Chereads / Beta Zander Perez / Chapter 41 - Chapter 41

Chapter 41 - Chapter 41

Aurora James - POV

My wolf wanted me to sneak into Zander's house and see if he had hidden the letter there, and this made the apprehension bubble within me. Zander may have sounded dejected right now, but if he caught me sneaking into his house, I knew he would not go easy on me.

"This is the only chance for you to go and see what was in that letter, Aurora. I have a feeling that letter might have been addressed to us." Lily exclaimed. And if it was some other day, I would not have cared much about what she said, but I could still feel that rogue's eyes on me.

"Fine," I gave in, and I pushed away my half-eaten food and got up from my place, when I was about to head towards my room, I heard the front door open, and Levi walked inside in a hurry.

"Hey, Aurora. Are you going to sleep?" he casually asked me when I narrowed my eyes at him.

"Where is my room, Levi?" I asked him when I saw the smile fade from his face as a nervous look overtook his expression.

"I wanted to tell this earlier, but I didn't get the perfect time to explain," he mumbled as he scratched the back of his neck.

"You know we can't sleep in the same room, right?" I asked him, my voice rising a little. I felt the anger bubble within me as I closed my eyes and took deep breaths to calm myself.

"No one would find out." Levi asserted when I glared at him.

"If Zander finds out about our sleeping arrangement, he will go ape shit on us, and I don't think you would live to tell the tale, Levi."

"I know. I told Alpha Lopez that we might need a cabin with two rooms, but he insisted that we share a room. Something about strengthening your mate bond," he mumbled as I shook my head.

"How are we going to sleep now?" I asked him with a raised eyebrow.

"Don't worry, I will take the couch, and you can take the bed," Levi suggested. That sounded like a good idea, but I felt bad for making him sleep on the couch.

"I can't let you sleep on the couch every day, Levi. We can alternate. You sleep on the couch today, and I will take the couch tomorrow." I said, but before he could protest, I placed my finger on his lips, shutting him up. "I don't want to hear any excuses," I told him, and he finally nodded his head.

Knock knock.

We were broken out from our trance when I immediately stepped back, and Levi turned around. Adrian was standing near the doorway with a nervous look on his face. "You know you should keep this door closed," he said when a blush crept up my cheeks.

"Nothing was happening between us," I told him when Levi walked towards the front door.

"Please come inside, Gamma Acosta." He said as he opened the door wider.

"That's all right, Levi. I have to get back to the pack house. I came to inform you that Beta Perez wants you to go and visit Carmen's previous pack. You will have to collect everything about him." Adrian informed, and Levi nodded his head.

"I will go in the morning," Levi said when a nervous look crossed Adrian's face.

"Well, Beta Perez wants you to leave right now. We don't know when that rogue would strike again. So we need to first figure out what happened between Carmen and that rogue." Adrian explained when Levi briefly looked at me before he nodded his head.

"I will head out in a few hours," Levi said, and Adrian nodded his head before he walked out of there. Levi closed the door behind him as he turned around to face me. "I am sorry, Aurora. I know I shouldn't be leaving you alone in here on our first day…"

I walked towards him and took his hands in mine. "The pack's safety is more important right now. I will be fine, Levi. You can go." I reassured him when a conflicting look crossed his face.

"Are you sure?" he asked me, and I nodded my head. "I will see you soon then," he said, and I nodded my head before he placed a kiss on my cheek and walked out of the cabin. Once he disappeared into the forest, I locked the front door and made my way to the bedroom.

Sleep was the last thing on my mind as I stared out into the dark forest. Zander was still out in the forest while Lily's idea circulated in my mind. I don't think Zander would go back home anytime soon. I got up from the bed, quickly put on my sneakers, and walked out of the cabin.

It was quite cold outside, and I felt goosebumps form on my legs and hands. I should have changed my clothes, but I know that there is no point in wasting time. I hurriedly walked towards Zander's house. As I got closer to his house, I saw the porch light was turned on, and his front door was left slightly ajar.

"He hasn't come back home yet," Lily said as I walked towards his house. I made sure that no one was around as I sneaked into his house. As I closed the front door, my senses were immediately filled with his scent as I felt my racing heart calm down while my skin tingled in want.

I walked into the house and made my way up the stairs. As I passed by his room, I felt this urge to walk inside, and without a second thought, I did. A frown appeared on my face when I realized that the bed had not been made for days and the room smelt of our scents intervened.

If he hated me to the core, why didn't he get this room cleaned the moment I walked out of there the other day?
