Chereads / Umbrellas / Chapter 5 - Danger

Chapter 5 - Danger

After Donovan finished his breakfast, the chef robot walked up to the wall, and the wall opened up like a door. The chef robot then walked inside, and the wall closed.

Donovan washed the dishes, took a bath, and sat at his chair facing his computer desk.

Let's play the games that the previous Donovan played...

...

At the Portal Chamber.

Dean was walking towards Tiero, and Tiero shook his head upon seeing Dean.

"Finally. I should report you to the higher-ups for neglecting your missions, but you're lucky I'm a nice person." Tiero sighed after.

Nice? Bull. "Let's just get this sh*t over with." Said Dean.

Tiero raised his right arm where he was wearing a metal glove, and a World Name Card appeared. He tossed it at Dean.

Upon catching the card, Dean examined it.

74-Volcur-98...

"Tch. Man, are you f**king serious right now? This is that world full of volcanoes, right?" Dean said while scratching his head.

"Yes. This is punishment for neglecting your missions. Be quick and precise. Remember your training, Dean Aldridge."

Damn bastard... Dean inserted the card into his umbrella's shaft. He fixed his tie and took out a comb to fix his hair.

He activated the umbrella's world hopping ability. "If I die, it's on you, f**ker." After that, Dean disappeared. Tiero walked away.

The moment Dean appeared on 74-Volcur-98, a wave of unbearable heat hit his face. Lava bubbled in the distance, and the air shimmered with heatwaves. "F**k me..." he muttered as he adjusted his tie.

After three hours of gaming, Donovan finally decided to take a break. Whew. These games are pretty great. Much better graphics than RDR2...

Also, the current year is 2118... And I did some searches, but I didn't find anything belonging to the Earth I was in, like GTA and RDR2... No movies from Earth either, like The Godfather... So basically, future Earth, but alternate universe? Alternate future Earth... Alright, I'm going with that for now.

He got up from his seat, put on his suit, and grabbed his umbrella.

Let's go visit Karlon...

Donovan checked his umbrella's shaft, saw that the World Name Card of Karlon was still inside, and he activated his world-hopping ability.

His body was enveloped with light, and he disappeared in his room. He made sure to lock the door before leaving.

...

843-Karlon-45.

Donovan arrived at a different alley this time. He became invisible, walked out of the alley, and checked his surroundings. He was once again back at the steampunk-themed city filled with fog and smoke.

He was surprised to see that there are people walking now. They were dressed in clothes slightly similar from Earth and Umbrellas. There were some robots walking with the humans, but Donovan wasn't surprised by this anymore.

He passed through the people, and found the apartment building he fought in. He sneaked his way inside, but it was like nothing even happened inside. People were inside the building, going about their everyday life. No Annihiliths, no blood.

Well, it's very likely that this world's authorities already dealt with it.

Donovan exited the building. He was currently at a loss at what to do.

There are people now, so what do I do now? I have nothing to start with... Besides, I wasn't even a detective in my original life as Clark Smith... Uh... case closed, I guess?

He let out a sigh. And suddenly, just right after he blinked, he was currently sitting on a chair in a dark room.

What the hell?!

Donovan wanted to move, but he couldn't. His body wasn't restrained, but he couldn't move. Woah, woah, woah! The hell's happening?! Calm down, calm down...

He searched for his umbrella, and found it sitting on top of a small desk a few distances on the left from where he was currently sitting. Although it was dark, he could vaguely guess where he was at. Am I in the basement or something?

Suddenly, he heard footsteps. He heard a door open behind him, causing light to creep in. The door closed, and everything went back to darkness. He hears footsteps descending in what Donovan guessed as stairs.

The footsteps got closer, and a dark hooded figure passed Donovan, sitting across from him at the small table. The figure crossed their ten fingers and brought it near their chin. Suddenly, the figure said in a deep, rough voice which filled Donovan with dread, "What's your name?"

My name? Oh god, what's gonna happen to me? I'm just a gaming addict with a decent, no—crappy job! No, that was me when I was Clark Smith. Now I'm Donovan Volgard...

"...D-Donovan."

Damn it! Why am I stuttering?!

"I knew it..." The figure said. "Why must you interfere with my plans...?" The figure said slowly in his deep, rough voice as if phlegm was stuck in his throat. It was too dark for Donovan to see clearly what the face of the... "person" sitting before him looked like because of the hood covering the figure's face, but Donovan had a guess that it was an old man talking to him because of the deep, rough voice.

"You mean those four Annihiliths? It's our duty to exterminate them." Said Donovan, and he gulped right after.

"...'Our'?" Said the figure in a malicious tone.

Damn! Think before you speak, Donovan!

Donovan remained silent, and the figure said, "Do you belong to an organization...?"

"...No." I just have to lie... But I hope he doesn't notice...

"A lie." Said the figure, and he uncrossed his ten fingers, raised his right hand, and prepared to snap his fingers.

Donovan's eyes widened, and he quickly said, "Wait, wait, wait! Okay, I lied. I belong to a space organization called Umbrellas..."

The figure reached out their right hand, and their index finger began to tap slowly on the surface of the table. Then, the figure asked, "Umbrellas?"

"Yes. W-We... We focus on exterminating Annihiliths." Stop stuttering, damn it!

The figure remained silent as he stared into Donovan's eyes. After about 15 seconds of silence, the figure said, "I see..." After saying that, Donovan saw the figure before him lean back into the chair, crossed his ten fingers, pressed his fingers against his chin, and smiled warmly at Donovan, though Donovan could not see the smile on the figure's face because of the darkness. The figure hummed, and said plainly, "Take me there, Donovan."

"What?" Asked Donovan.

"To Umbrellas." The figure said.

Donovan tried to move again, but he failed. "Why can't I move...?" asked Donovan.

The figure snapped his fingers using his right hand, and Donovan felt that he could move again. The figure stood up and turned around, walking up to a small desk.

But as soon as the figure turned around, Donovan quickly reached for his umbrella sitting on top of a small desk, and he immediately pressed the Emergency Teleport button.

The Emergency Teleport was faster, instant, and quicker than the world-hopping ability. Donovan's body was quickly enveloped in light and he immediately disappeared.

The figure turned around, and Donovan was nowhere to be seen.

The figure let out a smile as he hummed. "Hm..."

...

Healer Sanctuary, Umbrellas.

The Healer-type Visitors looked at Donovan who suddenly appeared in the hall, uninjured and sweating.

Donovan sat on a chair, put his umbrella beside him, and he tried to calm his breathing. A nurse robot approached him, and asked, "Are you okay, sir?"

"Yes. Yes, I'm fine. I'm sorry, I'll leave now." Donovan grabbed his umbrella and hurriedly exited the building.

Should I report this to the higher-ups...?

...

843-Karlon-45.

The figure sat back down on the chair, snapped his fingers, and a floating holographic image of the entire city of Umbrellas appeared on top of the table. Instead of a planet, it was a flat city floating in outer space protected by a sphere-shaped barrier, with many spaceships coming in and out.

The figure smiled again.

"Finally..."
