The next morning, Donovan woke up on his own without the help of an alarm clock. This was because in his previous life as Clark Smith, he didn't like waking up because of the loud ringing of an alarm clock.
He sat up on the sofa, got up and stretched, and made his way to the bed. The Vorlan was already awake, seated at the window sill, admiring the scenery outside. Donovan glanced at the clock. 6:30 a.m.
I woke up early again... I still have an hour and a half before work— oh, wait, it's Saturday! What should I do for today? Practice up on my spells? Go to the library? Oh, right, I have to go to Tiero for the mission reward.
While Donovan was lost in his thoughts, the Vorlan suddenly said in a deep, rough voice, "Remember, buy a bed for me if you don't want me to sleep on your bed every night. Oh, and buy food for Vorlans."
The corner of Donovan's lips twitched, and he went to the bathroom to relieve himself.
He then got the Chef robot to make himself breakfast. It was eggs and bacon. As the Chef put down the food on the table, the Vorlan approached and said, "Hey, tell the robot to make some for me too."
Right, I don't have Vorlan food for you yet...
Donovan grabbed a piece of bacon and tossed it towards the Vorlan. He expected the Vorlan to catch it with its mouth just like Max once did, but instead, the bacon started floating and slowly landed on the Vorlan's mouth.
"This isn't enough. Go buy some food for me first." Said the Vorlan.
"...Let me finish my food first, then I'll go."
The Vorlan didn't say a thing as it leaped onto the sofa and pressed the remote to turn on the TV with its paws.
Is this the right decision? Am I really going to let this Vorlan stay? I don't even know how it can help me other than answering my questions...
While eating, Donovan suddenly asked, "What do you know about the World Devourer Beast?"
"It's one of the creations of the Titan of Creation and Madam Death. Twenty years ago, it was just an ordinary Vorlan in the planet of Vorlans, Devolwar... But suddenly, The Forge Master and The Specter turned an ordinary Vorlan into a being who can devour planets. Reminder, it was still a newborn Vorlan. Even though it became a being who can consume planets, it still had the mind of a newborn. All it could think about was eat, eat, and eat." The Vorlan said while watching the TV.
Donovan asked, "And then?"
"And then The Executor killed the Beast." The Vorlan said succinctly.
The Executor... Sounds familiar...
As Donovan was thinking, he remembered why the name was familiar! He saw it in the time he went to the library!
Is it Arthur Voss, The Executor? One of the eight people that Zeronil gave a portion of "His" power to? As for The Forge Master and The Specter... Garrik Thorne and Veyda Rynn?
Also, what's with the Titan of Creation and Madam Death? Who are they? Oh... do these titles also correspond to Garrik Thorne and Veyda Rynn? Fascinating...
Donovan took a bite out of his bacon, and asked again, "Why did they do it? Why'd they do that to a Vorlan?"
The Vorlan turned the TV off, hopped onto the armrest of the sofa, and said while staring at Donovan, "I don't know. We cannot fathom how 'Their' minds work, what 'They' are thinking."
Donovan was flabbergasted.
"They"?! This Vorlan addressed them, no—"Them" as deities! Could it be, that just from being granted a portion of "His" powers, that these eight were able to be considered as gods?!
Donovan paused his eating, staring blankly at the Vorlan.
"Shocking, eh? I told you I'm knowledgeable." The Vorlan then hopped back onto the center of the sofa and turned the TV on again.
You gotta tell me more to convince me you're knowledgeable!
Donovan resumed his eating. He then took a cold shower to fully wake himself up. After he was done, since it was Saturday, there's no need to head outside in a suit.
Instead, he wore a gray turtleneck sweater with a black overcoat.
As he neared the front door, the Vorlan reminded him again, "Remember, Vorlan food and a bed!"
Donovan sighed inwardly.
At 7:29, he exited his apartment building and headed to the nearest pet store. The pet store was called Pawradise.
After buying Vorlan food and a medium-sized bed for the dog, no—the Vorlan, Donovan returned home. After all, he didn't want to face Tiero while carrying these two things.
At 7:57 a.m., he fed the Vorlan.
"Put the bed near the bathroom." Said the Vorlan as it ate its food.
So you don't have to walk so far when you wake up in the middle of the night just to piss? I feel you...
"You do know how to use the toilet, right?" Donovan asked.
The Vorlan "glared" at him, "Choose your words wisely. Don't make me angry."
Donovan sighed inwardly, and left his apartment again. He made sure to take his umbrella with him.
...
Dean exited the restaurant called Jarloo's Eats.
He was wearing a white hoodie. Then suddenly, he spotted a familiar face in the distance. It was Donovan Volgard.
His friend was on his way to the Portal Chamber. Then, Dean approached.
...
Donovan spotted his friend Dean walking towards him in the distance.
What does he want... Come to think of it, this is the first time I've seen him in person ever since I transmigrated. I've just been talking to him through the phone.
Then, as the blonde haired Dean approached, Donovan reached out his right hand and did a dap with him.
This is how the original owner of this body and Dean interacted...
Then, Dean put his hands in his pockets and asked, "Whatchu up to?"
"To the Portal Chamber to get my mission reward from Tiero." Donovan said.
Dean suddenly said, "Yeah, let's go, dude. I'm bored."
You have nothing better to do? Sigh... How about you do your missions, then?
At 8:19 a.m., Donovan headed to the Portal Chamber with Dean. As they neared, they saw Sylvia and her team talking to Tiero.
Paul spotted the two of them and raised his right arm and waved it.
This time, Paul wasn't in his Hasdivian disguise. Donovan saw what he looked like. Red hair, black eyes, quite handsome, and wore a simple white t-shirt.
As Donovan and Dean approached, he also noticed one more detail about Paul.
Two large scars on the right side of his neck...
He stopped staring and nodded at Sylvia and the others. Meanwhile, Dean dapped up Paul and the muscular Harold.
Tiero interrupted them in an intimidating voice, "Everyone's here. Dean, you don't count. Anyway, the mission's a failure because you six got exposed. And a team member killed a civilian."
Paul clenched his fists, muttering under his breath. Vi kept his gaze on the floor, avoiding Sylvia's stare.
Then, Tiero continued, "Umbrella's relationship with 612-Hasdi-80 was already weak, and the six of you damaged it even further... But since you still acquired the weapons, we'll consider it. One hundred and fifty dollars."
Donovan inwardly breathed a sigh of relief, as well as the others.
Tiero continued, "If you weren't exposed, it would've been three hundred. That's all, dismissed."
If Donovan had gone alone, he could've gotten 1,800 dollars. But since there were six of them, the max payment was three hundred dollars since it had to be divided. And since they were exposed, they only got a hundred and fifty dollars.
Tiero didn't explain further, and he walked away. The money was going to be added to the six people's bank accounts.
When am I going to get a mission where the reward is a new spell...
Sylvia sighed, and suddenly pinched Vi's right ear. Vi let out a groan as Sylvia said in a gentle voice with a "gentle" smile, "Next time, no more killing of civilians, okay?"
Donovan, make sure not to get on her bad side... Donovan silently gulped.
Sylvia waved goodbye to Dean and Donovan and she left along with her team.
Then, Dean turned to Donovan, "Yo. Can I borrow some money?"
I knew it... That's why you followed me here! Just do your damn missions!
