Chapter 15 - The Soul

After killing the demon orc king, I decided to quickly head back as I sensed some A and S-Rank auras coming up behind me. The auras were walking fairly casually, but I didn't want any trouble. They must be the adventurers that took the quest, they will be fairly disappointed when they find out about my massacre.

I quickly head back to the city and walk to the inn. I am not sure what else I want to do today, but meditating always helps me figure it out. Plus, I haven't spent much time recently meditating. I need to get used to the influx of mana that I get from absorbing monsters, or it isn't as effective.

Once I was fully in a meditative state, I had noticed something weird. Something was off, It felt weird and I couldn't quite put my finger on it. I think about it, and decide that the feeling was something unimportant, so I continued to meditate.

After what I assume to be a couple of hours, I opened my eyes. What I saw around me was black, infinite black in every direction.

What the fuck!?! How the hell! Did I die again!? Thoughts raced through my head, bombarding me with things along the lines of 'How the hell are you so stupid. You didn't even know you died.' I quickly composed my self. Even if I was dead, there was no use for panicking.

I looked around the void once again and I noticed something different. A cage, and some kind of purple matter inside of it. I walked up to the cage and noticed that the cage seems to be incredibly sturdy despite many cracks within the surface of the cage.

Within the cage was something indescribably beautiful. The best way to put it would be the beauty of chaos. Purple matter of varying degrees of darkness, swirling about. With white dots within the purples mass. It felt inconceivably oppressive, despite the cage keeping it in place. The purple mass was constantly moving. The white dots, blinking in and out of existence.

It looked as though the whole universe was inside this purple mass. When I looked at the purple mass, I could feel a faint connection to it and I could feel its power. The only word to describe such power is infinite.

As I continued to gaze into this mass, something clicked within my head. More cracks appeared on the cage, the cage still not budging an inch. This purple mass was my soul, or at least I think it is. After gazing into what I believe to be my soul, I realize that I am still just a frog in a well.

I have a long time to go before I can move about freely. I have a long time to go to figure out what the hell that God wants with me. Why he reincarnated me, and why he gave me such overpowered powers.

If I've learned one thing in life, it's that everything comes with a price. I'm just scared to find out what that price is. Anyways, the real question is how the hell do I get out of here?

As soon as I said 'Get out of here' the space around me folded, and was engulfed in bright light. I forcefully stared into it, burning my retinas. Eventually, the pain subsided and the light wasn't as hard to look at. A few seconds after that the light faded and I was back in the Inn room.

I'm not sure why I was brought there, or how I got there. Maybe, it was something I did? I sat on the floor pondering for a bit, but I couldn't think of anything. There must have been a reason for suddenly going into that place.

It's almost as if the universe is constantly trying to remind me that I need to get stronger. I wonder if it's due to God or if it's just how this world works. Either way, I don't have much of a choice. I need to get stronger.

As I was thinking, I suddenly heard the scuttling of feet coming down the hallway. 10 people from the auras I'm seeing, all of them are peak A-Rank. The scuttling continues until they reach my door. There is a moment of silence before, they begin rapping on the door.

"Open the door now! Otherwise, we will be authorized to use force!" A voice of a man boomed from the other side of the door. I quickly stood up and walked to the door opening it.

"Alright alright, just stop the incessant noise." I calmly state while staring down the men in military uniforms. 'Aw, fuck. This can't be good,' I thought.

"The law dictates that you will have to come with us. There is a warrant for your arrest human, so I suggest don't struggle." The man motioned to the man standing directly to his right. The man stepped forward and pulled out some handcuffs. They had engravings on the cuffs, which I presume to be enchantments or something along the lines. I decided to use {Inspect}.

[Disruption Cuffs:

When these cuffs are put on someone, they are unable to use magic and mana. It greatly reduces strength (65% decrease).

Grade: A

Durability: 1000/1000

Enchantments: Magic Nullification, Strength Debuff]

Eh, it doesn't matter. I can't use magic anyways. The strength debuff should be overcome by my evolution if I put them on for long enough. I put my hands out in front of me, gesturing that they can cuff me. The man swiftly puts the cuffs around my wrist. They lead me out of the inn and towards the giant castle in the distance.
