Amanda wandered around her place a while, tidying up whatever was out of place, trying to pass the time as it was still too early to leave for work. Her mind would occasionally think back to the dream she had the night before.
Deciding that staying in her apartment was only making it worse she picked up her hand bag and wore her shoes by the door and walked out.
Amanda walked down the passage and noticed how the ongoing renovations were already taking shape. Mrs Clocksworth owned four floors from the fifth and up of the building. The carpeting, ceiling, wall paper and new lighting had been completed on the fifth and sixth floor of the building. Only the seventh was still to be finished, and that was were Amanda's apartment was.
By the time she had used the elevator to get to the first floor and was out on the walk street, Amanda realised just how early in he morning that it was. There was hardly any one out, so instead of heading straight for the train station like she normally would on a work day, she walked into her favorite coffee shop that was along the way.
She never came here often even though it was her favorite place because the early morning rush for coffee got people lining up all the way outside the store, getting a cup and catching the train in time to get a seat was next to impossible. Today, however,She was early enough to have found only two people ahead of her in the line.
Amanda let the smell of freshly ground coffee fill her nostrils. She was greeted by the waitress who she was familiar with and after that ordered her usual latte. After that she got onto the rain after waiting for five minutes on the platform and took a seat near to the door.
Amanda noticed that the train ride which usually felt like it took fifteen minutes everyday, actually took only seven. Time really was generous when a person wasn't rushing, she thought to herself.
All the way her coffee warmed her fingers the whole way and by the time she arrived at work it was exactly thirty minutes past six the expressions that greeted her where a mix of pure happiness that she was well and back, pretense of the same and hard core ice cold stares from the witch and her coven of obedients.
Suzy rushed to her and gave her a bear hug.
"It great to see you Amy, the truth is im supposed to scold you for being here a day early but I cant help it, the darl energy in here is so much that one could suffocate imediately upon coming in. We gave so much to catch up on but right now there is a new project in everyone's hands..."
You could always found on Suzy to update you on everything old, future and all those in-between.
Just hen Mr. Adrian walked in and after handing out the assignments for the day to those that had completed the ones they had before turned to walk out.
"Seems your grand entrance wasn't enough to call the attention back to you Amanda. Mr. Darson hasn't even considered you I bet he is already looking for a replacement to do that presentation and close the deal.Dont you?" Who else but the head witch herself. Christie spoke from behind both the women and this time Amanda didn't have time to waste on throwing a remark her way. She rushed out after Mr. Darson.
"I guess she suddenly realised that I was right after all. Humph."Christie took a sip of her coffee feeling triumphant.
Suzy who had had just about enough of this woman, turned to face her with arms crossed over her chest and wore a simple untroubled smile.
" Oh poor you Christie, you have to wait for someone else to be removed or drop out of the race in order to actually mame it in life. Tut tut tut... Well the good news is that your not the second choice for the upcoming presentation not even the third or fourth. It's a pity really, I mean here you are being all ambitious and playing your take when your not even in the picture. Pity."
Suzy both wore a satisfied smile when Christie's face showed signs of doubt, she knew she had managed to crack her shell.
" Suzy who do you think I am to believe your lies huh? There is no way you would know such information about whether or not I'm in consideration for the role of company representative for this deal. " Even as Christie spoke her voice had a nervous edge to it.
" Oh don't be so naive, a little birdie told me. What can I say if you know the right people and have good manners, like me, you just might learn a thing or two." With that finally remark Suzy walked away strutting in her high heals back to her cubicle and showing no sign being fazed by the exchange just now.
Amanda had managed to catch up with Mr Darson and when she called out to him and offered a greeting which he returned he seemed to have remembered something.
"Ms Walsh your not supposed to be in today, is something the matter?"
" No Sir it's just that I'm feeling better now and would rather be working than lazing the while day away at home." Amanda answered smiling sweetly.
" Ahh I see. Well i assume this means you are requesting and assignment for the day?" To this Amanda nodded. Mr. Darson picked a thin file from the few he had in hand, "Well then here you go. It's a small one and you should be able to complete it by the end of the day, that way I'll have time to talk you throught the extra details that I had prepared on the deal that you'll be closing."
Amanda had figured that since she had been out a couple of days that probably by the time that she was back they would have chosen someone else to complete the task that she had left.
" Does this mean you still want me to close this deal?"
" Well of course, who else? You are the only person that I know who has prepared for it so extensively. I read your drafts for the strategies that you planed to use and the fact that you emailed them to me when you where in hospital just shows how dedicated you are."
Amanda's face stretched into a smile and her eyes sparkled. Mr. Darson was never this kind to anyone of the interns and employees at times he usually greeted everyone as though they were disposable objects. This wasthe most touching hing he had ever done. He must have noticed her expression change because his tone turned strict again and it was back to business.
"Now don't feel too good about yourself it's also because the board had postponed the deal finalizations until this Wednesday so your lucky for that too. Now follow me we don't have all day."
This day may have started off a little rough but then it seemed to be looking up now.
