Chapter 1 - Vampires do exist

"Vampires do exist" zayn whispered to himself, his eyes looking up to the dark sky. It was night time, the eerie feeling swimming in the dark was enough to get a kid running for his life but not zayn.

Coming out every night to the lake situated inside the woods, no one knew about this at least by his imagination. He went there only trying to ease and think about his obsession for mythical creatures and artifacts. His mom would wreck their neighborhood if she knew he was into this.

He breathed out sighing, wishing someone would understand him and not think of him as some growing teenager who knew nothing about life and was only obsessed about things that don't exist.

His brain would explode on a certain day. He knew that, if he didn't stop getting strange books from the city library. A library that was of no use as the books according to the librarians reluctantly staying there, said it in no use to any persons and would find themselves soon as ashes the wind would blow away into thin air.

He lifted the book he held to his face, it wasn't like the other ones he usually picked from the library, this has sharp iron edges with intricate designs of skulls and dragons on it and a skull with two obvious sharp fangs as the book cover. The skull on it made it look more menacing to take a look at, however it was so intriguing to zayn. The dark purple likeness of it was so brooding alongside the book cover.

He had dragged and pulled this one from a shelf down the library hall where he had never ventured into before. This was one of the many there, his heart told him to pick this out of them. The library was soon to be shut down and maybe turned to ashes also.

Sometimes he wondered why they complained about the library and still kept it even having librarians for it too. But as much as a curse it was to the owners it was a blessing to zayn.

He opened the book and the writings weren't normal writings but he understood it, finding it strangely fascinating. This was the first time he was seeing such writings, however the meaning of the words in the books was just like the same other words in the other books he's read.

Then what was this feeling he was feeling? The dried sticks which he had bypassed and knew how dried they were creaked. The lake stopped its flow and movement like a command was issued on it. The breeze stopped, rustling from the bushes was not a secret also.

He seized his breathing. He came out here because everywhere seemed too loud and noisy for him to read, not like he can't read inside the noise but this book needed his utmost attention.

Another rustling and creak of a dried stick breaking. The uncanny feeling clearly cannot be avoided. A wraithlike figure towered over the trees and the lake under the moonlight which he hadn't noticed but did now due to the shadow.

"Who is there?" He yelled, he wasn't scared. All these don't scare him. The day his father died right in front of him was not just the first day he knew something was going on under the shadows and his father knew of it and let it swallow him whole.

Everything about his family was not normal, not sure if his mother knew of this but his father always behaved so secretively and wanted his privacy all the time. His study was never open. Everything was suspicious.

"Who is there?" He stood up, not caring to dust his trousers and pulled out the torch he always had in his bag. It was most important though he wasn't scared of the dark but what lurks in the dark. "There is no need to hide anymore" he moved forward counting his steps not to trip and fall.

The wraithlike figure towered over him as he walked, growing larger until it faded like a wisp of a smoke. His heart pounded. As if on cue, the cool night breeze that had stopped sprang back to life with the rustling of the dried leaves and lake following suit.

He moved around the vicinity glaring his torch on the floor in search of maybe footprints or anything. A trail. He ran around, his breathing laboured as his torch moved around. The sound of breathing and footsteps in sync. This is not normal.

After searching for a trail that he never saw, he went back to his bag to get it and leave. Time was up. He pulled his phone to get time but it didn't switch on, taking it as maybe it was dead he sent it back into his pocket.

Strapping his bag he tried picking up the book but it didn't budge which left him strapping off the bag to the floor and torch. He sat on his haunches, tightly trying to pick up the book again however it flipped open instead.

Nothing. Nothing was in the book. It was blank, he flipped through and still nothing. He lifted his head and looked around his surroundings but it was normal like every other night except for that creepy feeling he knew something was up.

He lowered his head, his eyes closed, his dark blonde hair coming into his face. This madness was getting out of control. His eyes opened with a sharp force and he stood up. The book can stay for all it like but something stopped him.

A writing.

He knelt back down, his eyes following the scribbling on the blank middle page. He was in awe, the moonlight a witness to the event displaying under his scrutiny.

And it stopped, the scribbling stopped, revealing that same language but this time not this same meaning like the other books held, a more confused phrase.

"Everyone has a purpose including you, zayn. You just have to find and follow it but never forget to be careful and not get lost. And another thing again zayn; vampires do exist. You only need to meet them to confirm if they really do. Do you want to meet them?"

He stumbled back after reading the writings. Vampires do exist, he had known but no one believed him that he stopped talking. Mythical creatures were out there. Witches and demons existed. He rubbed his hand on his face. Everything buzzing around him.

Does he really want to meeet them?. Was he ready?.
