Chapter 8 - Dark Magic Wall

When I made it to the other side of the portal, I noticed that I was now in an open field where I saw most of the other participants standing over the corpses of the other future students.

I also saw a vampire bat that was carrying a magical screen fly around the battlefield displaying the number of student candidates that were still alive. The screen also read round one and had a timer. This told me that there was going to be more to this set of tests were about than just survival.

Even though I wanted to think about what other obstacles the school could have in store for me I knew that if I did not focus, I would die even before I became an official student.

As I looked around, I saw that nobody seemed to want to challenge me. I walked across the field and noticed that every person who came within ten feet of me ran away as soon as they made contact with my eyes.

The fact that I was being ignored enveloped me with rage. I truly wanted to fight someone in this active battle. People continued to run from me, and my rage continued to build up to a boiling point.

I chose to no longer wait for them to fight me. I decided that I should instead attack them myself so that I could taste the glory of battle once again.

"Now Hynroe please grow to your full size for me?" I asked my blood dragon as I looked into its eyes and petted it with my right hand sowing her a little bit more affection since I was said that affection would help maintain the contract with her. After all, I did not want to become one of those tamers who mistreated their companions and caused them to betray their master to ensure their survival.

Hynroe jumped off of me and landed on the ground where she grew to her true size. As she finished growing to her true size, I heard the sound of metal clashing and the active spells suddenly stopped.

My dragon lowered her head so that I could climb onto her back. After I did, I was able to feel it once again, I could feel the same level of fear and dread around me again as I had before the arena battles had begun.

"Now we will purge those who are unworthy of our attention. We will do whatever it takes to hasten this event."

"Yes, master we will show them the strength of a blood elf that tamed a blood dragon," Hynroe said to me as she ascended to the point where she was about twelve feet from the ground.

I noticed that most of the people that were now beneath me were just standing there staring as if they had never seen a flying dragon before.

"If they are going to just stand there like targets ready to be killed, I will allow you to show them why they should fear a blood dragon's power."

As soon as I spoke to her my dragon generated a dark red ball that seemed to have blood dripping from both sides as it floated in front of her.

Then the ball of blood scattered and I saw drips of blood fall from the sky. As the drips made contact with the bodies down below, I saw that they all started to scream in pain when giant red and black blisters started to form on their skin.

The blisters seemed to grow in size as well as color boldness with every passing second. After a bit of time, the blisters exploded, and the bodies of my former targets were now only pools of blood that caused the spell to refuel itself.

I noticed that there were a few of the students who stopped the blood rain from making contact with a variety of different skills. A few of them just outran the blood rain. Some of them seemed to swing their weapons at the drops to repel it. The final method that I saw was that a few of them created a magical barrier that covered their entire body. This seemed to completely protect them from my dragon's spell.

Before I could cast any spells of my own, I heard an elderly male voice throughout the sky.

"The first round is now complete. The time has expired. Those that are still alive please make your way towards the bright blue light that is in the center of the battlefield. After you walk into the light the second test will commence".

As soon as he spoke those words, I saw a beam of blue light off into the distance. That must be where I need to go to move on to the second trial.

I made my way to the light, and as I did, I dismounted my dragon.

"You may now return to your travel size. I thank you for what you have done on this day." I said as I petted Hynroe for serving me well.

She climbed onto my right shoulder then I walked through the portal knowing that I had passed the first trial, but I truly hoped that the next trial would be more challenging.

As I made it through the blue light, I noticed that I was no longer in an open field. I was now inside a stone room with a decent number of students. This room was massively open with a body of fast-moving, water in the middle. I saw two elderly vampires on the opposite side of the river; one of them was female and the other was a male.

On the side that I was standing I saw all of the students that were still in the event.

I saw that most of the future students were socializing amongst themselves instead of preparing for whatever the next trial would be.

"All right; now that you are done with the first round of the selection, we will begin the second round". The elderly male said.

After he spoke, I saw that he snapped his fingers, and the river in the middle of the room went still. Both of the elderly vampires walked across the still water until they were on the same side as the future students.

As soon as they crossed the river; the elderly female waved her right hand. When she did this, I saw a massive barrier that was moving along the river, and it was made entirely out of pitch-black energy,

"Now your final trial would be to get passed this wall of level one dark magic. If you cannot do this you are unworthy of being taught by such an elite school like us."

The vampires walked back over to the other side through the barrier with ease.

"You will only have one hour to get to this side of the wall. If you have not gotten to this side by then you will not be allowed into this school. Begin!!!!!" the male said as he and the female vampire sat down.

I chose to lean up against the wall and observe what the others did to get across.

The mages had no problem manipulating the magical wall enough to break through, but as soon as they did the wall instantly recovered to the point where nobody could use it as a means to follow behind them.

Then I saw the blood elf monk punch a path through as soon as the edges of her fists began to glow a bright white color.

Now that I had seen people get across, I chose to go through the wall on my own.

"Bend to my will," I said when I started to walk towards the magic wall.

My dragon passed through with ease and waited for me to make it there too.

As I approached the wall; I consumed a total of two drops of the blood in the vial that I had around my neck. Then my body became extremely elastic as I relaxed, and as I tensed up my body felt as hard as iron.

I then relaxed my body as I walked to the edge of the wall, and I was able to easily push through. This did not last long because I started to drift down the stream until I tensed my body, and I became unmovable.

I pushed through until I was on the other side. When I was there, I loosened my body so that I could make it through.

My dragon mounted on my right shoulder as soon as I had made it over to her.

I waited and noticed that most of the students were now able to make it over to this side in time.

"This trial is now over. Only those who have made it to this side are officially students at this academy. The rest of you will leave now"
