Chapter 9 - My Roommate

As I looked around, I noticed that only about eighty of the applicants had passed the trail and were each future competition in my journey to the top of the academy.

I also saw that the wall that was in front of me had a variety of different magical symbols that were generated on it. Going left to right, I saw a fire symbol, a water symbol, a lightning symbol, an hourglass symbol, the symbol of shadows, a symbol of shattered earth, a symbol of air, and finally, a question mark symbol.

"Since you have passed the entry trials, I can now divide you into four different houses. Each house will be competing throughout this year in a variety of different contests. The house that wins the most of the contests by the end of the year will choose a leader for them, and they will receive any one request as long as it is within the power of our current headmaster; it will happen."

After he spoke, I saw that the female vampire walked over to the first student, and she started to scan their bodies after she had drawn a magical circle. Just before scanning the first student, I heard her say, "Apprise."

The aura of the magical circle started clear and see-through, but as it scanned the first student, I saw that it changed into a light red color.

"Since the color of the appraisal magic has turned red then you are a fire magic user. Please get in the section of the rear wall with the fire symbol on it." She said to the first student after she finished scanning them.

I saw them move toward the fire section of the wall, and as they did, I noticed that the fire symbol began to glow brighter.

The female vampire continued to scan all of the students one at a time. After she scanned them, they each moved to their appropriate section. By the time she walked over to me, I noticed that all of the sections had at least three students except for the section that had a question mark on it. That section was empty.

When she scanned me with the appraisal magic, I noticed that the magical circle turned a bold red, then it shifted to a black color and finally turned silver.

"What does that mean since your scan of me has changed into multiple colors?" I asked her out of surprise at what had just happened.

"This means that you have forgotten the art of magic. Please line up within the area with the question mark symbol." She said to me as she started to walk over to the next student.

I walked over and observed all of the other students that were being divided. It took her over one hour to finish appraising and dividing all of the students into their appropriate category. After that was done, I only had six other students in the same section as me.

"Now that you have all been divided into your appropriate categories you can leave this building. You will first get settled in your dorms. You will find your room number on the back of your registry papers. The people who are in the same current line as you will be living in the same dorm building as you. They will also be your partners in our many contests throughout your years here as a student."

After he finished speaking, I saw a section of the wall in front of me. This pathway was wewell-litsing a dark blue source of lighting that made everything around me look blue.

I was able to notice that the blood elf monk had also been put in the same group as me. The thought that I would be able to work with some of the same race as me made me fifeelomewhat relaxed, but I was not going to be betrayed by another blood elf if it iswashe last thing that I dodido ensure my path to revenge.

As I made it out of the long hallway, I noticed that the sky was a dark purple with occasional dark red streaks of lightning. In front of me I, saw a large group of students standing there as if they were waiting to ambush us as we made it out of the trials.

The students in front of me had on white robes and they started to chant over and over again.

"Come join us at the order of Shane's Light. After you become a child of Shane you will be empowered like never before." The male of the group ths clleader of this cult dubecausee had five yellow stars tattooed on his head.

As soon as he spoke. I saw a decent number of the new students flock over to them as if they were being hypnotized. I was not able to resist it very well because of the fresh drops of blood that wawereo longer coursing through my veins from when I passed through the barrier of dark magic.

When I started to apapproachhe group, it took every ounce of resistance to drink two drops of blood from the vial that was around my neck. As I drank the fresh drops of blood, I could feel my mind's ability to resist the influence of others. Now that I was free of the hypnotic influence, I was able to walk away from the group, and I made my way to the building that I would be staying in for the next few years.

The dorm had a shattered white question mark on the outside. waThe wallhs colored black. I saw that there was a statue in the front of the building. The statue was of a dark elf that was wielding what seemed to be a type of gravity magic on a human warrior.

I went past the statue, nd into the dorm h,oping that I would be paired with a dedecentoommate thwhoould be easier to get along with. If this being was going to be a nightmare to live with for the next few years I may have to bring their lives to a very swift end.

There wewas moderate number of students gogoingn and out of the building as I was looking at the statue.

I looked onathe back of my papers, and I saw that I was assigned to room 147. As I made my way toside ofe dorm, I noticed that the first floor of the building was very basic in design w,ithout even having a library or a garden for food ingredients. At the ends of the hallways haweretairs that seemed to look nicer and better upupkeeps I made it to a higher floor. When I walked up to the second floor, I was stopped by an older student thwhoid not allow me to pass by him.

"This floor is off limits to our first-year students. You must earn the right to enter this floor by passing the first year of magical schooling".

After he said that I, chose to return to the first floor since I did not want to make any fifirst-daynemies thwhoere of a higher class ththane.

I made my way to my dorm room, and I noticed that my roommate was already there waiting onfore. It was the blood elf monk, and it both excited me and pissed me off.

The female blood elf monk rushed over to me, and she pinned me to the wall by the main door to the dorm. I could feel her rate of breathing change, and her fists started to glow white as she placed itthemn my neck.

"All you need to know is that you need to not mess with me in any way. I am not here to be your friend I am here to restore honor to the temple that I lost as a child. If you get in the way of my goals, I will end your life myself." She said to me as she let go of me, and I looked at my roommate wondering what was going to be in store for me in the near future.

Would the fact that I was a member of the same species help me or hinder me in my quest for power, prestige, and revenge?
