"Mummy is going to work my loves but tomorrow is Saturday, I took permission from work to stay at home tomorrow. I will have all the time tomorrow to have fun with you guys." I squatted in front of my kids with a big smile plastered on my face.
George's face broke into excitement. He squealed and plastered a small kiss on my cheek. "Yay mummy, I love you so much." He beamed. Mira on the other hand pecked me on the cheek and said "We know you are always busy at work mummy so you do not have to feel angry at yourself." Mira smiled at me.
She was the sweetest and it felt like she was older than George. At her age, she was already this smart. Mira did well in her classes.
"But I am looking forward to spending time with you mummy." Mira joined her brother in squealing. Well of course, she could be naive sometimes too. I rose to my feet and bid them goodbye, including Britney and her kid.
Britney decided to walk me to the car parked outside, I knew she had something to say. "So, remember what I told you right?" She chirped in.
I nodded my head in agreement and repeated "To be careful of how I discuss my private life at work. Got it ma'am, I am very much aware of that." I said with a slight sarcasm just to lighten up the athmosphere. Britney was taking things too serious, although I understood that it was for my own good.
"What did you and Raymond talk about yesterday?" Britney paused to sigh. "He must miss the twins so much, right?" She asked.
I nodded my head in agreement with a small smile. I missed Raymond and i could not wait to see him soon. I missed how complete the family used to be, I wanted that to happen again. I suddenly wanted to fill that void again.
"Yeah, he misses us so much." I said.
"So cute. I am very glad that you have someone like Raymond in your life." Britney's conversation was beginning to get cheeky and I wanted to escape the conversation.
"Bye. See you and the kids later " i hopped into the car and waved Britney goodbye. I drove out of the parking lot and made my way to work. The drive to work was quick. I arrived on time and I met Lawrence in the parking lot leaning close to his car. He was already feeling a lot more better. I guess all he needed to do was visit the hospital a few times for treatment.
Lawrence looked deep in his thoughts that he had not noticed me walk past him. I sighed in relief and bumped into nurse Eunice. Shebowed her head at me and tried her possible best to avoid eye contact
"We need to talk." I snapped at her. I paused to scan the hallways. This was not a perfect place to have such a discussion like this with her so I ordered her. "Follow me to the office." I snapped at her.
"Doc, I am really sorry. I---" I interrupted her with a loud scoff. "Just do as I say and follow me to the office." I repeated in a much more cold tone. Eunice nodded her head at me and allowed me lead her to my office.
I pushed the door open and ushered her inside. I slammed the door behind her and turned to give her a deep scowl.
"What happened yesterday was an abomination Eunice, I could have sworn that I expected better from you." I yelled at her. I clenched my fist tight and mentally scolded myself to remain calm. There was no point in taking things harshly, Eunice would only get the wrong idea.
"I swear Doc, I never thought it would escalate in that manner. I just thought he had a sincere crush on you and I made it clear to him that you had kids. I did not think he would pretend to be going through pains just to gain you attention." Eunice raised a hand at me in surrender.
She seemed to be telling the truth. I could sense so much sincerity in her tone. She meant no harm actually and if Lawrence had just been a normal patient then there would have been nothing wrong in telling him that I had kids.
I do not think Britney's theory is correct, Lawrence did not bribe Eunice to spy on me or any of such. "Look Eunice, I just want you to be more careful with the way you share my information, I mean literally any doctor's information to random patients. Some of them can end up posed to be threats. It is why it is our duty to act professional about things." I said in a calm tone.
Eunice nodded her head at me and mumbled another apology.
"Also, what was really your business about the patient having a crush on me. You seemed so concerned about it. Why?" That was the only thing that seemed so suspicious. Why did Eunice care about Lawrence's supoosed crush on me?
Eunice fiddled with her hands and smiled shyly. "I wanted him to crush on me instead. I mean, he is a very attractive man an---" i interrupted her with a wave.
I shuddered at her description. Eunice was allowed to crush on Lawrence as long as I was not involved in it. "I think I have heard enough, you may leave." I pointed to the door. Eunice bowed her head at me one last time before she finally walked out of the office.
I sighed heavily and threw myself comfortably on the couch. I buried my palms in my face and I felt a slight of relief wash over me. Lawrence was gone from the hospital and would only return casually for treatment, it meant I would not be seeing him so often. I had handled Eunice, everything was slowly falling in place for me.
I looked forward to what the rest of the days would be like.
