Chapter 8 - Infiltration

Donovan replied, "Sylvia. Have you just woken up?"

He heard her yawn, "Yeah... What is it?"

"...I'll temporarily join your team. Temporarily."

After saying that, silence followed for 7 seconds before he heard a gasp from Sylvia. Then, she said, "Really?! That's great! It's for a mission, right? Are you at the Portal Chamber?"

"Yes. Uh... I'll wait for you and your team here. But please come here in under 30 minutes."

Sylvia chuckled, and said, "Hehe. No problem. Wait for us, Donovan!"

The call ended, and Donovan sighed deeply.

The reward will be divided... Well, I should go find somewhere to wait at. Jarloo's Eats? Too far.

Donovan walked with his umbrella, and found a nice cozy metal bench to sit on. He took out his phone to entertain himself.

After about 21 minutes, he heard a voice in the distance call out, "Donovan, hey!"

He raised his head, put away his phone, and stood up with his umbrella on his right hand.

Sylvia walked towards him, and a fellow female Visitor walked beside her.

It was none other than Sasha. She had blonde hair and black eyes. Like Sylvia, her beauty was stunning. She wore a black suit, and her umbrella was a foldable one.

Sasha nodded at Donovan with a smile, and Donovan nodded back.

"Only you two?" Donovan asked.

"Mhm. The others were still asleep, and some were busy. Oh, and this is Sasha. Hehe, remember her? You met her a week ago." Sylvia introduced Sasha to Donovan, and Donovan replied with another nod.

"Yes, that's right. It's nice to see you again, Miss."

"Mhm." Sasha hummed.

"So, Donovan, what's the mission?" Sylvia asked.

"612-Hasdi-80. That's the name of the planet. Our... objective is to infiltrate an organization called Celestial Smugglers and put them out of commission. They're experimenting on the crystals of Annihiliths to create powerful weapons. That's the gist of it." Donovan then took out the World Name Card of Hasdi, and showed it to the two female Visitors in front of him.

The two then activated their "Card Copy" ability, and a copy of the World Name Card of Hasdi appeared in their palms. They returned the original card to Donovan.

"Everyone ready...?" Donovan inserted the World Name Card to the umbrella's shaft.

"Wait, wait." Sylvia said, took out her phone, raised it, and took a selfie with the three of them.

"Hehe. It's the first time I'm working with you, Donovan." Sylvia gave him a warm and gentle smile.

Badump.

Not again... Stop "badump-badumping," heart!

Donovan silently gulped, and prepared to activate the world-hopping ability.

The two did so as well, and in an instant, their bodies were enveloped in light as they disappeared.

...

612-Hasdi-80.

Three Visitors appeared with a bright flash of light, momentarily flashing their surroundings. It was dark, so Donovan tapped his umbrella on the ground and activated his Flame Ball ability. This was one of the basic abilities of a Mage-type Visitor.

A ball of fire appeared in Donovan's palm, and the light from it immediately brightened their surroundings. They were currently in an abandoned subway, and the walls have already been destroyed.

Sylvia hummed, and said, "A subway?"

"Seems like it." Sasha replied.

Donovan didn't say anything, and began walking forward. The two followed, and after a minute of walking, they suddenly encountered a humanoid-shaped corpse.

Sasha stopped in her tracks, but Sylvia and Donovan did not.

Donovan kneeled to examine the corpse. The corpse was completely charred, and there were cracks in the surface. The eye sockets were empty, and the corpse's mouth was entirely open, as if it died screaming.

"How terrible. What could have caused this?" Sylvia asked as she stood beside the kneeling Donovan.

Hm... Is this person a victim of those "weapons" that Celestial Smugglers are creating? Or perhaps it's just the result of a fire.

Donovan stood back up, and continued walking. The two followed him.

After about two minutes, they reached a flight of stairs.

Is this the exit of the subway?

"Let's keep going." he said to the two Visitors behind him.

They walked up the stairs, and after a while, they reached the surface. They stepped on the ground, their shoes coming into contact with "grass" that was entirely different from the grass that the three are familiar with.

This is a completely different world, after all. I'll be very surprised if the inhabitants looked like humans— wait a minute... That corpse from before looked completely human. Something's not right.

"Stay close," he said, and tapped his umbrella on the ground to extinguish the ball of fire in his palm.

From the looks of it, we're currently out in the wilderness, specifically a mountain. A subway under a mountain...

It was currently nighttime, and the moonlight helped quite a bit in illuminating their surroundings.

Sasha looked to the side, and saw a bustling city with fast moving pillars of light, as if they were having some sort of festival. Music could be heard from where she and the two were standing.

"Guess that's our destination." Sylvia said with a smile.

Twenty-one minutes later, they reached the city. Donovan carefully examined the "people."

They were completely alien to Donovan, some looking like elephants in different skin colors, some looked like blobs of slime with two eyeballs, and some even looked like something you'd see in a sci-fi horror movie.

Donovan sighed, and said, "Who wants to change into that?"

Sasha and Sylvia looked at each other, and shook their heads at Donovan.

Figured. No one would want to change into those monstrosities with the Disguise ability.

"Then we'll go invisible and find the organization Celestial Smugglers. Remember, if you encounter a situation, don't hesitate to press the Emergency Teleport." Donovan instructed the two.

Sylvia chuckled and said with a smile, "Hehe, no one would want to abandon the mission rewards, Donovan. If I encounter a situation, I'm sure you'll save me~"

Badump.

Stop doing that, heart.

Donovan silently sighed, and said to the two, "Let's go."

The three then dispersed, and instantly activated their Invisibility ability. Although Sylvia and Sasha had gone invisible, Donovan could still see them. This was the passive ability of Invisibility, being able to see fellow Visitors who are invisible.

As Donovan was left alone, he floated in the air and examined the city.

Modern, high-tech, and completely alien.

The buildings were ridiculously tall, and there were many flying vehicles. Holes would open up in the walls of the buildings, and the flying vehicles would enter it. There was also some sort of festival going on, so the streets were bustling with activity.

The people's clothes were unfamiliar to Donovan.

Suddenly, as he was flying, a flying vehicle suddenly bumped into the invisible him. Donovan fell to the ground with a groan, and a heavy, massive foot stepped on his left hand. The "person" who stepped on Donovan's hand looked at his feet to see what they just stepped at. Seeing that it was nothing, they walked away.

Meanwhile, Donovan was sitting on an alley with his back to the wall, holding his left arm.

God, it hurts! Sasha's a Healer-type, so I'll get her to fix this up later...

He stood up, grabbed his umbrella with his right, uninjured hand, and walked out of the alley in his invisible form.

I'm getting nowhere with this. Should I really just disguise myself into these aliens? Man...

He walked back into the alley, crouched and took a seat behind the dumpster, and activated his Disguise ability.
