Chapter 42 - Birthday

Luo Ye opened the door.

The living room was quiet, but the light in Su Baizhou's room was on.

Just as Luo Ye was about to turn on the light, the door to Su Baizhou's room opened.

The moment the door opened, the light in her room went out.

The living room was pitch black now, and Luo Ye could only make out a shadow by the door to Su Baizhou's room.

"Senior Sister?" Luo Ye asked, confused.

Su Baizhou took a step forward, and the sound of high heels echoed in the living room.

High heels? Why was she wearing high heels?

Su Baizhou walked to the table, pulling a lighter out of her pocket.

Luo Ye heard the click of the lighter, and the next moment, the table was illuminated by candles, a row of them burning brightly on a cake.

Luo Ye blinked in surprise.

He walked closer to the table, his expression puzzled.

"Senior Sister, what's this...?"

"This is your birthday cake," Su Baizhou said, handing him a birthday hat. She spoke lightly, "Put it on and make a wish."

Luo Ye sat down, glancing at the birthday hat in his hands, then at Su Baizhou sitting across from him. Although she had no expression, her eyes were fixed on him.

At that moment, Luo Ye thought Su Baizhou seemed even more beautiful than usual.

Before, he had always thought she was just pretty, but now... now, Su Baizhou was beauty itself.

When you like someone, there's a glow about them.

From the moment you start liking someone, whether they're beautiful or not no longer depends on their looks alone.

It's like now, when Luo Ye looked at Su Baizhou.

The candlelight was faint, only bright enough to illuminate the table, barely allowing them to see each other's faces.

Luo Ye placed the birthday hat on his head.

He looked at the candles, closed his eyes, and spoke softly, "I wish..."

"Don't say it out loud, or it won't come true," Su Baizhou reminded him gently.

But Luo Ye hadn't planned to say it out loud anyway.

After saying "I wish," he silently made his wish in his heart:

I hope Senior Sister likes me too.

Then, Luo Ye blew out the candles and opened his eyes.

The living room went dark again.

The surroundings were pitch black, with only Su Baizhou's voice in Luo Ye's ears.

"What did you wish for?" she asked.

Luo Ye smiled, "Senior Sister, if I tell you, it won't come true."

"That's true."

She had just reminded him, and now it was his turn to remind her.

She was curious about Luo Ye's wish.

Although she didn't know what it was, she hoped his wish would come true.

She wanted to bring happiness to the person who brought her joy.

Suddenly, the lights came back on.

Su Baizhou looked at Luo Ye, who was standing by the switch, her expression freezing for a moment as if she hadn't reacted in time.

Why had he suddenly turned the lights back on?

"Senior Sister, what's wrong?" Luo Ye asked, his face puzzled.

Why did he feel like something was off with Su Baizhou? Her expression seemed a little unnatural.

"It's nothing."

Su Baizhou stood up, walking stiffly toward her room.

The sound of high heels tapping on the floor echoed again. Luo Ye looked over and froze in shock, his eyes widening.

"Senior Sister... what are you wearing?"

Su Baizhou was now dressed in a black spaghetti-strap mini dress, her arms fully exposed, soft and fair.

For someone who usually wore at least short sleeves, even a spaghetti strap dress made her feel a bit embarrassed.

The dress ended above her knees, revealing her long, perfect legs. Despite the dress covering her thighs, her legs were still stunningly beautiful and hard to ignore.

The heels made her legs even more striking—like works of art, white and straight, leaving everyone breathless.

It was absolutely perfect.

Su Baizhou in a spaghetti strap dress was probably a sight no one had seen at Jiang University before.

Su Baizhou turned her back, her face turning slightly red. She spoke softly, "Do you think it looks good?"

"Y-Yes... it looks good."

Hearing this, Su Baizhou let out a sigh of relief.

Li Xia hadn't lied to her—it really worked.

She had been completely against buying this outfit, but Li Xia had insisted and dragged her to the mall, even making her try it on in the fitting room.

When Su Baizhou saw herself in the mirror, she had to admit, even as a girl, she found herself alluring. How could Luo Ye, a guy, resist?

When the ice-cold goddess played the role of innocent temptation, the contrast was unbeatable.

Su Baizhou reluctantly bought the outfit under Li Xia's insistence.

But now, she felt flustered. After giving Luo Ye a quick glance, she hurried back to her room to change into her pajamas.

Her pajamas were conservative—light blue silk with short sleeves and long pants, featuring cute little rabbit designs.

At the same time, Su Baizhou was holding another gift for Luo Ye.

It was a keyboard!

A pink one!

Su Baizhou said softly, "Professor Gu mentioned that you're always typing on your keyboard at home, so I got this for you."

Luo Ye's mouth twitched.

He had been typing to write his novel, but this was a gift from Senior Sister, so he happily accepted it.

What Luo Ye didn't know was that, from the moment he accepted the pink keyboard, in the not-too-distant future, his knees would be deeply bonded to this keyboard.

The Next Day

The next morning, Luo Ye woke up.

Today was the day the students were returning to Jiang University, and his class would have a roll call tonight.

This also meant he had to return to the dormitory and reunite with his "three sons."

Luo Ye woke up early today because he was planning to exercise with Senior Sister.

In the living room, Su Baizhou had already changed into her black running clothes and was about to leave when she noticed Luo Ye's tired expression.

"Are you sure you can keep up?" she asked.

Those three words instantly triggered Luo Ye.

"I'm definitely good to go!"

Su Baizhou didn't say anything more, and simply walked out of the living room.

Luo Ye followed behind her, and together they headed to the nearby track at Jiang University to begin their morning jog.

The sun hadn't risen yet, but the sky had already begun to brighten.

Not far away, an elderly couple was practicing Tai Chi.

The elderly man nodded at Su Baizhou when he saw her, and she politely nodded back.

Luo Ye, confused, asked, "Who's that?"

"That's the vice dean of Jiang University, my teacher's senior," Su Baizhou explained.

The vice dean of Jiang University? So impressive?

Wait, what does teacher's senior mean?

Su Baizhou's teacher was Professor Gu. So, her teacher's senior was her teacher's mentor.

When Luo Ye realized this, he looked back at the elderly man.

So, the vice dean of Jiang University was his cousin's teacher, meaning he wasn't just Su Baizhou's mentor but also an elder in Luo Ye's life.
