Chapter 17 - Chapter Seventeen : After This

Adrian blinked his eyes repeatedly. His back felt so sore that it made his sleep a little uncomfortable. But who would have thought that sleeping like this would warm his body. Sleeping in someone's arms was indeed the most comfortable sleep he had ever felt. Unfortunately, the mattress he was on seemed unable to hold his big body.

Beside him, Indah was closing her eyes. One of the woman's hands was on his head. Who knows, maybe the woman had been awake and stroking his hair. The thought of that made Adrian almost scream like a teenager who had just fallen in love.

"Are you awake, big man?"

Adrian looked up. He saw the face that had been sleeping was now looking at him serenely.

Indah moved her hands again dancing on her husband's hair.

Adrian nodded slowly. If only his back didn't feel sore, he would be willing to sleep like this forever. In his heart he promised to do the same thing as this in their bed later.

"Get up. You're hindering the work of the nurses and nurses here."

Adrian's face immediately turned sour. Instead of loosening his embrace, he buried his face further into the crook of his wife's neck.

"I don't want to.. just let them work. I like being here." She grumbled spoiledly.

Indah was tickled. The warm breath from Adrian's breath made the fine hairs on her neck stand on end. Whether she realized it or not, this man seemed to be trying to tease her.

"Ian, let go. You're making me feel short of breath." She lied.

Adrian chuckled there. He knew his wife wasn't short of breath, but rather a little 'tempted' by him. He also didn't deny that being close to his wife made something inside him rise, or rather he felt the passion that exploded there. If only this wasn't a hospital, Adrian would have attacked his wife.

"Honey.. I don't mind doing our first night here." Adrian lifted his face. He stared at Indah's tense face with a sly grin. "I think it will be much more enjoyable when we do it in a narrow place."

BUGH!

Indah slapped Adrian's cheek. Unlike the angry slap, Indah did it with a blushing face. Adrian himself could only chuckle. He clearly knew his wife was embarrassed because he brought up their first night.

"Are you crazy? I was sick and now you're asking for it? Really scary."

Adrian supported his head with one hand. He used his free hand to push aside the strands of hair that covered his wife's face. His hazel eyes returned Indah's horrified gaze with warmth.

"Being this close to a woman... this is the first time for me. I know we never knew each other well, but with you I feel like nothing is wrong."

Indah was silent. Her instincts told her so. Unlike with other men, with Adrian she didn't feel awkward. Even when she first started a relationship with Rama she was quite tense. Honestly, she asked herself, why Adrian could easily break down her defenses. Logically, Adrian was not a romantic man who often peddled various words of love or gave her flowers and so on. But for some reason Indah felt that Adrian was supposed to be with her.

"I don't know myself, Ian." He replied hoarsely.

Not long after, the sound of the door opening was heard. There, Selly was hugging herself with her face bent. "How much longer do I have to wait for this newlywed couple to make out? You know Indah, I've been waiting for almost 3 hours but you didn't press the emergency button to call me," she blurted out.

Adrian frowned. He then looked at the watch wrapped around his wrist.

"Gosh..! How long have I been here?" he asked in surprise.

"Well.. more or less 5 hours you've been sleeping there and hampering my work, big man."

Adrian stared sharply at the woman wearing the nurse's uniform. How presumptuous that woman was, he thought.

Seeing her husband who was ready to reply to Selly's words, Indah immediately stroked her husband's strong arm.

"He's my friend, Ian."

Adrian turned his head to look at Indah. The anger he had been ready to throw evaporated after seeing Indah smiling softly at him. He knew the woman must be trying to calm him down.

"Is that it? I want to check your wife's blood pressure, Doctor Adrian." Selly said emphatically.

With great reluctance, Adrian moved away from his wife's bed. His hazel eyes watched carefully how the woman who looked the same age as his wife checked.

"Check properly. Don't miss anything." Adrian ordered when he saw his wife wince slightly when Selly stuck the needle into her hand.

Selly shot a murderous glare at the man. If only hospital ethics didn't prohibit her from acting rudely, Adrian would have charged.

"I know. Too talkative!" he grumbled in annoyance.

"You-.." Adrian was ready to step towards Selly with his sharp gaze. But not long after he heard laughter coming from the woman who was now lying on her bed. Indah laughed loudly when she saw her and Selly throwing harsh words at each other.

"What's wrong? Why are you laughing?" Selly asked fiercely.

Indah shook her head slowly. She really liked seeing the two of them arguing for some reason. For her, it was a very rare sight to see Adrian and Selly who had strong personalities being able to throw out that many sentences. Adrian, she thought the man wouldn't want to entertain Selly. In fact, her husband acted the opposite.

"You guys are very funny." Indah tried to hold back her laughter that was about to explode.

"Honey.."

"Okay, I'm out." Selly raised her hand like a prisoner caught by the police. Until they reached the door, the woman was still glaring fiercely at her best friend's husband. Just like Selly, Adrian narrowed his eyes, not liking to see Selly.

After Selly came out, Adrian walked closer to his wife. He again cast a worried look at the woman. Seeing her current condition, Indah could not be said to be fine. With her leg currently in a cast, it was impossible for the woman to walk normally for the next few days. This caused a feeling of regret in Adrian's heart. If only, last night he could keep his promise, Maybe Indah would be in their house right now, barefoot on the kitchen floor.

"Ian?" Indah's voice calling made Adrian refocus his gaze on his wife's jet black eyes. The woman's forehead frowned. Maybe Indah realized that she was currently daydreaming.

"What's wrong, Ian?"

Indah realized her husband's gaze turned sad. She saw Hazel's eyes implying a sense of regret. If she was not mistaken, maybe Adrian regretted seeing her condition like this. Maybe the man would feel troubled taking care of her who might experience temporary paralysis, considering she had a broken leg.

Adrian chose to sit on the chair on the right side of the bed occupied by his wife. Honestly, he preferred to lie back down there with his wife, but considering his wife was sick he didn't want to be a bad husband. It was because of Indah that she was hit by a disaster like this, she shouldn't feel pain again.

One of Adrian's hands reached for Indah's right hand which had a tube attached. He brought the tiny hand closer to his face and kissed it softly. For some time now, he liked to smell the scent of the woman's body. Maybe now he would write in his brain that this scent was his favorite.

"I'm sorry." Adrian said softly. The man's breath felt heavy in Indah's ears. There were many emotions that she could capture when her husband's deep voice flowed into her hearing.

"Adrian.." Indah was about to answer but Adrian had stopped her. The man hissed softly.

"I'm sorry, Indah. If only I could keep my promise, maybe you wouldn't end up like this." he said regretfully. Adrian knew the pain of losing someone close to him. He was very shaken when he lost his mother. His mother who was willing to die to protect her younger sibling, who in fact could not be saved either. Indah, yesterday's incident reminded him of that incident again. It felt like Adrian's whole world had collapsed when his father said that his wife had an accident. Who knows who could do that to his wife. But he swore to find out who that person was. He would make the life of the person who had harmed his wife suffer.

Seeing her husband's tense jaw, the fine hairs on Indah's body immediately stood on end. Even though he was angry, Adrian never showed that face in front of her. The man only enjoyed teasing her, but never yelled at her. Who knows what was on that man's mind. Right now, for Indah, Adrian looked different. That figure was like someone who would pounce on anyone in front of him.

"Adrian, I forgive you. I may be angry because you couldn't keep your promise, but everything has happened. It's no use being angry, it won't solve anything."

Adrian held Indah's hand even tighter. What kind of stupid woman would easily forgive a man who broke a promise like him. Maybe Indah had a low IQ to forgive him so easily. Adrian preferred Indah to beat him or slap him rather than give him a sincere smile. That made him look even more of a jerk.

"But you have to explain where you were last night." Indah's expression turned sullen. She did forgive her husband, but she had to listen to a logical reason why her husband chose to break the promise he made himself.

Adrian swallowed his saliva with difficulty. Should he tell her everything?

"I-I..."

"Morning everyone!" suddenly Adrian's mother appeared from behind the door. The middle-aged woman squealed happily when she saw her beloved daughter-in-law had woken up from her sleep. This morning she had deliberately woken up very early and cooked something for Indah. For her, her beloved daughter-in-law should not eat the bland hospital food.

"Mom!" Indah was no less happy than her mother-in-law. The woman's presence seemed to be a Moodbooster for her. A wide smile broke out when she saw her mother-in-law come with a food container in her hand. She had guessed it must be for her. Since last night she had been thinking about asking Adrian to buy her food outside.

"Hello.. Indah, Mom brought food for you. Aditama's daughter-in-law should not eat this bland hospital food after what her own husband did." Hani said as if teasing her son.

Adrian stared sharply at his mother. He knew the woman must be teasing him. From her squinty gaze alone, he could already guess that his mother might be a little angry with him. But on the one hand Adrian felt relieved because his mother's presence made everything easier. Indah would not ask anything about the reason why she did not come last night.

It was not that she wanted to lie, it was just that telling about Ana was not easy. And again she did not want her wife to misunderstand.

"Oh yes, mom has prepared something for you." Hani took something out of her black leather bag. Two tickets were already in her hand. With a meaningful smile, the woman showed them in front of her two children.

"What is that, Mom?" Adrian asked curiously.

"CHA! These are the tickets for you." she explained happily.

Indah's forehead wrinkled again. "For what, Mom?"

Hani pouted her lips. Of course she would not throw away her children. There was another idea that she had discussed with her husband last night. With these tickets in her hands, she would get something she had wanted for a long time. She did not want to delay it any longer.

"These are your honeymoon tickets."

"Oh.. Honeymoon." said Adrian who seemed still not aware. Likewise Indah, the woman was silent for a moment. But a second later her eyes widened, meeting the hazel eyes of her husband who was just as shocked as she was.

"WHAT!?"

"Go as two, and come home as three."
