Chapter 11 - When I saw her

The marriage between Nobunaga and Nohime was decided quickly. The only reason for them to get married was to become allies. He had never seen her, or exchanged letters with her. But Nobunaga didn't want to get to know her. He had a vision, uniting Japan. And he didn't need any distractions. Plus, although they where allies at the moment, he knew the Saito clan would eventually turn on him, whenever he married their daughter or not. With the marriage he just bought himself some more time. He knew he had to be careful around her, it wouldn't surprise him if those bastards made a spy out of her, so they could strike when he was most vulnerable. He had already decided that he wouldn't like his official wife and wouldn't spent any time on her. He would do his duties as a husband, but that's it. He would sleep on the same futon with Nohime on the first night, and she can stay in the castle but that's it.

On the day of the wedding Nobunaga appeared calm and collected. On the inside he was furious, they had been waiting all day for this girl to show up. He just wanted to get it over with, but Nohime was still on her way. At twilight he got the message that his wife to be had arrived. He was pissed, he hadn't done any work the whole day because he had to wait for her. Everybody gathered in the big dining hall. Nobunaga sat on a cushion in the front of the room. Most of the guest were his warlords, important subordinates and politicians.

Finally the guest of honor arrived. When the moment was finally here, Nobunaga couldn't contain his curiosity. He looked at the girl that slowly walked to the althar. Even though she wore a veil, he could still see she was a beauty. Behind the thin cloth he saw her eyes wander across the room. Who does she thing she is that she doesn't have to pay attention to what is happening before her? He thought irritated to himself.

After the ceremony Nobunaga was quickly whisked away by his most trusted warlords to celebrate his wedding. He didn't care. He would much rather drink the night away with the people he thrusted with his life than spent the whole evening with his new wife. He knew for sure that she had heard all the stories about him and about what a tyrannical man he was, so he knew that it would be a hellish and awkward evening if he spent it with Nohime alone.

When all the sake in the castle was gone it was around midnight. His warlords had drank the most of it and Nobunaga was relatively sober. He straightened his kimono and made his way to the quarters of his wives. Right now there was only his legal wife, but he planned to collect a whole harem when he finished uniting Japan. He hoped Nohime was already asleep so he didn't have to talk to her or something. He was surprised to see a light on in the bedroom. He sighted and opened the sliding door. For a moment he thought he had turned to stone. Nohime sat at a desk in her sleeping attire. All the make up was gone from her face and her long black hair was combed till it was shiny. Since she didn't wear a veil, he could finally see her face clearly. She was breathtaking. Nohime had a widows peak what gave her face a heart shape and big eyes with a small birthmark under her right eye. Her lips were flushed pink color but he was most intrigued by her stare. She looked at him as if she wouldn't take crap from no one and wasn't afraid of anything.
