The weight of their shopping bags was minimal compared to the growing list of things Nephis had managed to make Sunny experience today.
'How much do you want to do today..?' He sighed
And now, apparently, she had something else in mind.
'Ben and Jerry's? Who the hell is ben?'
Sunny frowned. "You wanted ice cream?"
Nephis turned to him, her silver eyes glinting with something close to excitement.
"I've never tried it before."
He blinked. "Never?"
She shook her head. "I always wanted to."
Then, after a pause, she tilted her head at him. "You have, right?"
He opened his mouth, about to lie on instinct, but his flaw gripped him before he could. "No."
She gave him an unreadable look before taking his hand and pulling him inside.
She stepped up to the counter, glancing at the options. After a moment, she made a simple choice. "Two vanilla."
Sunny raised an eyebrow. "Just vanilla?"
She glanced at him. "It's a classic."
A few minutes later, they were seated at a small table near the window, each with a cup of pale, creamy ice cream and a small spoon.
Sunny stared at his suspiciously, playing with the spoon.
"So… we just eat it?"
Nephis huffed a quiet laugh before scooping some up and tasting it first.
She swallowed and gave a small nod of approval.
"It's good."
Sunny hesitated for a moment before finally taking a bite.
The cold hit his tongue first.
'Damn!'
...followed by an unexpected taste melted in his mouth.
He blinked.
Then, he blinked again.
He had no idea what he expected, but it wasn't this.
Nephis watched him, waiting for his reaction.
Sunny put his spoon down, cleared his throat, and nodded as if this were a normal experience.
"It's… surprisingly good."
Nephis tilted her head. "How good?"
His flaw gripped him again. "I think I love it."
Nephis blinked, then let out a quiet chuckle. "That serious, huh?"
Sunny scowled, stabbing his spoon into the ice cream. "This is why I don't answer your questions."
Nephis smirked and took another bite.
They continued eating in comfortable silence, the occasional sound of their spoons scraping against the cups the only thing filling the air.
After a few minutes, he looked up and caught sight of Neph, her usual stoic expression softened as she took another bite.
'Looks like a little kid.'
Before he could stop himself, a quiet chuckle escaped him.
Nephis looked up. "What?"
Sunny shook his head, his smirk widening. "Nothing. Just… you look like you're enjoying yourself."
Nephis tilted her head slightly, as if considering his words. Then, her lips curled into a faint smile.
"I am."
Sunny huffed. "Well, don't get used to it. Next time, I pick where we go."
Nephis raised an eyebrow, amusement flickering in her gaze. "Oh? And where would that be?"
Sunny thought for a moment before grinning. "Somewhere that doesn't involve me trying on ridiculous outfits."
Nephis hummed, tapping her spoon against her cup thoughtfully. "No promises."
Sunny groaned, but despite himself, he was still smiling.
