Chereads / Shadow Slave - One Shots / Chapter 55 - Breakfast

Chapter 55 - Breakfast

The egg.

Crack.

Spilled on the floor.

Another egg.

Crack.

Spilled on his hand.

Another egg.

Crack.

All over the counter.

'Damnnation!' The poor outskirts kid who recently became an awakened was struggling to even make eggs for himself.

It wasn't the case of him not being able to control his strength, but the constant tease the Shadow had recieved from the hungry beast.

Behind the poor soul, was a woman in a wheelchair, laughing and pointing at him.

"You're telling me! You brought.. Cassie home?!" Midway through the beast's sentence was sounds of hysterical laughing.

What a sight it must of been to see a blind seer sleeping in Sunny's bed.

Effie rubbed her eyes to get rid of the tears she had produced, and... composed herself.

"Look at you, Sunny! Nephis wasn't enough?"

And yet again, after an ounce of peacefullness that was nestled inside of her, it burst like a dam.

Once again, she was laughing.

'I'll kill her. No, I'll do something worse than that.' Sunny stood there standing over the tabletop viewing the mess he's made.

3 eggs have been wasted all over the top with some yolk even getting on Sunny.

"Quiet, Effie." He turned his head to glare at her, only to recieve another hysterical laugh from Effie herself.

He smacked his tongue together and looked back at the tabletop before picking up a towel to clean up the mess he made.

"Ahh.. Sorry, Sunny but I refuse to believe that Cassie just came over to not.. 'Disturb her parents.'"

Effie raised both of her arms and made a speechmark notation at the phrase 'Disturb her parents'. She clearly didn't believe it, and so did Sunny.

"Well whatever it is, she's gone by today."

Sunny replied with a stern look in his face as he finally manages to crack an egg and pour it on the bowl. A look of triumphiant spreads over his face as he achieved the impossible.

"So you really do want me gone, huh?"

...

'Huh..?' His brain took a second to process the voice of the unknown, before matching it with the one he l̷o̷v̷e̷s̷... the one he hates.

His head quickly spun to the voice and taking in her appearance.

A small crack at his neck could be heard by the sheer spead of his turn.

Cassie, her body leaning against the wall as she sneakily heard the conversation. Her hair looked undone and her clothes were the same clothes that Sunny wore-

'Why does she have my clothes on?!' Sunny's face turned from shock to horror in a split second. Before he could even ask, Cassie interrupted, providing the answer that he just asked.

"I didn't have anything to change to, so I had to borrow your clothes. Sorry for not asking."

She said as a smile crept up to her face.

"Wow.. look at you two lovebirds..." Effie said as she took a sip of her beer.

Sunny shot her a glare and profously exclaimed, "We are not lovebirds! You damned animal!"

Cassie quietly giggled as she heard the oncoming teasing.

"Tch, whatever. Take your food." He said as he placed the plates on Effie's mini table.

'Fatass.'

He went back to the tabletop and observed what's left. 2 plates. One for him and One for Cassie.

'How could I even-'

"Are you gonna give Cas her damn food or what?" Effie loudly interrupted his thoughts which caused Sunny to jolt.

Without saying a word, he walked over to Cassie and roughly but not enough to hurt grabbed her hand and let her to the table.

"Sit." He ordered.

Cassie nodded, still upholding the smile on her face.

'Why is she so happy? Maybe I should just spit in her food.' Sunny inwardly thought as he placed her plate and utensils where she sat.

He didn't give much thought to wherever he sat so he decided to sit next to Cassie.

'Least I don't want to sit next to that ogre.'

...

"Do you really not want me staying here, Sunny?" Cassie asked, looking at his direction.

'Damnnation.' He couldn't think of anything to twist the truth, and his flaw wasn't going to give him any room to breath.

Looking away from Effie and Cassie, he muttered. "I wouldn't mind you staying here. I even prefer it."

Cassie chuckled before going back to her plate, as if she already knew the answer.

"So, what are you planning on doing for the next couple of days?" Effie asked, directed at Sunny.

He already knew the answer. He recently bought the pod to enter the Dreamscape, in hopes of increasing his Shadow Dance.

"Train in the Dreamscape." Sunny answered straightfowardly.

Effie nodded before going to her 6th plate.

Sunny couldn't help but feel how awkward it is.

He quickly finished his food and placed the plates back to washing.

"Sunny." A voice called out to him.

He turned around and met the messanger's eyes.

Blue irises, like the ocean reflected back at his Onyx eyes.

"W-what."

'Stuttering? Are we serious, Sunny?' He couldn't help but feel a rush of warmth spread to his ears as he stared into the girl's eyes.

You couldn't blame him, really. Cassie didn't wear her blindfold in his house, giving him full access to view the beauty.

"Thanks for letting me stay over." Cassie simply said.

"Don't worry about it." He said before speedwalking to his room.

'Damn you, Damn fate, Damn her stupid eyes.' Placing his palms at his face to cover his face.

(on the other side of the door)

"So, was I correct?" Cassie asked

"Yep. Blushing like a madman." Effie replied, grinning.

"Good." Cassie smiled.

******

Knock. Knock.

A soft knock on his door made him freeze.

"…What?"

The door creaked open.

Cassie stepped inside, her bare feet light against the floor.

She didn't say anything at first, just quietly closing the door behind her before leaning against it, arms crossed over her chest.

Sunny narrowed his eyes. "What do you

want?"

Cassie tilted her head slightly. "Just checking in on you."

"I'm fine." Sunny replied.

"Are you?" she asked, stepping closer to his voice.

Sunny tensed. "Obviously."

Cassie hummed, unconvinced. She took another step.

Then another.

Until she was right in front of him, too close, close enough that he could see every detail of her face.

Sunny clenched his fists. "Cassie…"

She leaned in.

His breath hitched.

"Why do you keep running away from me, Sunny?" she asked softly.

Before he could even think, he smacked his tongue together and moved.

In an instant, he had her pinned against the wall, his hands braced on either side of her head.

His face was inches from hers, his onyx eyes locked onto her blue irisies with burning intensity.

Cassie blinked up at him, completely unfazed. If anything… she looked amused.

"Why?" He demanded, voice low and sharp.

"Why do you keep teasing me?"

Her lips parted slightly before curling into a slow, knowing smile.

"Teasing?" she echoed, tilting her head just the slightest bit. "What teasing?"

He clenched his jaw, staring at her smug little smile.

"You know exactly what you're doing," he muttered, his voice filled with irritation.

She blinked up at him, her expression shifting slightly.

Then.

She lifted her hand and placed it gently over his face.

'...Huh?' Sunny froze.

"What are you doing?"

Cassie hesitated, her fingers curling slightly as if she were holding onto something fragile.

A faint blush dusted her cheeks, but from the look of it, she wasn't teasing anymore.

"…I'm still sorry," she murmured.

She bit her lip before continuing, her voice softer than before.

"I just… I just want to be closer to you. That's all."

He narrowed his eyes slightly. "Closer?"

She nodded.

"I think about the Forgotten Shore a lot," she admitted.

"When it was just the two of us. Fighting, surviving, watching each other's backs."

"...Well, it was mostly you just taking care of me but still." She chuckled.

"I loved those moments with you."

Sunny stared at her, silent.

Cassie exhaled and tilted her head slightly.

"Did you?" she asked.

His body tensed.

'Damn it.'

Forced to compel with her question, he answered truthfully.

"…Yeah," he muttered.

Cassie's smile widened slightly, but Sunny wasn't done.

His own words spilled out before he could stop them.

"I enjoyed every moment," he admitted.

"Even the worst of it. Even the suffering. For some reason, when I was with you. I just felt something warm in me."

His hands clenched into fists. "I don't know why. I just did."

Cassie's hand lingered against his cheek for a moment before she slowly pulled away.

"That's enough for me." she whispered.
