"Mom? Dad?" I asked when I saw their bodies lying on the ground and a cloaked figure standing on top of them.
Krista's memories gave me grief and love towards people I have only met but were supposedly my parents my entire life.
"What did you do?" I demanded out of the cloaked figure.
"They were not long for this world anyway," the cloaked figure said calmly.
"You mean that they are dead?!" I asked, almost going catatonic with shock.
The cloaked figure was silent but I got a damn better look and I saw the blood all over the bodies. I also saw that he was holding a damn scythe dripping with blood.
"What happened to Adam and Katya?" I asked.
"Adam and Katya?" He asked, his tone revealing he knew them.
"Hmph, so you know them, huh? So, did they set this up? Break my soul?" I asked. I was at that point a bit delirious because my parents were both fearful of attack and have always protected themselves well... until now.
"Of course not," The cloaked figure scoffed, "They don't have any cruelty in them. It's easy to kill when there's not much life left in them..."
"Are you saying that you managed to just appear here because it's your duty to kill?" I scoffed.
I can't see his face but I could hear the smile in his voice as he said, "Why, yes."
I spat, "That's sick, I hope you go to Hell."
He chuckled, "Death can't go to Hell."
"I suppose you are going to kill me too? Before you do so, can I at least see the face of my killer?" I asked, hoping he would make a quick job of it. I just wanted everything to be over.
He stayed silent but pulled off his hood to reveal the most handsome yet unemotional face I have ever seen. Black seemed to be a theme for him because of the black empty eyes and midnight hair that not even the moon could shine on. But he was very pale that I could swear he was a ghost.
He seemed to be floating toward me and I unconsciously took a few steps backward.
"I'm not going to kill you," He said in a hypnotic tone. "I'm simply going to kidnap you."
"Better Death than going with you," I spat.
"Don't say it like that..." Another voice said and spat out of the shadows was a pink haired and golden eyed girl who eyed the dead bodies in distaste. "Why did you kill them? I thought we were adamant on not killing the Loverin family," she whined.
"They were not going to go easily. And you know Death, too random," he said with a smirk.
"But Jev!!!" The girl continued her whine, "You are Death!"
He frowned, "I prefer the Grim Reaper, or do you want to me to call you Life?"
"That's a boring name and I'm one of the many, Jev. It's Shine, and don't you forget it."
They forgotten that I am here, but my brain whirled with the new info, Jev, Death, Grim Reaper, Life, Shine...
Then, it clicked. This is the third chapter of the prologue where my parents die at the hands of these merciless and merciful angels.
Shine Pazz and Jev Thano, both from the fifth faction, Leteus of life and death, one of the trickiest things to deal with in any universe.
Shine Pazz, the rival to Jev and an angel of life. Omniscient, maternal and lovely, she's responsible for bringing souls into the veins of humans giving them life and a prophetess, circumstancing the future.
Jev Thano, opposite of Shine, an angel of death and truthfully Death himself for he earned the tittle of Grim Reaper thanks to his high kill count. A sociopath emo, callous cool and uncaring. He's also a pessimist but became slightly philosophical not to end up the brink.
So, knowing this info I had, I did the one thing that made sense to me.
I grabbed Jev by the collar and begged, "Kill me!"
"Woah, what did life do to you?" He asked, surprised.
I spread my hands. "Life. Death. You sound like you are personally acquainted with them. Or that you are the Grim Reaper himself, so just take me and send me to Heaven where I can forever rest!" I said. I can't believe I said my deepest desire but there you go.
Shine looked at me curiously, "How much do you know?"
"Enough that I don't want to live anymore," I said sadly, gesturing to my parents, "What else do I have?"
"Well, you can't die," I look at her shrewdly and she hastened, "I'm a... prophetess, my dear, and I can forsee people's futures. Some are not certain but one thing that is certain about your future is that you can't die, be it accident, murder or... suicide," she looked at me reproachfully when she used the word 'suicide' as if she knew what I was going to do, "No matter what, you are teetered to this life... until you completed the mission."
"Freak," I cursed, "What is the damn mission?!"
"I'm a prophetess doesn't mean I hold all the answers. Only God knows," she said.
"And you might see Him very soon when you come with us," Jev said, soft spoken.
"And what if I don't want to?" I asked.
The scythe was on my neck, "I didn't say it was a choice."
"Get a life," I scoffed, "You are taking for... what? A little fun?" At this point, I felt no fear. Only sheer disappointment that I can't get out of this the easy way. And meeting another capture target/ rival does not help me.
"Who do you think we are?" Jev demanded, eyes blazing, "We are taking you because you are needed."
"Needed for what?" I asked.
"You said too much," Shine scolded Jev, "Just take her and go."
Suddenly, my legs were lifted off the ground as I was tossed over Jev's shoulder like a burlap sack, "Hey!"
"Don't worry, you are light so won't drop you," he said lightly.
"You need a better sense of humour," I said, as I wiggled out of his grasp.
As they were about to getaway, the door banged open and I saw both Adam and Katya frazzled but OK.
"Let go of her," Adam demanded.
"Or what?" Jev mocked.
Adam was silent but actually body flipped Jev as Katya grabbed me and pushed me a safe distance away.
The boys were still fighting while us girls just looked on but between the dead bodies and surreal experiences of life, I just shouted, "STOP!!!"
Then, time might as well froze the hell over 'coz it was so still that I had to move my hand to see any reactions. When there was, I just said, "What in freak's sake is going on here?! What's this mad business/ conspiracy that's going on here?!" I knew, I just wanted them to admit it.
The 4 angels looked at each other like, 'Should she know?'
Then, I felt a thump at the back and blackness clouded my vision, "Sorry, but this ain't your business." That was from Katya and that was all I knew. What happened next was anyone guess, but with certainty, I knew the third chapter was over.
What's next?
