A week had passed
Today was the day everyone had been waiting for, the battle between Mr. Stone and Giovanni.
As Zen walked through Viridian City, he noticed a buzz of excitement in the air.
Posters of the match were everywhere, people were chatting excitedly, and for the first time in years, the Viridian Gym was completely open.
A huge crowd had gathered outside.
As Zen made his way inside, he was hit with the sheer amout of people in the place.
The Viridian Gym was packed, hundreds of spectators filled the stands, all waiting for the battle to begin.
Zen spotted Rock immediately, standing near the front, his arms waived.
"Zen! Over here!"
Zen walked over and noticed another familiar face standing beside Rock.
It was Tron.
Zen blinked in surprise, the last time he saw Tron, he run after zen defeated him.
Now? Unlike before now He looked more mature, standing tall with his hands in his pockets.
"It's been a while, Zen," Tron greeted with a nod.
Zen nodded back. "Yeah. You seem… different."
Tron smirked. "Of course. I've been training nonstop."
Rock chuckled. "He's been obsessed with training ever since he lost to you."
Tron rolled his eyes. "Shut up."
Zen smiled at their banter before looking around the gym.
That's when he noticed Ray standing in the middle of the battle arena.
"Wait… is Ray the referee?" Zen asked.
Rock nodded. "Yeah. Since this is an official challenge match, The Pokémon League sent Ray as the judge, it should be enough as Ray was Ranger Captain"
Zen nodded. That made sense.
As Zen sit he then remember about Asahi and John who had a mission today. John was so mad when he found out he'd miss the match. He ranted about it for hours.
Zen chuckled, imagining John throwing a fit.
Zen turned his attention to the arena, taking a deep breath.
This wasn't just any match.
This was a battle between two of the greatest Ground, type Trainers in Kanto.
On one side was Giovanni, the strongest Gym Leader in Kanto, the former Pokémon Champion, the best ground type pokemon trainer in Kanto.
On the other was Mr. Stone, the best Ground-type Trainer under the Pokémon League, and someone strong enough to be allowed to challenge Giovanni.
Zen exhaled slowly.
This was going to be a battle unlike any other.
The battle of the decade.
And he was here to witness it.
----
The Viridian Gym was full with anticipation.
Hundreds of people packed the stands, their eyes glued to the arena.
This wasn't just any gym battle. This was history in the making.
The first to step onto the arena was Mr. Stone.
As soon as his foot touched the ground, a wave of cheers erupted from the crowd.
"STONE! STONE! STONE!"
Zen looked around, many of the people here clearly fans of Mr. Stone.
And yet…
The atmosphere shifted the moment the second man walked in.
Step. Step. Step.
With calm, confident strides, Giovanni entered the arena.
For a moment, there was silence.
Then, as if a storm had suddenly hit, the entire gym exploded with deafening cheers.
"GIOVANNI! GIOVANNI! GIOVANNI!"
Zen felt chills.
It was unbelievable, even though Mr. Stone was a great trainer, Giovanni's presence alone overwhelmed everything.
High above the arena, a special commentator's box had been set up.
Inside, two of Kanto's most respected figures sat behind microphones.
The first was Professor Oak, Kanto's most famous Pokémon researcher and former kanto champioj.
The second was General Alex, a high ranking officer in the Pokémon league.
Professor Oak leaned forward, his voice booming through the speakers.
"Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to today's historic battle!"
General Alex nodded az he continue.
"This isn't just any gym challenge. This is a battle between two of Kanto's strongest Ground-type Trainers. Today, we will witness a clash of titans."
Standing between the two trainers was Ray, wearing an official referee uniform.
He raised his hand.
"This is an official Gym Leader challenge! The battle will be a four-on-four match!, The first trainer to lose all four Pokémon will be declared the loser!"
He glanced at both trainers.
"Trainers, are you ready?"
Mr. Stone adjusted his gloves. "Let's do this."
Giovanni just smirked.
Ray swung his hand down.
"BEGIN!"
Mr. Stone grabbed his first Pokéball and threw it high into the air.
"Rhydon, go!"
A massive Rhydon landed on the battlefield, letting out a thunderous roar.
The ground trembled under its weight.
The crowd gasped, Mr. Stone was starting with his strongest Pokémon?
"Interesting choice," General Alex commented. "Most trainers save their strongest Pokémon for last."
But Giovanni didn't look worried at all.
With a small smirk, he casually tossed his Pokéball.
"Come, Rhyhorn."
A large Rhyhorn materialized on the battlefield.
Despite being the pre-evolution of Rhydon, it stood confidently, eyes locked onto its opponent.
The difference in their evolutionary stage was clear, but Giovanni's expression showed no concern.
Prof Oak and Sir alex dont look that shocked as other people.. as they know just how strong Giovanni..
Most spectetor questning Giovanni choice of pokemon
Ray raised his hand.
"Rhydon vs. Rhyhorn! Battle start!"
Mr. Stone was the first to act.
"Rhydon, use Earthquake!"
Rhydon stomped its foot down hard, the ground beneath them split apart, sending a devastating shockwave across the arena.
The force was immense, even Zen, sitting in the stands, felt the tremors.
But Giovanni remained calm.
"Rhyhorn, counter it with Bulldoze."
Rhyhorn charged forward, slamming its feet into the ground.
A wave of energy spread out, absorbing the Earthquake's impact.
The two forces clashed, sending dust flying everywhere.
Professor Oak nodded in approval.
"Amazing. By using Bulldoze at the right moment, Rhyhorn was able to neutralize much of Earthquake's damage."
Stone frowned. "let's see you handle this. Rhydon, use Hammer Arm!"
Rhydon charged forward, its massive arm glowing with energy.
The attack was devastatingly strong, if it landed, it would surely crush Rhyhorn.
But Giovanni simply raised an eyebrow.
"Use Rock Polish."
In an instant, Rhyhorn's body gleamed, moving twice as fast as before.
The massive Hammer Arm swung down, but Rhyhorn was gone before it could land.
Zen's eyes widened. "He dodged?!"
Rock clenched his fists. "No way… Rhyhorn.. he getting faster."
Giovanni smirked. "Now, use Horn Drill."
Rhyhorn rushed forward like a bullet, its horn spinning at high speed.
Mr. Stone's eyes narrowed. "Rhydon, block it!"
But Rhyhorn was too fast.
The spinning horn slammed directly into Rhydon's chest.
For a brief second, the entire gym fell silent.
BOOM!
A shockwave exploded across the battlefield as Rhydon was sent flying backwards, crashing into the ground.
A cloud of dust and debris filled the air.
Zen held his breath.
When the dust settled, the answer was clear.
Rhydon wasn't getting up.
Ray raised his hand.
"Rhydon is unable to battle! Rhyhorn wins!"
For a moment, there was stunned silence.
Then the crowd erupted into cheers.
GIOVANI!!!
GIOVANNI!!
GIIOOOOVAAANNNNIIII!!!
Zen stared in shock. "He won… but Rhyhorn is just a pre-evolution of Rhydon!"
Professor Oak leaned forward. "This is why Giovanni is considered the best Gym Leader in Kanto. It's not just about power, it's about skill, strategy, and execution."
General Alex nodded. "And that was a perfect display of his abilities."
Mr. Stone took a deep breath and returned his fallen Rhydon.
Despite the loss, he smiled.
"Heh. Looks like this won't be easy."
Mr. Stone pulled out another Pokéball.
"Alright, then. Let's see how you handle this."
He threw the Pokéball into the air...
"ONIX, GO!"
The ground shook as a massive Onix emerged, roaring loudly.
The battle was far from over.
