Chapter 10 - Dragon

(This is a short chapter, I think it is fitting though. This should be the last chapter in the "training" arc. Though we all know, training is never done. I hope you enjoy the chapter despite it not being a normal length!)

[Time until revival 1 Second]

I jolted awake immediately as the counter hit zero. I quickly searched my surroundings and realized, that the damn dragon is still here.

"HOW ARE YOU ALIVE! I scattered every cell of yours across space!" the dragon was shocked beyond belief. In all of his life, he has never come across someone who could live through his attacks.

"Hmm, well you did kill me so, you get a point for that at least!" I grinned towards the dragon while stating, "Due to a certain being I am no longer able to die! I warned you that this battle would take forever." I was smiling for a different reason, however, the reason being is I had gained a new resistance.

[Evolution complete, gained {Spatial Magic Resistance (E, 23%)}

'Notifications are handy aren't they?' I thought. The notification system I was able to set up will save me a lot of tedious status checking.

"Hmm, must have been one of the gods. Maybe the god of death?" the dragon seemed to be thinking out loud, forgetting that I was even here.

"A god, yes. The God of Death? Nah, never met him."

"Wait! YOU met the God that gave you this ability?" the dragon seemed shocked. Of course, you can't go to another world without supreme beings being shocked about your powers. That is a trope that needs to happen.

"Yeah, I met him, is that such a big deal? Didn't you meet the World God when he gave you his blessing?"

"No, I didn't. It is a BIG deal! Not just anyone can meet a god! They're damn gods, after all! They typically look down on beings like us."

"Hmm. The God I met didn't seem to look down on me too much, he almost seemed excited."

"Interesting. Gods aren't normally too keen on mortals. Mortals being people who live on this plane of existence, not people who can die. The term is a little bit more broad and different."

"Right... So, since you're not trying to kill me anymore. Could I ask some questions?" I'm hoping I can learn somethings about this world before I go to a town or something.

"Fine Mortal, I guess since I can't kill you I can answer your stupid questions." Despite my meeting a God and the Dragon being surprised, he still talks arrogantly.

"First of all, where is the nearest town? What races live there and if they aren't human, do they have prejudices against humans?"

"The nearest town is to the northwest, the Kingdom of Estoral, the kingdom of elves. There are some small villages around but the majority are in the City of Estoral. They have poor naming sense, so they use the same name for the kingdom and its only city. Some elves may have prejudices against humans, Elves tend to be full of themselves, especially high elves, don't get me started with those idiots. The worst of them all is the Elven King. He allows humans in his country, but personally only thinks of humans as ants. He is said to have the power to back it as well, the equivalent of an S-Rank adventurer."

"Interesting seems like I will need to pay a visit to Estoral. Can I ask how ranks work? Also, can you briefly tell me what the hell this tree is?"

"Ah, Ranks of course. Ranks judge the overall ability of a person, using a status orb we can figure out the overall stats of the person using the orb. This will automatically put them into a category. Although two people can be S-rank doesn't mean that one isn't better than the other, all S-ranks are not equal, considering one could be a magician and one could be a warrior. Not to mention stat differences."

The rankings go something like this.

S - 10,501 and above

A - 8,001 - 10,500

B - 5,001 - 8,000

C - 2,001 - 5,000

D - 501 - 2,000

E - 101 - 500

F - <100

Each number is the {Total Stats} stat within the {Status}.

"About the tree, it is called the {World Tree} you could think of it like a recycler for mana. When mana is used it goes back to its original state. This original state is what we call {World Energy}. {World Energy} is unusable to most people besides extremely powerful people or gods. Thus the tree takes this energy and 'Downgrades' it to mana. Making it less powerful but usable by near everybody."

With at least some knowledge at my disposal, I say goodbye to the dragon that killed me and headed in the direction of Estoral.
