Chapter 2 - Relief

Our escape was anything but easy, it was as if every person was trying to capture us. It didn't really help that our features made us stand out, well him more so than me. With his black hair, tan skin, red ruby eyes and his slim but built stature compared so my light soft brown hair, baby blue eyes, and pale ivory skin. It made us seem like odd pairs and that attracted attention, and trust me we didn't need anymore.

For the past 4 months, I and Aaron have gotten somewhat closer and gradually become able to understand each other. I still don't know anything about his past, but that goes for me. Even though I say that we grew closer I guess when I put it that way I guess we really haven't, we've just grown comfortable with each other.

Walking beside him I started to hum and gradually started to sing, Aaron not minding it one bit.

When It came to an end he finally spoke up, "We have to get some money. I'm certain that if we got a part-time job at an Inn in the upcoming village we could earn a few coins to buy some dried foods. I could clean up around it and we could suggest you as an entertainer."

Even though he made it seem like he was asking for my opinion he really wasn't, because I barely have any outside knowledge. I just learned what the money circulation for the Kingdom was about 2 months ago.

Upon arriving Aaron left me near the guardhouse, whilst complaining that I was slow and it would take too long if I went with.

Several hours had passed and I now was sitting on the ground near a guard. With my knees up to my chest, I buried my face into them, tears slowly falling down my face.

I don't try to sound like a crybaby but I just don't like being alone.

"Hey kiddo you alright?" One of the guards patted my shoulder causing me to glance upwards.  My eyes were damp from my tears, and I saw him visibly flinch.

"I'm okay." I attempted to shake his hand off my shoulder but his grip only increased, thus causing me to grimace.

"Come on you're going to be okay."  Somehow, even though he spoke in a soft, gentle manner his eyes showed something else.

I froze, my mind went blank, I didn't know what to do. He was bigger than me and stronger, no matter what I didn't I wouldn't be able to getaway

"Hel-"

"Jill!" A familiar voice. Relief flooded into me as I glanced behind me and spotted Aaron.

"Jill there you are, moms waiting for us." He points into a building the directed his eyes to the man, "Thank you for helping my sister." With a smile that could swoon any gender and a look of someone who would murder anyone, the man let go of me.

Quickly Aaron grabbed my hand and dragged me off. After walking for several moments he pulled me into an alley. Immediately I was checked up and down. Besides the bruises, I was okay physically but mentally I broke.

Falling to the ground I wept, gasping for air in between each sob. Everything I had been holding back since mother died came rushing out. All the while Aaron held my in his embrace and rubbed my back soothingly
