Chereads / A Lucid Dream / Chapter 24 - Starry Night

Chapter 24 - Starry Night

Woah!!! That was a fierce experience, we had to go here and there for our duty. We may start patrolling the whole world at this rate. Surprisingly, we did not feel exhausted at all. Was that because of Ahim's power? Ahim had alerted us already that since this work is time-consuming, we should not involve in any other jobs so that we execute our work diligently and also ensure punctuality.

Of course, even a fraction of second matters when it comes to creating life-changing moments. We were still to discuss Ashmit's case, it had been a week already. Sita moved to Hyderabad, Swara helped her getting a room in her apartment. I was told by Ahim that I was destined to end up in the Mystic Throne, even without Sita's powers. It had always been a mystery to me, I wonder what made him say that. I wanted to ask him that but without Sita, I couldn't meet him.

"Thinking 'bout me?"

"Ahhhh! When will you stop doing that?", I jumped on my bed. That was Sita, she had grown a very bad habit of exploiting her powers to scare me like that. "I am gonna ask Ahim to rip off powers from you next time!"

She laughed out loud and it was clear that she totally enjoyed that. The table had turned, I used to be a prankster once. She learnt a very useless thing from me for sure.

"Grab your stuff and get ready.", she started rummaging through my wardrobe and threw some clothes on a chair beside me. "This looks good. Go and get changed."

"What's it this time?", she had become extra lively since we met Ahim.

"Shhhhh!!! I do not accept any questions. Do as I say."

Although I was excited, I pretended to be annoyed and did as she said while whining. Her mischievous eyes were smiling as she asked me if I was ready. She stepped closer to me, she had her hair tied in a ponytail and she had a fresh scent of flowers, it reminded me of Ajopavana. She closed my eyes, giggling and counted, "3...2...1!"

We had a wild landing, we fell hard on the ground. But thankfully, the ground was full of fresh grass. The moment I got a grasp of the situation, I woke up at the sky adorned with an uncountable amount of stars. That was crazy, that girl was crazy, it didn't look like a real place in the world. "Tadaaaa!!!", she laughed not being able to hide her happiness, I laughed along as if her laughter was contagious.

"Is this even real?", I pointed out the large moon swallowing up a considerable amount of the sky. Under that huge moon, her eyes sparkled like a gem. I stole glances, yes, but… why? I looked away and shook my head.

"This is a place inside my head.", she stood up and jumped in excitement. I was at a loss for words, "Isn't it amazing??? I can go to imaginary places too.". She told me that she wanted to experiment with her ability to teleport to an imaginary place and she did not want to do that alone as she was scared of getting trapped.

"So, you thought it was better to get trapped here with me?"

"I hate dying alone?"

"Uh! You murderer! Are you tryna kill me now? Come here!", she started to run away from me. We ran for a while and I realized that the place was just a forest with numerous trees and bushes. At a point, the chasing turned into exploring the place together, we walked deeper into the dense forest. There was no end to it, "Woah! It feels like walking the same place again and again."

"It is because I framed only the sky and a forest. But I think, it would be perfect to have a treehouse, don't you think? What if it rains? I should keep these details in mind for the next time."

"You wanna come again?"

"Yes... For now, let's go there, to the place we landed."

"How about we go back?"

"You're no fun!"

"Thanks.", she got pissed and walked past me.

"You can't go back without me anyway!!!", she shouted and booed at me. Not having any other option, I followed her quietly. She turned around to look at me walking behind frequently without a word. Once we reached the place, she opened the backpack she carried along and took out a sheet to spread it on the ground. I sighed, I knew she had no idea of going back sooner. Like an obedient pet, I took my seat beside her, she had more, she grabbed a bottle.

"We are really gonna get stuck here, Sita!"

"You don't wanna?", she pouted, "Then don't! I am gonna get wasted.", I was scared, very scared of her excited smile that day.

I watched her gulping down half a bottle and going further, "Enough!", I snatched the bottle from her, she had already seemed tipsy. Her eyes squinted with an obvious frown on me who tried to keep her away from alcohol.

"Oh! My… it's mine…", she whined a bit and leaned on me fighting to get back the bottle from me. That was the second time that day she came closer. I couldn't keep up, she was not giving up. Without any hesitation, I rolled the bottle into the bush near us. I thought she was gonna make another fuss for doing that but she seemed happy.

"Ah! Here… It's here…", she poked my cheek, "My… my… Prakash…", she giggled. I was petrified and didn't know how to react to her drunken self. I kept on averting my eyes, slowly tried to get her off me, "Sleep, now just sleep…"

"You see that?", she showed the moon, "I watch it… daily… and I feel… so happy… Do you know why?"

"Why?"

"Because… you and I… live under the same sky…"

"Okay, okay! Go to sleep!"

"Hmm! Hmmm!", she denied, "I am afraid… I will… never say… anything…", her eyes shifted to mine from the moon, "I hope… I can tell you… one day…", she seemed sober for a moment and another moment, she softly pressed her lips against mine. Her sudden act took me aback and was it because it was her imaginary world? The weather had become insanely good all of a sudden. I even saw a shooting star in the sky and yeah, my heart was bombed.
