Amanda just got out of her work shoes and placed her bag down. She was almost regretting having gone back to work a day early because Mr Darson worked her to the bone, even more than he often did.
She was about to head toward the bathroom When she heard a knock at the door. It was well past eight in the evening, regardless she walked out and opened the door only to have a head with two pigtails and wild pink tips walk in faster than she could process. If she had the strength to process at all.
" Gosh what took you so long, do you like work night shifts at a mortuary or something?"
The little girl turned around fter she had walked in for the first time paying attention to the appearance of the person who opened the door.
Oh my you look terrible please dont tell me that my assumption is true because you do look the part, Eish." She fought off the rising shivers in her body.
" Aren't you supposed to be asleep by now. Just because your father is away doesn't mean you get to miss bedtime-"
Amanda was going to continue lecturing her but her eyes which were already slipping closed bulged out of their sockets when she saw what Rachael had brought in with her.
" Rachel what are those?" Her finger shivered as she pointed at the pile behind the young girl. Her sleeping bag, favorite doll and a pillow.
" Oh that, I decided I wanted to stay here with you tonight, Miss Lily said it was okay and besides I bring you great news one off the most purpose giving pieces of information."
'Not today please not today.' Amanda thought.
Rachael's father travelled pretty often he was a great father true and he loved his kid more than anything. When he was away the rest of them on the floor offered to keep an eye on his daughter by alternating babysitting duties, which was never a problem but today wasn't Amanda's day and she wasn't prepared one bit. Racheal could be a hand full at times, and today seemed like the most hyper she had ever been.
However hard Amanda tried she couldn't bring herself to turn the girl away.
" So do you want the news or not?" Amanda had a ghostly face on and was instead debating the punishment for giving a kid under sixteen a the most effective sleeping pill dose.
" Earth to Amanda? Hello?" Rachael's voice echoed in the back of her mind.
" Rach? You have to promise me one thing, "
the girl hesitated but then nodded,
" Please no long conversations, just a short briefing and then bed okay?"
Racheal looked disappointed beyond and her puppy face came on. Racheal noticed the trick wasn't going to work because Amanda didn't budge one bit so the girl gave in and brightened up.
" I don't know why you keep a job which has the condition of an overbearing supervisor that works you to pulp. I mean if I were you I would....."
This wasn't the first time Racheal had talked of what she would have done if she were in Amanda's shoes.
Rachael's voice faded as she walked into the small kitchen as she was now suggesting that they have some Chilli chicken noddles, which she was able to make. Amanda smilled at having the young girls company. It brought life to a. home she dreaded coming back to today.
After a shower and a whole stomach full of chicken chilli noodles, Amanda appreciated the fact that she didn't turn Rachael back even more. By this time it was half past nine in the evening. Both Amanda and Racheal were in Amanda's bed dispite the young girl having brought over her sleeping bag. The ony thing she did side still from the bunch she brought was her snuzy pillow and her trusted sleep pal.
" ...So the new neighbor arrived and he is super gorgeous, doesn't talk much and might be a bit weird but still cute!" Amanda had her head propped up on one hand while she listened to all Racheal had to say. The conversation was supposed to start from what happened when she got home but somehow the story of her bossy classmate's fake drama mixed with the test she had which she might have flunked and the cleaners possible secrete spy identity which she believed to be true since he told her one day when they were waiting for a bus at the public bus stop came in and Amanda couldn't stop her. Eventually, thank goodness, she managed to explain in great detail her encounter with the new neighbor.
Through it all Amanda was surprised how she managed to stay awake and attentive. Maybe it was because around Racheal she was trying to be the big sister that the girl never had, or maybe Amanda was somehow trying to act the role that she wished her big sister, Amora had played in her life.
All the insecurities she had faced growing up around family but never truly attached to them. Never truly feeling their presence like she was supposed to.
"...So you and me have to -"
" No, no, no, no, no. That wasn't even a summary, it was all of it. I'm not playing a part in any of your stalking games.and it's. ed time now."
Amanda pinched the his nose playfully and turned to turn off the bedside lamp.
Hearing but not heeding to the girls pleas to continue the long conversation.
When both settled down Amanda couldn't help but thank Racheal for coming over. The girl was puzzled at first but recovered quickly and stated how no one could live without her. She didn't at all understand what Amanda truly meant. The two fell asleep and Amanda felt her mind become at ease.
Jason had received a call from his father during which he questioned only about the development of work that he had sent his son to achieve. At no point in the conversation did Mr. Kaid mention hearing of Jason's prolonged stay and conditions. Just like him to do such, never give a damn about his sons personal life as long as it never affected the welfare of the company
At first when Jason had the fight with his father that caused hime to come to city Y he had for s split while thought that deep down his old man did care for him as a son and not an object of benefit. After uncovering his true purpose however Jason felt no more than a puppet in a position play whose strings could be pulled at the will of the puppeteer.
After the call ended with a Curt goodbye Jason walked back to his bedroom and lay down in his covers and tried to get some sleep.
On the outside everyone knew him as cold and soulless, never forming attachments of that didn't affect the fate of JK Corporation. He laughed without humor to that conclusion of his nature. If he was cold as they said with no emotional attachments whatsoever then what was he doing here, trying to be someone he wasn't so that he could be accepted by a woman he hardly knew about aside from what had been in a file collected on her.
Of course he knew she lived in the apartment across from his, and the worst part was that the thought of seeing her the following morning made his heart react in a strange way. He wasnt naive towards what people said love felt like, he just never had the experience himself not in the slightest
All emotions are strong rage, grief, loneliness, these were emotions he was familiar with, but love or whatever it was he felt for the woman he met on a dark and cold night, it was unlike all the others. For Jason they were Unexplored in his capacity, foreign grounds.
