Two months after Jack's death mother passed away too, her refusal to drink any medicine caused her condition to get even worse. Her death left me all alone in a small house, with no idea on how to get food. What we had storied could keep me alive for about 5 and a ½ month if not less. Days and night seemed to blur together, I was beginning to forget how to tell what hour it is or even what day. Before I knew it 6 months had passed by and my health was getting worse from the lack of food and water. I went to get up to go weed the small garden I had started to grow on the side of my house when I hear the sound of something nonhuman. I walked to the door and peeked outside to see three men on their own four-legged creature with the prettiest colored skin I ever saw. The first one was brown with white mottled spots, another one that was black with grey spots, and the last one was a pure white one. As I continued to watch as the two older men began to talk in a strange language that I couldn't understand.Â
I watched as they got off the mystical creatures and started to walk toward my house. The one thing I did understand is that they were unfamiliar and were getting closer and closer to the house where I currently reside. I had nowhere to run because if I did they would see me immediately. I ducked back into the house and hid in the darkest corner hugging my body to the wall, slowing my breathing and waiting silently for them to appear.
The first one to enter was a young boy who seemed to be around my age, but the way he walked didn't seem to be that of a child's. His eyes scanned the house, seeming to be looking for something. Looking a bit upset he turned to leave, at that moment I released the breath I didn't know I was holding. It must've been louder than I thought because he stopped in his track and turned around, looking straight in my direction.
My blood ran cold, his eyes meet mine and I immediately dashed to the door hoping that I would make it through the small space. It seemed as though he was letting me go as I squeezed through. He didn't even try to stop me. I ran towards the hill moving gracefully, having gotten familiar with it some more since being on my own. Only about halfway up and I could already hear the shouts from the unknown men. Quickly latching onto a tree branch I lifted up my body up. Climbing higher and higher just to get me off the ground so that no one would see me.
Hiding behind a cluster of leaves I peered down at the ground to see the two grown men standing right below me. One shouted out something then left, leaving only one. I may have a weakened body but I still threw my body down, landing on top of him and sending him spiraled out on the ground. I spun back toward the direction of my house and ran back. As I was running I tripped causing me to fall forward. Before my face could meet the ground arms wrapped around my waist keeping me from falling. I looked back to discover it was the young boy. I tried to push him away from me, struggling to get free.Â
My hand hit him in the face causing me to cease in my movement. As his hand went up I flinched but it only went up to rub his injured face. As his hand left his sleeve there were metal bracelets with a chain attached to it. I went to touch it only to have him snatched my wrist.
" Don't touch it....run." He spoke in broken English.
I stared up in shock at him, shaking my head I grabbed him and dragged him along with me.
"I don't like how you have those things on you it looks as though it is keeping you from moving around a lot"Â
I don't think that he was really expecting me to end up dragging him instead of him dragging me.Â
"What ...doing? Run!"Â
I liked that even though he couldn't fully speak my language he still tried, but I wasn't going to look weak. I continued to drag him, we made it to my house in moments, the shouts still after us. I froze in place not sure what to do. Should I go to the house?
N,y will find us there and we would be cornered if we did anyway. I would say that we take the strange creatures but I don't know how to ride one and I'm already extremely tired, and I don't think that I would last long anyway, because I haven't had anything to eat so I am quite famished.
I was practically thrown onto the four-legged creatures.Â
"We ... ride…."Â
"I don't know how to! What are these things?" I spoke with fear slowly creeping out my voice.Â
He held a look upon his face as though he was thinking I was stupid. Â
I didn't know what to do, so I just grabbed onto the strange creatures and used him as a support to hold on to.Â
There was a snapped behind us and there was to the two men, out of breath. They began to shout in their language. With a quick snap of the reins, we were off. They yelled and started to give chase.
They were fast but on these creatures, we were on where faster. I clung to the boy and buried my face in between his shoulder blades.Â
The time seemed to pass by so quickly, and soon the people were far behind us.
Hours went by and finally, we stopped. As I moved to get off I was immediately stopped, the young boy had grabbed hold of my wrist. As I looked at him his grip tightened to the point I grimaced in pain.Â
"What's wrong? Can you please let me go?" I tilted my head in confusion while he stared at me and vise versa.Â
His grip on my loosened just slightly as he still continued to stare at me.
"H-Hello? Are you okay?" My voice quivered slightly as I started to get nervous and scared.Â
"Aaron." was all he said then he let go and jumped off the creatures.
Stunned I stared at him in confusion, as he pointed to himself.Â
Repeating what he said before once more while pointing to himself again, "Aaron."
"Oh! Nice to meet you Aaron my name is Jill." I replied back to him while extending my hand towards him.Â
He just stared coldly at my extended hand and turned around. Leaving me to stand there in disbelief and staring at his back.Â
Glancing over his shoulder he asked, "Are you coming?"
A smile grew upon my face and I ran to catch up with him.Â
Days had passed and the air filled with a crisp clean feeling. I took in a deep breath and watched as my breath formed small clouds before me. Aaron had gone silent for some time now not taking a glance towards me. I glanced to the side to look at him and seen something different. A smile as rare as a euclase gem appeared upon his face. I stared in awe and stop. Though he continued to walk only stopping once he realized I wasn't with him, only then did he acknowledge my existence.Â
With his eyebrows scrunched together and a worried tone he spoke so softly as of speaking to an injured animal, "...wrong? ...stop?"
Though we've been together for a good bit our communication hasn't really gotten better, but I've come to be able to understand him far better than I used to.Â
"Nothing." I smiled and jogged to get to him and took his hand in mine.Â
He flinched but by now he's gotten used to it, no longer swatting my hand away. I'm glad I can see him smile.
