Chapter 39 - Chapter 39

Aurora James - POV

"Do you want my help in something?" I asked him when he shook his head as he fished out a wooden box from his pocket and placed it on the desk. "What is this?" I asked him when he pushed it towards me.

"Why don't you see it for yourself." Levi encouraged, and I nodded my head as I opened it. There was a silver key inside, and from the looks of it, this must be a house key. I raised an eyebrow at him, waiting for him to explain. "Well, there has been a little issue." he began as he looked back at the closed door and moved closer to my desk. "Alpha Lopez was getting a little suspicious."

"So?"

"He had called me to his office this morning, and when I went there, he asked me why we were still staying apart. So I came up with the first lie and told him that there were no houses left for us to rent."

"What does this key have to do with that?"

"He said that mates shouldn't be staying apart, so he gave me the key to one of his cabins in this pack. He said that we could stay over there till he finds a house for us in the main pack. I couldn't say anything back there, Aurora. So I just accepted it and came here." he finished while I felt the dread seep within me.

"Does Zander know about this arrangement?" I asked him when he shrugged his shoulder.

"I don't know. But I guess we might have to move to this cabin now." Levi said with a nervous look on his face. I know we are taking this too far, but right now, I need to play along so that Alpha Lopez doesn't suspect anything.

"This might make Zander furious," Lily said, but I ignored her comment. From his behavior today, I have already figured out that he does care for us, so I just need to stay a safe distance away from him to think whether I need to fight to keep this relationship alive or end this.

I know I promised Mr. Perez that I would try my best, but there is no use if I am the only one who puts an effort into keeping this relationship. "Have you moved your things there?" I asked him, and he nodded his head.

"I came here to inform you and help you move your things," he told me, and I nodded my head as I looked at the clock on my desk. There was still half an hour left till I clock out, but right now, I did not care.

I am taking a break.

I was about to grab my handbag and leave when the landline rang. "Hello, Aurora James speaking."

"Are you done with your work, Miss. James?" it was Zander.

"Yes, Beta Perez. But there are three more files that I need to review."

"You can get that done tomorrow. Please leave this floor," he said, and before I could ask him the reason, he kept the phone.

"What happened?" Levi mouthed as I kept the receiver back in its place.

"He asked me to leave," I told him.

"I think we should leave then," Levi said as I grabbed my handbag, and after turning off all the lights, I walked out of the office. As we passed by Beta Perez's office, I saw his door was left slightly ajar, and Alpha Lopez was inside.

As we reached the staircase, we began walking upstairs. "What is Alpha Lopez doing here?"

"He is here to speak about the warrior's death. This is the second attack on our pack, and this has never happened before." Levi explained as we reached my room, and I used my key to open my door.

"What do you mean by that?" I asked him as I walked into my closet.

"No one has ever dared to step foot inside this pack without permission, Aurora. This rogue was daring enough to kill two of our pack members, and there was absolutely no connection between the two. That is what is puzzling right now." Levi said as I walked out of the closet with my suitcase and began arranging my clothes inside.

We didn't speak about that anymore as Levi helped me pack my things. It was tiring to get everything arranged in boxes again, but I was able to pack all my belongings within three hours, and Levi and a few of the warriors helped me move my things.

"Is this the last box, Miss. James?" one of the warriors asked me as he placed it on the porch.

"Yes, thank you so much for your help." I asserted when a smile formed on his face.

"No problem. We will leave now," they said as they walked away. I looked around my new home when a smile formed on my face. This cabin was quite far from the pack house, and all the other pack facilities that this pack offers. Located at the edge of the forest, it provided a sense of tranquility that I missed when I was staying back in the pack house.

Levi fished out the key from his pocket and opened the door, he walked inside while I followed right behind him. It was not a huge place like Beta Perez's house, but it looked cozy and homely. The moment I walked inside, there was a living room with a sofa that had a bay window next to it, and as I walked down the hallway, I saw two doors on either side and at the end of the hallway was the kitchen that had a dining table with four chairs.

"I know it's not a big place. But…"

"It's beautiful, Levi. And don't worry about a thing. I like it." I told him when I saw a relieved look appear on his face.

"Let me get all your boxes inside," he said as he walked away, leaving me alone in the kitchen. There was a back door in the kitchen, and I walked towards it, I saw that it opened into the forest.
