In some ways, it made you feel like an outsider all over again, missing so many developments in the lives of your friends in Ballyavon. But at the same time, you sensed that this drew you to each of them. They came to know each other so well, but they didn't know you, and there was something refreshing and intriguing about that for them. Not everybody always got on, with you or with each other, but everyone seemed to sense that all of you shared something hard to define, something that brought you together time after time. Only Áine always remained on the outside.
