Who would have thought that the man who chased her for years, proposed to her would have been so despicable. 7 years down the drain, Evangeline stood in the doorway of the hotel room that was charged to her bank card as she watched the man whom she loved so much and thought loved her just the same and her now ex best friend tangled in sheets in a flurry of groans and giggles. Slowly backing out of the room and it to the hallway, tears slowly slid down her face.
Life is nothing more than a cruel joke, all she could think about is the fact she was now completely alone in the world and none of it was by choice. The people around her saw it best to abandon her or betray her.
A sad laugh bubbles from her chest when she walks onto the sidewalk in front of the hotel. She stood there staring at the pavement for what felt like eternity and was only brought back to reality when someone bumped into her.
Why am I just standing here? This isn't the first time I've been abandoned and it won't be the last.
With that thought she started walking to the nearest pawn shop to sell her engagement ring. After selling the ring and getting quite a lump sum of money she went back to his apartment with the intention of removing every trace of her self from it. Anything that proved she was ever living there was taken and placed into a storage unit.
I guess this is where I start all over from. Evangeline thought to herself as she stood outside the now closed storage unit.
I need to transfer my contacts then change my number but that can wait until tomorrow, what I need to do now is find a place to stay permanently.
And so began the hunt for an apartment.
Some were either located in a sketchy area or were way too expensive for just one person. By the end of the day, she was still homeless so she decided to pay for a night stay at a cheap motel.
Laying on the bed her mind started racing, traumatic memories from her childhood coupled with today's betrayal was driving her crazy. She grabbed her purse and went to the closest bar for a drink. That was 2 hours ago and she was just a little buzzed. This was the first time since she began working that she hated her alcohol tolerance.
All she wanted to do was numb herself, to stop feeling the ache in her chest
The bartender that served her stood there watching her in both concern and confusion. One minute she was crying or sniffling then the next she would be laughing. He only left when another customer waved him over.
With the bartender's watchful eyes gone, a predator laying in wait, finally pounced.
"May I accompany you, pretty lady?" echoes a grating voice
