Chereads / Strongest Demigod System / Chapter 28 - A Fragile Alliance

Chapter 28 - A Fragile Alliance

"What is your God Aspect?"

This was what would either make or break this partnership. Azrael had no use for her if she was not going to be able to help him with her God Aspect. Azrael wasn't going to kill her because she had helped him. Even though he was a cold-blooded murderer, Azrael knew how to repay people for their actions. Maddison had been the one to bail him out from the police, so he was going to give her the benefit of doubt. Azrael knew he could still change his mind if he found out that she was useless to him, but Maddison knew a lot about him already. It was better to test the waters and see how useful she could be before making a final decision.

Maddison swallowed nervously and then she told Azrael what her God Aspect was. Azrael blinked in surprise before he sighed and put his hands in his pocket while walking out of the alleyway.

Maddison was surprised when she saw him leaving. Was he not interested in her offer?

Azrael stopped after a few steps and turned around to give Maddison a look before speaking.

"Well? Aren't you coming for lunch?"

Maddison's eyes widened at the invitation before she nodded quickly and followed Azrael as they headed back to school.

[In the Cafeteria]

"What do you think will happen with the police? Do you think they'll be back?"

Azrael and Maddison were seated together at a table away from the other demigods. Their food in front of them was barely touched and Maddison had a scowl on her face as she looked around at all the people who were staring at them.

Maddison and Azrael were a very popular pair, so seeing them seated together like this was sure to draw a lot of attention from the public.

Azrael tapped his finger on the table to draw Maddison's attention back to him and he told her to answer his question.

"Do you think the police will be back?"

Maddison nodded as she started to tie her hair behind her with a rubber band.

"Yeah, I'm sure they will. You really don't know who Francis Colt is, do you?"

"Is he someone important?"

Maddison shook her head. She couldn't believe Azrael knew Francis for three years throughout middle school and just never bothered to look into his background. Francis Colt was a little more than important.

"Francis' father owns the Colt Mines in City A. The mines are where we get twenty percent of the Citrium ores that are used to make Quantum chips. All the technology today uses Quantum chips to run, so the Colts are one of the most influential families around. They practically run the whole of City A."

Azrael nodded calmly.

"I see. So his father isn't going to overlook something like this that easily. His son is dead and he'll want them to find out who did it. What about the other two? Are they important?"

Maddison shook her head while saying that they weren't. Francis' lackeys were just regular civilians who happened to form a friendship with him because they allowed him to walk over them. Azrael didn't have to worry about their families looking for revenge.

Maddison then took a fork of noodles and Azrael watched her blow on it a few times before she chewed and swallowed the hot food. The heat caused a bead of sweat to form on her neck and Azrael watched as it traveled down her fair skin and vanished into her shirt. Maddison looked up with a blush and scowled.

"You're staring."

Azrael hummed and turned away from her. Even though Azrael didn't have much interest in friendship and romance, he couldn't deny that Maddison was a very beautiful girl.

Azrael's interactions with the opposite sex were very limited since most girls either despised him for his celestial guardian or outright ran away from him out of fear. Sitting this close to a girl his age was a new experience.

"How do you know all this?"

Azrael asked this as he picked absentmindedly at his own lunch. He didn't have an appetite, so he was most likely not going to eat it. Maddison's eyes seemed to be stuck on his food even while she was eating her own, and Azrael decided that when she was done with her meal, he would offer her his own.

Maddison shook her head.

"I'm more surprised that you don't know about it. Are you living under a rock?"

"I don't really concern myself with politics. I knew Francis' father was rich, but I didn't know what his business was. I was too busy trying to survive to show any interest in things like that. Which makes me wonder why you're so aware of it. Are you some rich kid or something?"

Azrael didn't care for a lot of things outside of becoming stronger, so he didn't know what the other students in the school were like for the most part. He knew that the three Kings all came from very rich families and he also knew that most of the students in the school belonged to families that were rich enough to donate a lot of money to the school. It was because of these donations that the school was free for all demigods to attend. But Azrael didn't know more than that.

Once Azrael called Maddison a rich kid, she narrowed her eyes and stared down at her food with an air of anger surrounding her. Azrael raised a brow in surprise at her reaction.

"What? You don't like being called a rich kid?"

"It's not that. It's just that it doesn't matter. Yes, my family is rich. We own one of the largest communication companies in the world, but that doesn't mean I have any right to it. Because of my powers, I was disavowed from the inheritance. I'll be kicked out of the house once I'm eighteen and I'm not going to be getting anything from my father other than a small trust fund, so I'm basically poor."

Azrael scoffed. The girl thought she was poor because she wasn't getting anything other than a trustfund? If she wanted to know what it meant to be poor, then she should try living in a dorm with more than a hundred other kids all fighting for food and attention. Or maybe, she should try living on the street.

But Azrael didn't say any of that to her. Instead, he just stared at one of the tables where a group of girls were whispering to each other while pointing at them.

"Well then, I guess we're both rejects. Tell me what you think is going to happen with the police from now."

Maddison had already finished off her own lunch and Azrael pushed his plate forward for her to eat as well as he asked this question. Maddison looked up at him in mild surprise and Azrael shrugged at her while saying that he wasn't going to eat it and she still looked hungry. Maddison blushed in embarrassment before she thanked him and grabbed the food.
