Our main catcher is given to a dark god in a ritual because her people want the dark god to help them by wiping out an invading army.
Here is the catch: our main must be brought to the verge of death in this ritual for the dark god to cross the dark veil and temporarily possess her.
After the deal is made her body and soul are both now owned by this dark god to do with as he pleases with them.
