Chapter 16 - friends and foes

"I just can't believe it!" Rike-chan exclaimed angrily. Pretty quick the word spread that Mitsuhide a prostitute had given to Nobunaga and that he apparently gratefully accepted the gift.

"How can he do that? You are not even married for ten days and he only visited you once!" Lin-chan entered the ranting.

"I know this is unheard of and I would also like to see things differently. But watch your tongs, the walls have ears!" Masa-kun scolded the two younger maids. Harumi's maids were more disturbed about the newest resident of the castle than herself. Or at least, that's wat she told herself. She met the girl only once and hated her already. She had a weird feeling in the pit of her stomach. And not only was she angry at that whore, she was probably more angry with herself that she cared so much.

"I don't want to talk about her." Harumi said in a firm voice. She had better things to do than gossip about a play thing from het husband.

Harumi had found a pretty nice rhythm in her daily life within the castle. After breakfast she did some things that were required of her since she was the official wife of Nobunaga. Sometimes it was signing documents, other times she had to do weird hobbies that apparently all princesses did. Like flower arranging, embroidery, reading and other lame stuff. After that she would normally do something with her maids. Take a stroll, have some tea, talk or play games. After lunch she excused herself for an afternoon nap. Instead of napping she continued with her research to get back to her own time. She trusted her maids, but the fact that she came from the future and wasn't Nohime was something she couldn't share with anybody. At least now if someone were to find out her maids wouldn't be punished for being accessories. After her "nap" It was more reading and official business. And since her encounter with Hidemasa he came to visit every day in the late afternoon. In the last few days they had become good friends. Most of the time he brought some book about the art of warfare that they discussed together. He noticed immediately that Harumi was very smart and had a very good natural eye for strategy planning. And unlike all the old farts she actually listened to his ideas and understood where he came from. Harumi liked the company as well. Although she could just ga outside, there were always people around that kept an eye on her. That was far lesser in her own quarters but being cooped up in one room for the whole day gets boring very soon so she welcomed the fresh wind that was Hidemasa with open arms.

Harumi learned pretty quickly that, just like at home, alone time was very sparse. The only time she was alone was when she was sleeping or when she went to the library while her maids had work to do. Needless to say she always found the right time to go to the library so she could be alone for a bit. Thus far she didn't have any luck with finding documentation about time traveling. On the plus side, her knowledge in kanji got better day by day. She had to focus herself on every good point otherwise she would just collapse. Right now she was in the past for a little less than two weeks. She didn't want to think about her family because she would only get depressed. They would probably be out of their mind with worry, her picture would probably be shown on tv shows about missing persons. She didn't want to think about all the misery she put her family trough at the moment. It only made her feel guilty for something she didn't even do!
