own.

"I'll help you. It will be easy if you do as I say."

Ah. So he was good for something. A feeling blossomed in her chest. For the first time in so many moments, she found herself to be excited.

As long as she could build strength and be the master of her own fate, she would be content in this world.

"Ok let's go see what can be done. "

Ezer took the lead.

Meanwhile, the serpent was fuming with indignation. He was the ruler of this forest and yet still he found himself in this kind of embarrassing predicament.

To make matters worse, the human had not returned. After going through all this trouble to trap him she simply did not have the powers to kill him.

Yes. It was best for her to run. If he got his hands on her she surely would have been dead by now.

But imagine his surprise when it returned with a weapon in hand. It couldn't do anything to pierce his skin.

[ Indeed little human. You are very brave.]

He was going to have a nice piece of roasted meat. As soon as he untangled himself and she couldn't run away.

[Come a little closer so I can see what you are.]

Lilia stopped a good distance away from the head. She was still too freaked out to go closer. Ezer also stopped next to her.

"So what do I do?"

"He's going to attack you once you're close enough. When he does, simply think about absorbing the attack and you won't get hurt. Once you get close enough you can absorb his qi. He'll be harmless after that. "

"I'm sorry, what!?" Lilia was bewildered. "In case you don't know, cousin attacked me the same way not too long ago and that hurt. "

"Does it still?"

No but that wasn't the point. She could have died.

"The pain was only temporary. You probably absorbed some of her qi and didn't know."

Lilia stared at the man next to her. He really could care less about her safety and concerns.

She tried to remember they had a deal and with her dead he couldn't earn back his full powers.

She advanced closer to the serpent. To him, her reappearance was sudden. One moment he couldn't sense her and the next moment she wasn't too far from him. She definitely wasn't so simple. But he still planned on killing her.

[Tell me, are you a boy or a girl?]

What? What kind of question was that. She was clearly a girl. She wasn't that boney.

Well, she wasn't going to satisfy him with a response.

Sssss.

He struck out his tongue. She came as close to him as far as his tongue could extend.

Haha. She was just within range. She couldn't run away. He raised his head above her and summoned a large fire within his stomach. He shot straight for her.

Ha ha. She didn't even move. She must have been petrified. Once he undid himself, he'll have a good meal to enjoy.

Lilia saw the fire coming towards. She ignored every cell in her body that told her to run and watched the fireball rushed towards her. She reached one hand up.

Motherf*****!!!

She didn't even get to see the sun rise in this new world and she was already skipping to go meet Yama.

She wasn't dying but it sure adds hell felt like it.  The instant her hands came into contact with the yellow fire, her original focus was to channel it. But the heat burned through her fingers and up her arm, quickly running to her chest and spreading all over her body. She could feel the unbearable pain as it ran through her veins and dug themselves deep within her bones. The type of sensation felt seemed as if it could only be solved by breaking open her bones to release the pressure.

Was this what Ezer spoke about? She wouldn't get hurt? Then what was she feeling now?

The pain she felt got to her brain. She was completely wired. She could split her own head open and not tell the difference at this point.

The serpent watched from above with glee. He hated these humans who thought they were about every creature.

Lilia couldn't feel herself anymore.

Whoosh.

The fire disappeared.

The serpent was shocked and Lilia was grateful. Her clothes had been burnt but were largely wearable in her modern definition of the word.

The serpent inched closer to get a closer look at the situation and stuck his tongue out to her.  She was still alive!

Lilia took advantage of the situation and grabbed the snake's tongue. Before he could withdraw, she focused on establishing a connection with his qi center. The serpent could no longer move.

Lilia felt the cold energy run  into her veins. It was the complete opposite of the fire attack. She wanted to let go but there was something strangely addictive about this. The energy pulsates slowly throughout her body, soaking into her muscles and organs.

When she drew the last of the qi, everything within her stood still. Without notice, the qi pushed their way into her bones. The qi energy ground it's way to deepest part of her bones. She could not breathe. Her body stiffened up. She was afraid any slight movement would suddenly cause her body to shatter.

The serpent didn't know when it died but it was dead now. What unfortunate thing did it do received such an end.

The snake body crumbled to dust. It was the only show of its existence.

Lilia fell to her knees, trembling. Her breath was frigid. She laid in fetal position.

Ezer, who watched from the sidelines was pleased. He approached her and kneed by her body.  Lilia did better than he expected. He took off his coat and placed it over her body. She had been awakened.
