Chapter 1 - New Life

The alarm clock buzzed with great intensity as it rang throughout the room.

Yawn...

A hand reached out for the alarm clock. The hand kept searching for it, but ultimately failed. The man hesitantly sat up, yawned again, slowly opened his eyes, and searched for the noisy alarm clock.

It was on a small desk beside him. He turned it off. He got out of bed and stretched. He saw a large mirror sitting beside the bed.

At that moment, he finally realized something was amiss as it got him out of his half sleepy state.

What the...?! Is this really me?!

The man looked around, and he felt his heartbeat increase as his eyes widened.

This isn't my room! Where am I?!

The man slowly walked towards the large mirror while slightly trembling with fear.

This isn't my body! And my face!!! What is happening?!

The man immediately ran straight towards the windows, removed the curtains, and it was at this moment that he almost fainted out of shock and fear.

The world outside was filled with futuristic buildings, flying cars, neon lights, etc. Everything looked vibrant. There was even sunlight! He looked up, expecting to see the sky, but instead he saw a light-blue dome. He squinted his eyes, and saw that there were a large number of men and women in stylish, expensive suits carrying umbrellas.

What the hell...?! This is entirely different from Earth! C-Could it be... I "transmigrated"?! Or maybe... I went to the future... I, Clark Smith, transmigrated, or perhaps went to the future...?! Ugh, I've been reading too many novels...

He stepped away from the windows with trembling hands. He looked around once again in his "new" room, and saw an ID sitting on the desk. He approached it, picked it up, and read it carefully.

Donovan Volgard... Is that me? Is that this original person's name?

He put down the ID, and looked at himself in the mirror again.

He had medium-length brown hair, a sharp jawline, and a surprisingly above average face. He had green eyes. He also had a small stubble.

Calm down, Clark Smith. Calm down. Panicking won't do you any good. Okay... deep breaths...

Clark took deep breaths, trying to calm his body and mind. He looked at himself in the mirror once again.

This Donovan guy is more handsome than me, Clark Smith... But what the hell, man... I'm in a completely new world. No, calm down. Remember that one transmigration novel you've read... that's right! Lord of the Mysteries! I just have to stay calm, and recall what the protagonist did when he transmigrated...

...

Damn it! I forgot! It's been years since I've finished that novel! Why do I, a transmigrator, have such a bad memory?! No, no, I shouldn't call myself a transmigrator yet... I might've just been sent to the future or something...

Just then, a large holographic screen appeared in the middle of his room, as it showed Clark a few words.

MISSION BRIEFING:

TARGET WORLD: 843-Karlon-45

THREAT LEVEL: Moderate

OBJECTIVE: Eradicate four Annihiliths spotted near the capital city.

What? "Mission briefing"? What? Dimension... threat level... objective... What the hell?! What is—

At that moment, he suddenly felt a sharp pain in his head. He grunted as he fell to his knees on the floor.

Agh! What...

He saw scene after scene. Memories. He saw himself on a large table surrounded by friends. He saw himself walking with his friends. He saw himself fighting a monster with pitch-black crystals. He saw himself grieving his fallen comrade.

He felt Donovan's memories flow to his mind. He held his head with both of his hands, almost wanting to let out a scream because of the abnormal pain.

...

5 minutes later, he was sitting on the floor leaning on the side of his bed silently. He just witnessed all of Donovan's memories. From birth, to the moment Clark "transmigrated", ultimately replacing Donovan.

...I understand it now.

Through Donovan's memories, knowledge of the city poured into his mind. First off, he was currently inside a gigantic, massive city protected by a sphere-shaped barrier, which is the dome he saw earlier when he looked up. This city was currently located in space. Outer space. Second, this entire city is actually a space organization called "Umbrellas."

This space organization are "guardians" who have the ability to go to worlds throughout the cosmos, and its members are called "Visitors." Its members, Visitors, use their abilities to travel to other worlds to chase down an evil and invasive alien species, known as "Annihiliths," and use their magic-powered umbrellas to eradicate them. Annihiliths have the same ability as Visitors, being able to travel to other worlds. Annihiliths use this power to cause mayhem and destruction to the worlds they travel to, and they are the enemies of Visitors.

Visitors use their umbrellas to "teleport" to the worlds that are in need to save them from Annihiliths. It is the first and main ability an umbrella has. These umbrellas are powered by the energy of dying stars, and forged with metal also belonging to dying stars.

There are two general categories of Visitors, combat and non-combat, and six different specific class-types of Visitors: Fighters, Mages, Assassins, Tankers, Rangers, and Healers.

Fighters are Visitors who specialize in melee combat, striking a balance between offense and defense, and can adapt to a variety of combat scenarios. Mages are Visitors who specialize in sorcery and magic. Assassins are Visitors who specialize in both speed and close-range combat. Tankers are Visitors who specialize in defense. Rangers are Visitors who specialize in archery magic. Healers are Visitors who specialize in healing magic.

The moment a Visitor decides which class they want to be, the umbrella they are wielding will immediately and automatically be given powers to that of the class they chose. For example, a healer's umbrella will gain the ability to heal, a tanker's umbrella will gain the ability to create defensive buffs for their comrades, a ranger's umbrella will gain the ability to fire projectiles, etc...

I almost thought my brain would explode... That's too much information at once. Wait... Since I have the power to teleport to other worlds, does this mean I have a chance to go back to my home, my original world? I still want to play games, hang out with friends, and see my family. Alright, I've decided. My goal will be to return to my home... Hm... but it's also possible that this is an entirely different universe. After all, my home planet, Earth, has never been visited by Annihiliths before. I should get used to calling myself Donovan from now on. Yes, from now on... I'm Donovan...

Also, since I'm a "transmigrator," I should keep this a secret from everyone. Thankfully, I now have Donovan's memories. I know how to work as a Visitor, how to fight Annihiliths... And he's, no—I'm a Mage-type. I also know who my friends are... Oh, and using Donovan's memories, I know how he acts. He's the quiet, mysterious type... Ugh, I don't want to act like that. But if I don't, it'll be suspicious. Okay, one step at a time, Clark...

Donovan slowly got up, and walked towards his bathroom.
