Chapter 34 - Chapter 34: The Battle Begins

10 POWER STONE LETS GOOOO

_____________

The Ranger team moved swiftly through the dense bush of Viridian Forest, their steps light yet urgent. The air was thick with tension, every rustling leaf and snapping twig amplifying the anticipation.

They had one chance to stop Team Rocket before they run away.

As they approached the clearing, Zen saw it, the camp was nearly packed up. Crates of stolen supplies were being loaded onto makeshift carts, and cages full of captured Pokémon rattled as they were hurriedly moved. The grunts were restless, shouting orders to one another, clearly in the final stages of their retreat.

Ray raised a hand. The signal.

"Attack!"

Like a storm breaking loose, the Rangers charged in.

Poké Balls flew through the air, bursting open with flashes of light. Pokémon of all shapes and sizes emerge, psyduck, sandslash, Pidgeot, gloom, each Ranger commanding their partner into battle.

The clearing erupted into chaos.

"Hold the line! Don't let them scatter!" Ray barked, his Machamp already smashing through a group of Rocket Pokémon with sheer brute force.

Zen stuck close to Asahi and John, moving cautiously behind them while keeping Kakuna and Ledyba on guard.

A Zubat swooped down, screeching. John's Fearow shot up like a missile, slamming the bat Pokémon with a brutal Wing Attack.

An Ekans lunged, its fangs glistening with venom, but Asahi's Pidgeot knocked it away with an Air Slash.

Zen barely had time to react before two Rocket grunts suddenly turned toward him.

They each threw a Poké Ball forward.

A Rattata and an Ekans emerged, their eyes gleaming with aggression.

Zen's pulse quickened.

"Ledyba, take the Rattata! Kakuna, handle the Ekans!"

Both Pokémon responded immediately.

The Rattata wasted no time, dashing forward with surprising speed.

"Quick Attack!" the grunt ordered.

Ledyba barely dodged, fluttering into the air as the Rattata zipped past like a purple blur.

Zen gritted his teeth. It's fast. Too fast for direct hits.

"Ledyba, use Swift!"

Golden stars shot out from Ledyba's wings, cutting through the air and striking Rattata from above. The small rodent squealed, stumbling back.

The grunt growled. "Bite it!"

Rattata leaped, fangs bared.

But Ledyba was ready.

"Bug Bite!"

Ledyba caught Rattata mid-air, sinking its small but strong mandibles into its side. The Rattata shrieked in pain before collapsing.

Meanwhile...

The Ekans moving with fast speed, "Poison Sting!" the second grunt yelled.

The snake lunged, fangs glowing with toxic energy.

"Harden!" Zen called.

Ekans' fangs sank into Kakuna's hardened shell, but didn't pierce through.

The grunt's eyes widened. "What?!"

Zen's mind raced. Kakuna can't move much… but it can turn as hard as he can.

"String Shot! cover its face!"

Thick strands of silk shot out, wrapping around Ekans' head, blinding it.

The snake thrashed wildly, unable to see.

Now's my chance.

"Harden again, then Tackle!"

Kakuna launched itself forward, body hardened like a rock, slamming into the confused Ekans.

The impact sent the snake tumbling. It lay still, knocked out cold.

Zen exhaled sharply. He did it.

But he couldn't celebrate yet.

The fight around him was still raging.

Rangers battled fiercely, holding the line, but Team Rocket wasn't giving up easily. More Pokémon were being released, and despite the Rangers' best efforts, some of the grunts were already trying to flee.

Ray's voice cut through the chaos.

"DO NOT let them escape! Hold your ground!"

The battle raged on.

The Viridian Rangers fought fiercely, their well-trained Pokémon swiftly taking down the Team Rocket grunts one by one. These criminals were nothing but cannon fodder, they had numbers, but no discipline, no strategy.

Ray led the charge, his Machamp tearing through opponents with its four powerful arms. Each punch sent a Rocket Pokémon flying.

But then, a figure in black stepped forward.

Unlike the grunts, its can be clearly seen his diffrent from other. His uniform was sleek, more refined, and the way the grunts looked at him confirmed it, he was no ordinary Rocket.

A high-ranking officer.

Ray's sharp eyes locked onto him. "So, you're in charge here."

The Rocket officer smirked. "More than just this little operation. But you don't need to know that, Ranger."

He threw a Poké Ball forward.

"Arbok, strike."

A massive purple cobra materialized, its hood flaring wide, revealing an intimidating pattern.

Ray didn't hesitate.

"Machamp, let's end this fast."

Arbok lunged first, its fangs dripping with venom.

"Machamp, Karate Chop!"

Machamp's four arms moved like blurs, striking in rapid succession. Each blow connected, sending shockwaves through Arbok's body.

But the Rocket officer was calm.

"Glare."

Arbok's eyes gleamed red.

Machamp froze. Its muscles locked up, paralyzed.

Ray's jaw clenched. "Shake it off! Use Cross Chop!"

Machamp pushed through its stiffened muscles, forcing itself to move. It raised both arms in an X-shape, ready to deliver a devastating hit.

Too slow.

"Poison Jab."

Arbok struck first, its tail coated in deadly purple toxins.

The impact sent Machamp skidding backward. Its body trembled before...

THUD.

Machamp collapsed. The poison had done its job.

Ray's hands tightened into fists.

"You're good," the Rocket officer admitted. "But not good enough."

Ray smirked. "We'll see about that." He grabbed another Poké Ball.

"Primeape, let's go."

The Rocket officer raised an eyebrow. "You're still at a disadvantage."

He released his second Pokémon, a massive Tentacruel.

Ray now faced two powerful Pokémon alone.

But he didn't back down.

Primeape snarled, pounding its fists together, eyes burning with fury.

"You'll regret this," Ray growled. "Primeape, Close Combat!"

Primeape charged forward, fists flying. It unleashed a relentless barrage of punches, kicks, and elbow strikes, battering Arbok with sheer force.

Arbok recoiled, its body slamming into a tree. It wasn't down, but it was weakened.

Tentacruel took advantage.

"Hydro Pump."

A powerful blast of water shot out, hitting Primeape dead-on. The force sent Primeape flying across the battlefield.

Ray gritted his teeth. He needed backup, fast.

Asahi and John had just finished taking down the last of the grunts. Other rangers also done with team rocket grunt.

They turned toward Ray, seeing him struggling against two strong Pokémon.

"We're with you, Captain!"

Ray smirked. "About time."

The Rangers surrounded the Rocket officer.

The tide of battle had shifted.

The Team Rocket captain stood tall, his three Pokémo, Arbok, Tentacruel, and newly released Haunter, holding their ground against the Rangers.

Even with their numbers, the Rangers struggled.

Ray's Primeape fought fiercely, but it was the only one able to deal real damage. The other Rangers' Pokémon barely made a dent to Tentacruel. Worse, Haunter's Ghost-type abilities countered almost everything thrown at it.

Ray's voice rang out. "Poliwrath, get in there!"

A Poké Ball burst open, revealing a muscular Poliwrath, its fists clenched tight.

Lara stepped forward, her Jynx by her side.

"Enough of this! Rangers, attack!"

The Rangers' Pokémon rushed in together, launching a full assault.

Flames, water, wind, and electricity surged across the battlefield

Nothing worked.

Tentacruel's barrier of tentacles blocked everything.

Haunter cackled as it phased through attacks, countering with eerie Shadow Balls that sent Pokémon sprawling.

Arbok moved like a phantom, weaving between attacks and striking with venomous fangs.

From the shadows, Zen watched as he finished tying up the defeated grunts.

He knew the truth, he couldn't do anything here.

Neither Kakuna nor Ledyba stood a chance against these Pokémon.

His fists clenched. He hated feeling useless.

Then, the battle stretched on.

What felt like hours passed. The sun dipped beyond the horizon, the sky darkening into night.

And finally...

Arbok and Tentacruel collapsed.

The Rocket captain cursed under his breath.

The victory came at a cost.

The Rangers lay on the ground, exhausted.

They had no strength left.

Only Ray and Lara remained standing.

Their Pokémon Primeape and Jynx, were the last ones still fighting.

And Haunter…

Haunter was still there.

Floating silently, its purple body flickering like a ghostly flame. Untouchable.

The final battle was about to begin.

"Heh… I never thought there'd be two Ranger captains in Viridian City." His voice was amused but sharp, as if calculating his next move.

Ray wiped sweat from his brow as he say

"You should've done your research before messing with this us forest ranger."

Lara scoffed, crossing her arms. "Too late to regret it now."

The Rocket captain's smile never stop.

"Regret?" He chuckled, snapping his fingers. "No… I never intended to win."

Haunter let out an eerie cackle, its body flickering like a phantom flame.

Ray's Primeape lunged, its fists glowing white with Thunder Punch, aiming straight for Haunter's grinning face.

But, the attack phased right through!

"Damn it, it's too fast!" Ray growled as Primeape skidded back, looking around wildly.

Lara's Jynx waved its arms gracefully, releasing a burst of psychic energy, Confusion!

The attack locked onto Haunter, distorting the air around it.

But Haunter suddenly vanished into the shadows.

It reappeared behind Jynx.

"Look out!" Ray shouted.

Shadow Ball!

A dark sphere of energy crashed into Jynx's back, sending the Ice/Psychic Pokémon tumbling forward.

Lara clenched her fists. "Jynx, get up!"

Jynx shivered but quickly floated back up, her eyes glowing dangerously.

The Rocket captain watched.

"Interesting. You two are strong. But…" He checked his watch.

"I've stalled you long enough."

Ray's eyes widened. "What?"

Before anyone could react, Haunter let out a deafening screech, sending out waves of darkness.

If they look carefully in the dark, the rocket officer holding somesort of glass tube. But to bad the forest already in the darkness of the night.

A smokescreen of shadows erupted, covering the entire battlefield in black mist!

Lara and Ray coughed, struggling to see through the thick haze.

Then, silence.

The mist faded.

And the Rocket captain was gone.

Only Haunter's eerie laugh echoed in the distance.

Ray clenched his fists. "Damn it… he got away."

Lara sighed, rubbing her temples. "We let their leader escape. That's going to bite us later."

Zen, who had been watching from the sidelines, finally exhaled.

He had never felt so powerless.

Even though the Rangers won, he realized how far he still had to go.

Ray turned to Lara. "We need to secure the area and call for reinforcements. Team Rocket won't stay quiet for long."

Lara nodded, then glanced at Zen.

"Kid, you did good today."

Zen didn't answer right away. He looked down at his Poké Ball, where Kakuna and Ledyba rested.

He had survived.

But was survival enough?
