Chereads / Umbrellas / Chapter 7 - Sylvia

Chapter 7 - Sylvia

"And what about you, huh? We haven't seen each other in a week!" Sylvia said as she took a bite of the sandwich.

My sandwich...

"Hm. I'm doing well."

I hope my acting is going well. Based on the original Donovan's memories, this is how he often responds...

"Well, that's good." Sylvia took another bite, and said with a smile, "Honestly, why won't you join my team?"

Sylvia's team... Right, a week before I transmigrated into this body, the original Donovan met Sylvia's team. Sasha, Paul, Vi, Harold...

"We need you, Donovan! You're a pretty good Mage-type Visitor. Perfect, because the only thing we're missing is a Mage-type!" Sylvia finished the sandwich after she said that.

A Visitor team often had 6 people, with each being a different class-type. Sylvia is a Fighter-type Visitor, and Visitors in this class are often the team leader.

Donovan sipped on his cup of coffee again. "I'm sorry, Sylvia. I told you, didn't I? I have other matters to worry about, and joining your team isn't in my book right now."

"Wow... It's been a while since you said so many words in one go!" She said with a delighted smile.

Ah, crap.

"Am I not allowed to talk now?"

Sylvia chuckled, and said, "I'm just teasing you. Hehe, I love it when you become talkative."

Badump.

Ah? Badump? Hey, heart, you can't fall in love just like that! Sigh, her smile is truly dangerous... She's beautiful, yes, but I can't let myself get distracted right now. My goal is to get back to Earth, my home...

Sylvia raised an eyebrow as she looked at Donovan who was staring at nothing, clearly thinking of something.

Sigh, what a shame. In my previous life as Clark Smith, I never got into a relationship even once, and I remained a virgin. The original Donovan is also still a virgin, which I can confirm through "my" memories.

Sylvia smiled as she thought of something.

Oh, and she's made many advances towards Donovan in the past through "my" memories. If she has feelings for me, then that's going to be a problem. I'm sorry Sylvia, but I'm not the real Donovan. Just Clark Smith pretending to be Donovan Volgard, who happens to have fused with his memories, not his personality. I replaced Donovan...

Suddenly, while Donovan was thinking, Sylvia suddenly popped a balloon in his ear!

"Agh." Donovan sighed as he put his right hand over his ear.

"Hahahaha! Sorry, sorry! Hahaha... Oh man, that was great!" She wiped a tear of joy flowing on her cheek.

...Sigh, even her laugh is dangerous. If I let my guard down, I might just fall in love with her. Careful, Donovan...

"Anyway, I have to go now. Think about it, alright?" Sylvia stood up, waved him goodbye, and walked out the cafe.

She has a great personality, and she's beautiful too. She's perfect... But unfortunately, I don't think I'm the right one for you. And besides, I really can't get distracted. I have to get back home.

After Donovan paid for the sandwich and the coffee, he left the cafe and walked back home.

...

4:47 p.m., Dean's apartment.

After Dean finished showering, he sat on the couch and sighed.

"Ah... oh..." He sighed very deeply.

Dean just finished his mission on the planet 74-Volcur-98, a planet of volcanoes. A cold shower was just what he needed.

"I want a girlfriend..."

...

5:02 p.m., Donovan's apartment.

After showering, he went to the balcony to watch the view of the city. The "sky" or rather, the barrier, the dome of the city Umbrellas was ablaze with gold, amber, and crimson.

"Sunset..."

In his previous life as Clark Smith, he often worked overtime, which means it's been a while since he last saw a sunset.

He looked to his side, imagining a girl standing beside him, watching the sunset with him. And even he was surprised that he used Sylvia's face in his imagination.

Damn... That's pathetic.

7:32 p.m. After having breakfast, and taking care of everything else, he sat before his computer. He was about to play games for an hour.

The next morning, he put on his suit, grabbed his umbrella, and left his apartment. He was going to return the World Name Card of Karlon because he forgot to.

The Portal Chamber was bright, filled with high-tech. At the center lay a huge sphere-shaped "portal", though it was inactive.

I wonder what that's for. The original Donovan had a few theories... It could be the portal for Zeronil when he comes to Umbrellas, or it could be the portal for... He turned around, raised his head, and looked at the very center of Umbrellas. There was a gigantic robot machine at the center, and it was still in construction, it could be the portal for that. No one's really told anyone what this gigantic portal is for.

He continued walking, and saw Tiero doing his job, giving World Name Cards for other Visitors. Donovan approached him, and nodded. "What's in store for me today?" After that, he returned the card to Tiero.

Tiero received the WNC of Karlon from him, raised an eyebrow, and said, "You don't know? How could you not know? There's literally a massive screen that appears inside your apartment to inform you of your mission for today. What, don't tell me you set up an alarm for it? Hm... You're never usually this early."

Donovan felt his heart skip a beat as he said, "Is it wrong to be early?"

Right... I forgot about that. Hm... When I transmigrated, it was at 7:30 a.m., and the original Donovan often goes to work at 7:50... That means that "I", or rather, the original Donovan, set up an alarm for the holographic screen that appears in his room to inform him of the mission details... at... hm... 7:30-ish? And after I transmigrated, I went to work past 8:00. I was considered late. That means that at around 7:30, the holographic screen will appear inside my room. Even after fusing with this body's memories, I still forget some details. It's currently 6:05, which means I am indeed a little early.

The intimidating Tiero snapped his fingers and said, "Hey, focus. Sigh, I'll tell you then. The planet's called 612-Hasdi-80. It's a mission we expect you to accomplish in two days, and it's too difficult for you to do it alone. You can go find someone to team up with, or join a team. But of course, this means the reward will be divided. Threat level is high. Your objective is to infiltrate an organization on that planet, and put the organization out of commission. The organization's called Celestial Smugglers. It's an organization that experiments with crystals of Annihiliths and turns them into weapons."

That's really difficult. Who should I take with me...?

Tiero continued, "Here's the World Name Card."

Donovan received the card, and put it in his pocket. "Give me 30 minutes. I'll find someone."

"Okay, good." Tiero walked away.

Hm... Dean? I could try... Or maybe... Sylvia's team... Or Gert's team... no, absolutely not. I'll try Dean.

Donovan took out his smartphone and called Dean.

...

A hand reached out for the noisy phone. Dean yawned, answered, and said slowly, "What the f**k do you want...?"

...

Donovan replied, "I want you to team up with me for a mission." After Donovan said that, the call suddenly ended.

After Dean ended the call, he scratched his head, yawned again, and continued sleeping.

Meanwhile, on Donovan's side.

Figured... I heard he just finished a mission in Volcur... So... Sylvia's team then? Hah... how awkward. I just said to her that I have other matters to worry about and I can't join her team, and now I'm about to call her...

As his finger hovered over the call button, he felt his heart quicken.

Just do it, man...

He called her, and after 16 seconds, a voice answered, "Hey, Donovan... What's up...?"
